If vw's were a bit lighter, they'd be so much better!! I own a 2000/MKIV Golf GLS 1.8t Manual, and am working on getting a ko4 and then am going to go with the arp tune and see how it is. After I get another car though, I'm planning on building the motor with a stroker kit, and then will see how light I can get it. I'm hoping I can get it down to around 2400pnds... IDK though

do you notice an increase in power? like simialr to a turbo back exaust or even more due to less restriction?
As you can see at the beginning of the vid, the stock catback is still in place. I figured instead of spending over a grand on a full 3 inch exhaust, I'd be better off spending well less than that on a custom 3" DP only, with a QTP electronic cutout (before the stock cat). So I have the best of both worlds this way.. When closed its completely silent like any other car - no drone - and when I want to get into the gas I just flip the switch and run straight pipe. The power difference between closed and open is definitely noticeable. It spools faster, and has more in the top end.
As I've never have a 3" turboback on the car, I can't say what the difference is between it and an open 3" DP... but from my research, a 3" turboback will easily flow more than enough air than a chipped k03s or this K04 could ever throw at it. You wont be restricted on the exhaust side at all. The cutout was a personal call since I didn't want to have to listen to drone 24/7

hope someone can help with this prob iv got. i have a mk4 golf gti 1.8t with agu engine and have bought a ko4 turbo from a seat cupra R. will i have to change the down pipe and or manifold to get it on the car. someone please help

How did you get the k04 to fit? does it just bolt right on?
It is a direct bolt on, it will fit right in the place of the stock turbo, its a bit tricky, but it goes. + While you're in there, might as well do the exhaust mani too!
what other turbo can you put on the gli 1.8t I want to upgrade but the k04 is to expensive
I got a cx racing k04 for 300$ and it has been fine
Don't bother with a k04. They only offer a 10-15 hp gain over the k03s, so if you want actual gains save up for a garret gt28rs.

Where did you get the open down pipe?
Its a custom 3" downpipe to the stock catback. But, between the turbo and the catalytic converter I have a 3" electronic cutout. When I flick the switch, its closed and the car is near silent - since the exhaust is forced out the stock catback. When I want to get into the gas, I open it = no backpressure/more power + excessive noise.

Sounds exactly like my 1.8t Passat wagon when she decided to delete the cats and everything else that was attached to it on her own. 😂😂 in other words, the exhaust manifold basically rusted off.

Forgive my ignorance. What is an open downpipe cutout exactly? Is it different from a downpipe or just a mod to a downpipe?
It's essentially a Y pipe off the turbo / downpipe. One side of the Y is completely open a short distance away from the turbo. The other side of the Y goes through the stock exhaust system

K04-001 it does plug and play?
Yes, bolts right up in the stock location, no modification needed - no need for aftermarket exhaust manifold either. I just did it cause I was in there.
***** According to APR, their K04 test cars dynoed 245hp/275lb-ft on 93 octane gas, with ONLY a 3" turboback exhaust.
I've done a lot more bolt-ons than they test dynoed with. My car has never seen a dyno. As far as hp, it all depends how far you're willing to go, but I'd say if you're looking for more than 250hp, go with a bigger turbo.
***** I didn't change just the turbo, I did more than that. The complete mod list as far as horsepower goes is listed above, in the video description.
+ Yes it will work on an automatic Jetta. But since I don't own an automatic, I haven't researched the reliability limits of the stock automatic transmission. I'd advise you to do that before adding more power.

I ran open downpipe on my Audi 1.8t and that made it so slow 😂😂😂😂 so I had to put my pipes back on, downpiping only for sound, I wanna go fast 😂😂😂😂😂 so I’mma just get this magnaflow pipe on instead 😂
