@OscarLangleySoryu maybe he meant sniffed it. In all seriousness sadly it's stated the production of the movie was so stressful it got the actor of Dorthy addicted to drugs. The actor of the witch was a pre-school teacher before ( or something. She had experience in education) which was how she got placed onto the show. Sadly her presence to her dismay did more harm then good. Which is cruel irony when you go back and watch the episode now since by today's standards it's below average of what scary things kids get into ( kids are into five nights at Freddie's lol).

It would be one thing if Snuffy were an elephant and only Bigbird could see him, but Snuffy is a wooly mammoth, and mammoths have been extinct for ages. This is true, kind of. He was real to Big Bird. Perceived as imaginary to everyone else. Any time Big Bird would try to convince the adults on the show that Snuffy was real they wouldn't believe him. Over time the show runners realized having adults not believe kids (Big Bird being the stand in for children) when they were telling the truth wasn't a good message to be sending to their audience.
It is sad that they removed it. Then reviewing it to be better. It shows the truth. Could help the child understand. In turn as the child becomes adults make it more softer on their children.
