    I know I made three comments already but in defense of Barbossa joining the british navy is actually historically accurate. The british navy pulled a Salazar and wiped out most of the pirates and some pirates were welcomed into their crew. They joined willingly for their own survival. So Barbossa being welcomed despite being a pirate is no mistake.

    Ehh this one wasn't SO bad. Doesnt have the charm at worlds end had but the fifth one? THAT is the one that deserves to be shat on. I cant bare how they changed the lore of the compass. Jack got it from calypso but in that one it was given to him from his dying captain. That scene with young jack was ok, shows how clever and bad ass he can be. I just wish they didnt change the compass. It just completely ignores the other movies. At least On Stranger Tides is bareable to an extent and had some entertainment. The fifth one is just cringe cause of every consistency got thrown away. Also unlikable characters. Mainly Barbosa's daughter. I can't believe the words coming out of me Mouth but Elizabeth was better than her and she's a bit of a Mary Sue and even then she's tolerable.

    On barbossa sailing for the British;
    (historical)
    In 1717 King George the first declared the Acts of Grace, which allowed pirates to get pardonned for their crimes and follow a straight path (or sail as privateers under flag) in an attempt to diminish the amount of pirates on sea.
    Maybe a similar thing happened in the POTC universe (even though the king in the movie is King George the 2nd), and Barbossa could've seen this as an opportunity to get back at Blackbeard. Just speculation tho
    Also there's a certain irony in P4 having a good Jack but terrible script and co-stars while 5 has a decent script and co-stars but a terrible Jack

    I think it would have been better if Blackbeard himself was a slowly rotting zombie who barely survived Okracoke using black magic, and wants to drink the waters of the fountain to restore his vitality and live forever. An easy change and a much better and more obvious motivation than the whole Barbossa prophecy thing. And yes, I love the idea of the film opening with Barbossa losing the pearl to Blackbeard in a terrifying attack by night. But you know what would make it even better? If Blackbeard just straight up used the Pearl as his own ship instead of putting it in a bottle, since it's a much sleeker vessel than the film's lumbering portrayal of the Queen Anne's Revenge.

    The Spaniards are chasing the fountain so they could destroy it for religious reasons.
    But, I miss the original crew members like Pintel and Rageti. Seriously, where are they after at worlds end? I liked Angelica and the mermaids and the escapes Jack Sparrow makes. But that's pretty much it. Oh, and Hans Zimmer is always good

    I do think it’s interesting that even though he “gave up”, Jack still had a vested interest in the Fountain. But the more he discovered about the way it gives life, courtesy of Angelica, Jack’s principles start seeping in because it requires someone else to provide those extra years of life.

  • @Cynic-Retired
    @Cynic-Retired Před rokem +10

    The first three pirate movies NEVER relied on actuall historical pirates it instead used them as inspiration for their own fictional ones. Like speaking of blackbeard, there is a pirate in curse of the black pearl who's clearly based of blackbeard his called Jacoby and is the one with the bombs and the SMOKING BEARD! just like Blackbeard would've. Elizabeth Swann is also probably inspired by someone like Anne Bonny and Mary Read and Barbossa's names is taken from Barbarossa ''redbeard''.
    Pintel and Ragetti mention Morgan and Bartholomew as the writters of the Pirate Code as a nice little reference. But no HISTORICAL Pirate ever showed up in the trilogy and I would think that if Blackbeard did exist in this universe he would probably be part of the Brethren Court. I get the sense that the historical pirates were almost legends to our fictional characters like their time has long passed. Historically inaccurate but this entire Universe is clearly supposed to be FICTIONAL!

    It is very reasonable for the Spanish to destroy the pagan fountain for multiple layers of reasons: 1. They are devout Catholics of the classic Iberian fanatism, and as openly stated, this fountain might grant something for an inhuman price that faith grants by lifing virtueously. 2. In the same spiritual reasoning, there is Command I: "Thou shall not have other Gods next to me". 3. Traditionally, all non-Monotheistic religion but even Islam were taken for devil-worshipping paganism, especially the religions of Asia and the New World. 4. This is even more interesting: IF the "pagan waters" would work, this prooved the existance of other deities next to the abrahamitic Lord God. The whole fundament of the (Catholic) christendom would collapse by an instant, being prooven wrong or at least not fully monopolic. This would destabilize Europe as a whole, but especially shatter the whole ideology the Spanish built their empire on. There, it must be destroyed.

    • @John-fk2ky
      @John-fk2ky Před 5 měsíci

      Wrong on the last bit. That would just indicate other supernatural sources that, considering how the fountain works, could easily be filed under "demonic", same as any other pagan deity at the time. What it would do is make an interesting wreck of philosophies trying to secularize things.

    The easiest fix for this film would be Jack wants the fountain because he still wants immortality even though Will got it in the prior film, and since it's the only way left for other national powers to be able to challenge Will at all over the sea also seek the fountain as a means to make their own immortal military. Blackbeard could also be wanting immortality as a parallel to Jack's situation in the second film but demonstrating a completely different approach to it would help a lot.

If they had the biggest budget why did the they decided to do such a smaller film compared to the first 3 entries instead of making it bigger and better than AT LEAST the first 2???

  • @gingerpotter21
    @gingerpotter21 Před 8 měsíci +1

    What disappoints me in this film is that in the trilogy before the world building was amazing you really felt the world was lived in but in this one and the one after you feel like that has been drasticaly toned down and they barely connect to what came before, jack didnt seem to have a goal in this movies and literally got kidnapped and forced to be in the narrative, blackbeards motivations are bizarre he will be killed by a one legged man so he needs the fountain to avoid that ? Im assuming if youre younger youre not gonna be immune to being stabbed by a one legged man or by any man with a sword for that matter.
    And it just feels like blackbeard came out of nowhere, like where was he in the 3rd movie since he is this big pirate that all pirates fear ? If he was this big player i would assume he wouldve played a role in the big battle that decided the fate of all pirates in the 3rd movie.
    They couldve made a cool connection to davey jones to explain that absence,
    What if blackbeard was a big pirate years ago that commanded the seas with everyone fearing him for years and his big army of pirates owing all of that to a deal he made with davey jones just like jack did for his black pearl, but unlike jack when it was time to pay up blackbeard runs away to land giving up his pirating ways forever afraid of davey jones and never going back to the sea so he wont face him, showing the parallels between him and jack where one faced there fear and defeated the devil while the other ran away like a coward and like what jack wouldve become if he did succumb to his own fears like he almost did.
    Fast forward a few decades later a year after davey jones is dead and theres a vacuum in power that needs to be filled, with blackbeards only reason thats keeping him away from the sea having died he can finaly come back and rebuild his army that he once had to take over the seas again, but after decades of waiting the man has become to old and needs to recover the years that he has lost and thats why he goes for the fountain of youth. You can split this story into 2 movies even with the first ending with blackbeard recovering his youth and the second one having him want to be the pirate king, since before when there was no king he needed the court to vote him in which wouldve never happened but now that there is a king they can add a rule in the narrative that a new king can be crowned after killing the old one paving the way for elizabeth to reenter the narrative and will to come back to protect his wife in the 5th movie and the bretheren court returning not wanting to serve under a tyranical rule of horrors under blackbeard like the years prior where he ruled the seas, with the climax of the 5th movie being between blackbeards rebuilt army vs the bretheren court and all their army under king elizabeth all while jack is jumping around from side to side manipulating the whole situation so he can get back his black pearl as well as come to terms with the immortality that he always was looking for

    Omg... i dont know but maybe you had to pay attention at history classes maty!
    The feude between England and Spain was real in that time, Katholics against Protestants.
    Actually Pirate 4 is pretty good as a film, manny refferances to real life events, Ponce de Leon for example was a real figure who was looking for the fountain of youth in real life, and thought it to be in now days Florida.
    Also if u watch the film closley you see that Jack actual has been there beffore, only not inside where the fountain was, because he did not know the procedure with the chalisses.
    And he was allone at the end of At World End. So this might be the reasson why he did not care about it, he just could'nd done it allone.

    POTC 4 is such a uniquely odd movie. The other POTC films were mostly original stories that just borrowed a few elements from a storyless theme park ride, but this one was an adaptation of a novel that had nothing to do with the franchise. I can’t think of a single other film like that. Jack and Barbossa probably don’t mesh well with the rest of POTC 4’s story because their characters were actually just shoehorned into it.

    Yeah I only wants Barbossa be with Jack. Barbossa and Jack moments are clearly the best moments in the entire franchise. They are so funny. Everytime I see scenes with Barbossa and Jack I always laugh and they are so funny. Coz the truth is Barbossa do care about Jack. Its like Spongebob is for Squidward that even Spongebob is annoying and Squidward gets always angry he do steps up for him and care for him and Barbossa does sometimes even both hates each others when they work together, when they get to finally talk in privacy they do get calm and they just looks total buddies. The reason Barbossa mutinied Jack in the first movie was because Jack was very young to be a captain and Barbossa felt he would be a better captain and just wanted to save Jack being idk backstab by his crew that surely hated him. Its also thx to Jack Sparrow that Barbossa became a commander. It was Jack who lead Barbossa into a better path. He got entire fleets and lot of ships by his command and he live in a damn luxury life and all that came thx to Jack and like Jack promised, Barbossa got a really nice hat. :D Although I hated his commodore hat coz the hat the little guy find the cool looking hat to Barbossa inside Black Beard's room. I wish he had kept it on.
