- I am going to show you the easiest and most consistent method I've found over the years for hitting drops, there are many ways to do drops but this is easiest way to learn in my opinion. In this video I coach my girlfriend through how to drop and she works up to the biggest drop she's ever done!

One thing to remember is that there are a ton of different riding styles and variable when it comes to drops, this is the method that has worked best for me and seemed to really click with April but there really isn't a definite one sized fits all approach to every drop. Sometimes the trail forces you to hit it with very little speed and in that case you will need to do more of a "manual" or "huck" off of the end but those are more advanced moves in my opinion. This method works best for drops with a little bit of speed and nice flat or slightly downward takeoff. Hope you guys enjoy! Let me know if you have any questions at all!
I like drops
your drop video is the best for beginners that i've seen.. thanks so much
You might want to "pin" this comment as that was my first question.
Also, any tips for gauging speed without some to tow you in?
Great video!
Question, have you created a video on how to turn corners without really slowing down?
Great explanation! Subscribed!🤙
This honestly was the best explanation on dropping I have ever seen. I started mountain biking at 60 years old and now at 64 I am loving doing drops. I have not graduated to anything like the big one yet but after watching this I can see that it is possible. I have learned a ton from my 12 year old grandson but this video says it all. Thanks for making a ol' Granny's day!
That is so cool! Thank you for the nice comment Brenda :)
Am a spritely 52 and about to buy my first bike - wonderful video and inspiring comment brenda.
i am turning 29 this year and i wondered if i am allready to old to start mountainbiking... well thanks for the motivation lol
I'm 60 and started a year ago. Thanks for the inspiration.
@Vokunos I started snowboarding at 41, I'm 44 and about to pull the trigger on a mtb so I'm not bored in the summer. I am a little concerned my dumb ass is going to send it like I did when I was a teenager and end up with something fractured and a long heal time due to age. But what other options are there? Stay home and read a book? Nah
I love GMBN, but when it's all pro's doing it, they already have their technique down perfect.
I'd always been trying to bunny hop off drops as well, so having your girlfriend doing it "wrong" at the start makes it so much more relatable to me so I can follow along with her progression
Next video...How to do drops onto flats.
Thats awesome! Thanks Jonathan, its been really fun and we promise to keep them coming :)
I drop flats the same way with drops that has transitions
EX-ACT-LYY! I've watched Gmbn's tutorials on repeat, I tried to go over each and every word to find where I'm going wrong, or is it just me who is doing a unusual mistake that no one has ever? But then I came across these "champions" and BAM! Learned to Wheelie, Drop, Bunny hop..all of it in within a month... Crazy! isn't it? I've been practising Gmbn's way for over a year now and I still couldn't wheelie at all, I tried every other tutorial out there, But you know what? They all said the exact same thing! But then I thought I should enroll for some personal coaching and that's when I met you, you saved me a lot of money!Thank you!, For just existing... Love you guys!
Next time I gotta learn something "Kyle and April"is going in CZcams's search bar for sure! ♥️✌️👊
@@Nishit.C But why would you need to search for them with the youtube search bar when you're subscribed to them now? Or at least should be subscribed.
@@shawnpitman876 Sometimes when I want a specific tutorial CZcams won't slap me with that exact video I gotta search for it...
Feels so good seeing someone treating his partner with that amount of respect and positive energy. I hope you guys are like that off camera as well. Best wishes for the two of you!
Of course he is. You can hear it in dudes voice, he's a gentle person.
👍
*girlfriend.
@@SavageAuditsyeah, that’s a partner
Dude, you are a proper teacher. Absolutely brilliant. I've trained people in motorcycle riding, bicycles, software, photography. Absolutely the correct approach. don't teach if you aren't willing to give them the space and technique to learn at their comfort level. Fantastic to watch.
Thank you so much Adam!!!
Very well articulated and demonstrated. Probably the best vid on this topic Ive watched yet. Really want to try.
Thanks! I really appreciate that! It was a lot of work to edit it all together in a way that told the story of the technique, there are so many nuisances and nothing substitutes for a 1 on 1 lesson but i am hoping these can be valuable for you guys!
Agreed 👍🏼🤙🏼
Same feeling here. Great tutorial!
Best tutorial i saw :D
Best video I’ve seen so far for these kind of drops ... 👍
I mean. You're like "that was sick", "so proud of you".
That's some true motivation right here. You seem like a really good person ! She's very positive and you're very kind and motivating, that's great to see !
Thanks, i think that positive reinforcement is so key to getting people to fall in love with new hobbys. When you are constantly achieving new goals no matter how big or small it becomes addicting :)
I completely agree with this comment.
Yes, these two are a lot of fun to watch. And learn from! Cute couple.
agree!!
Lmao...
Yeah, almost like a teacher huh.
I'm watching this at 10pm and I'm having a hard time not to grab my camera tripod, a portable lamp and my bike and going out to my local trails right now to practice this!
Amazing teaching, and congrats April!
I'm an ex triathlete and 30+ years roadie and getting my feet wet in MTB. Really enjoy witnessing the learning process. Almost cheered when April nailed the big drop smoothly!
Thats so awesome! Thanks a ton Paul!
As a woman mtb-er, and an OLD one at that, I really appreciate seeing another woman do things that I would like to learn. I will not being doing those big ones, but I want to do small ones, and this really helped. Thanks!
Thats so cool :) thanks for being a part of our youtube family!
This is awesome to see! Congrats all three of you. Made my day.
Elaine -- I have been enjoying these... I feel Kyle is very respectful to April... but as a male (also OLD one) I wonder if that is true----- is it?
@@titustiger27 IMHO he's somewhat patronizing "I'm proud of you" and she often thanks him. Reversing roles spotlights these things ie: imagine she is teaching him and makes his comments to him.
@@SirCamsmorethanalot I can't say, but I think if she taught him to surf, there is a chance she would do that..
Hey man watched this video and went to my local trail 3 hours after. I have been looking at these two rock drops for over two years. I felt confidant from your video I took my go at both of them and crushed them man. thank you so much for the tips and beautiful description on body position. you rock man.
Dude - Give her a hug every once in a while. That was a major accomplishment.
Watched a few of your how to videos lately. Love the straightforward approach and the real time results you see with April doing it. Very confidence inspiring
I may have yelled "Yes" very loud when she made the big drop. She's awesome.
Haha i was soooo stoked for her! She was smiling so hard haha
Same
I clapped with joy lol. Kyle is a good teacher.
same
So did I.
And I also almost yelled when she went off the big jump. I would be too scared; she crushed it!!!
I love your videos! You have a great way of explaining things. You are so kind and caring to your girlfriend and your viewers. I hope you get through your health issues quickly and get back to making videos. You have a lot people who are following you and we are listening. Stay strong!
Great job April. Your position on the final drop looked absolutely perfect. I'm sure your example will help many people. Well done. Great coaching Kyle and good editing and flow of video. You guys gained a subscriber. Happy trails.
Thanks so much James! 😊
Oh man! My heart was racing the first time April hit that big drop! Amazing. I have probably done something between the small and medium but I always try to bunny hop - old habit. Thanks for the info. You guys are great teachers!
Haha thank you! Yeah i was so nervous for her! Thanks for watching!
Wait this is a drone channel
@@user-dx2kj3oj5r Yeah - but I love mountain biking too! Been doing it since 1989.
Started in 1982! No one knew what a mountain bike was back then. Costs me $950. Still have that same bike, pretty old school now but still good for the street.
@@bretev damn yall old... Im still 14 lol. I love mtb too.
Brilliant. Been riding 25 years and never hit anything that big. May try somthign a bit bigger, when hospitals freed up!
That would take few months
😂
I'm getting into MTB and your tutorials a FANTASTIC! You and April are very thorough and give great examples of HOW NOT TO and HOW TO. Keep them coming!
Thanks Kyle and Thanks April! Got into MTB this spring. This video helped me progress so much with my jumping. Did my first jumps last week and today I sent one that’s been looking at me for months. You two are a big part of the success! Thanks!
Great to hear! Thanks so much for watching :)
i’ve watched so many of these videos and this is the ONLY one that actually helped me... thank you!!
50yo, been riding MTB since the mid 90’s and I honestly learned a lot from this.
Thats so cool to hear!
I've been riding since the mid 70's and still have all the bad habits mentioned... (sore arm landings etc.) Never too old to learn as my cruddy video's show....
Same as I'm 51
@@nickgibbens3082 Same same here.
Me too man, I am 55 and been MTBing since off and on since '87, KW is a good teacher.
Since starting mountain biking this year(2021) I have watched your videos many times, great job, super helpful. Hope you recover fully Kyle.
You two are the best instructors ever! Thank you for breaking things down into simple terms.
Anybody else get really proud when she did the big drop. Well done
Thanks :)
Nope.
I don't even know her, why would I be proud of her?
@@dangerous8333 Just dont comment then
April is brave, not to much fear for a beginner, well put together
thank you!

Cameron Peterson just because someone is nice it doesn’t mean they are a simp
She's braver than 99% of the guys I ride with. And they are all in there 20s & 30s.
Creepy.... Real creepy...
Hey guys, just wanted to say that I recently discovered your channel and have binged all the tutorials as I prepare for my first enduro race and just need to soak up all the knowledge and inspiration I can. You two seem like a humble and easy going couple, and Kyle is really great at breaking down into steps that seem logic and are easy to follow. Can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Thank you Ingrid!
I love this video! The dos and don'ts are really helpful and your girlfriend makes it more relatable. She's awesome!
Loving the content Kyle! Found you through paul the punter/your manual vid super helpful. Loving the humility man subbed
Awesome, thank you! I really appreciate that! I just try to have fun with it!
First of all, great coaching and awesome job April! I'm a beginner rider and I found this video very helpful because of how you break down the process and techniques. Can't wait to try it out this weekend. 🤙
Thx for the video. Nice to see things from the start of the learning curve, the analysis, ways to improve, and description of the techniques. Needed. Great to see the transformation as April learns to do drops. Well done!
As a woman mountain biker, I really appreciate videos of women learning skills. They are always much more helpful for me than watching men who have already mastered a skill. You do a great job breaking it down into basic and important key pieces. Thank you, Kyle, and please continue to make videos with April!!
Glad to help! I am so glad you liked it :)
I agree. They do a great job in their videos.
Great stuff, Kyle! Your way of explaining how to drop and manual makes it so much easier to understand the technique. And it's very helpful showing the most common errors and how to fix them.
Please make more of those!
Happy to help! thanks for the comment!
Really enjoy your videos. Brings a smile to my face and that goes hand in hand with the new found knowledge. Keep it up!
I've seen a lot of tutorials around but yours is the easiest to understand and lets the viewers know the wrong techniques. Keep up with the quality content.
I came across this while learning how to change/adjust my brake pads. I NEVER thought I could do drops because even doing the little drops made me feel like I was about to die. Now I know what I was doing wrong and can't wait to get out and try the right way. Thanks for making this video!
Thanks for watching :)
Best drop “how to” I’ve seen yet. Subscribed.
Thats awesome! Thank you!
I stumbled across you guys a few months ago. You are fantastic! Thanks to April for being willing to put it all out there. Thanks Kyle for being so patient! If I were that relaxed maybe my wife would still be biking with me. I’ve learned more patience as I’ve gotten older. You are lucky to have each other.
Thank you Kurt! It is a skill to be on both sides of learning and teaching 😊
I absolutely love watching y'alls videos. I'm still on noob status, bought my first timberjack hard tail about a year ago and have really started to dedicate more riding during this pandemic era. Living in Central Texas, our trails are very technical and chunky. Drops are something I'm unfamiliar with but recently grasped the "effortless" technique doing circles around a parking lot recently. I'm still on about a curb to 12" in height level, but this video was so helpful! I also love seeing another gal rider. I ride with mainly dudes and seeing another gal being a badass is amazing. Keep the vids coming!
I've always been scared of drops. I was super stoked to see April's progression and your coaching of her techniques! These videos are super informative and I can't wait to get my bike and try! Looking forward to watching more of your videos! Subscribed!
So glad! Thanks!
That was one of the most motivational mtb “how to’s” I have ever watched! I have been riding for decades and still find drops over 4 feet daunting. This video is a great help. Thanks 🙏🏻
Glad it helped! Thats so cool that you enjoyed it :) thanks for watching!!
Same here pal but was dropping 4ft today like child’s play. I used to hop a bit and this is much more stable. I’ll try 6 ft next week. We have some hero drops at 16ft. One day!
As always, awesome period of instructions. I've learned alot of techniques watching you two and I will put it to the test this weekend. Thank you and Keep up the great work!
Super helpful video. I've always shied away from any jumps and also bunny hop too if I come across one. Take sooo much energy. Great job April and great teaching Kyle
Thanks, You have made something click in my head. I'll try and give this a go tomorrow.
Thats so awesome! I am super glad to hear that, yeah give it a shot but definitely practice the technique on something small first and then have a friend film you in slomo and try to analyze your riding!
Thank you so much April! I mean I know Kyle's tips, support, and leading helped. But watching you practice, improve, and walk through that fear is extremely helpful and inspiring for me! I reeeally want to work on my drops and learn how to do them properly and safely. I know I do the same as April and always hop off of it, then feel like I'm slamming into the ground. Thank you both!!
So glad you found this so helpful Brooke!
watched 1 video, subscribed and am in love with this. So technical, great explanations, this is what you were meant to do in life.
absolutely love your style of teaching. Ive learnt more watching these videos than any others on you tube. Thanks so much. Keep up the great work
Thanks so much!
I was proud of her seeing her do it!
Thank you!
This was such a good video. I feel like I actually learned how to do this. Can’t wait to try it on some beginner stuff!
I'm so glad!
Wow!!! YOU ROCK APRIL!!! Way to go! So great to have a good and patient teacher! I have been riding about 5 years but primarily solo and self taught. As a result, you are a far better rider than I am. I’m 52 so I don’t bounce as well as I used to haha but I would love to learn to be a better rider than I am now so I appreciate ALL your videos. Keep them coming and I’ll keep watching you two! Thank-you so much to you both!
Thank you so much John, it is really helpful to have Kyle throughout my whole journey!!!
Have watched a number of your videos and wanted to say thanks. I'm a first year MTBer and your descriptions of the mechanics/technique has been really helpful.
Glad to help! Thanks so much Mark!
Nicely done and I like the stepwise approach from ‘how to’ to ‘actually doing it’. Thanks Kyle and April 👍🏽
Glad you liked it!
Probably my favorite MTB channel. I'm 40 years old and brand new to this sport so I find your instructions very helpful. Thanks so much!
Glad to help! Thanks Clint!
I really enjoy mtn biking, I'm 74 years old and have used some of your Techniques such as the video showing how to corner, really noticed how much faster out of the turn I went and with better control. Will be trying some of the jumps this week after watching the video for hitting drops.
dude, this is so cool! really nice to see you two riding together and how supportive you are. wish i could ride like April!
Thank you Alvaro!
Just saw you in Rich Drew’s video, I live in KCMO close to bentonville, I’m 53, been riding for approx. 3 yrs. After watching several of your vids, you inspired me to share something I’ve been ashamed of most my life. I also have struggled with depression and anxiety/panic attacks most my life. Unable to take meds due to chronic stomach issues it’s been trial and error, the one thing I discovered recently that reduced my depression significantly was magnesium 64 from rising supplements, one a day. Thanks for the onnit 5htp recommendation, I still have a lot of panic/anxiety and will look into it. Needless to say life’s been a rocky ride so thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing, yeah its something i have struggled with my whole life as well and honestly biking , and giving back are the two things that have helped make me feel like life is worth living. I appreciate the honesty in your post and yeah definitely try 5htp or that new mood supplement from @onnit. I take that daily and i notice a huge difference if i skip some days
What video are you on with Rich Drew? He puts out some great stuff too.
Hope you are constantly becoming happier :)
This is the 'one' that ive been waiting for. What a perfect video. Thank you both and especially April for being so game to let us see how someone can learn and how proper teaching can make you look so confident and well skilled. Thank you both again. I'm off to practice this and take my son also. :)
Glad you enjoyed it! its was so fun to make! Just make sure to start small and then scale the technique up and have a lot of fun while you do it :)
Very well done - a great approach to teaching. Simple, to the point. The best I've seen.
That’s awesome! I’m trying to get more confidence on drop offs and jumps, great video
Really good video. The difference in technique between April’s first runs off the small drop and the big one at the end is incredible, she looks like a complete pro and the landing is lighter from the big drop than it was from the little one!
Definitely need to get out there and practise this as I think I still have a tendency to hop off drops.
thank you!
Dude!! This is one of the best how to videos on drops out there. Nicely detailed and explained well. Thank you 🤙🏽
I appreciate that! Thank you!
Really cool to see you two work on that together. Great teaching and excellent job, April! You two make a great team :)
Thank you so much!
Loving your vids guys! I could've used these tips a few months ago when i went down hard off a drop... Baby steps will be implemented when i get back on the trails :D Sending you healing vibes and a salute for standing up for humanity 💚
I was doing the same thing as April and never sure how I should approach a drop. Thank both you. Improving every ride with all your helpful videos
Thanks Randolf!
I can't give this enough of a thumbs up. Freaking awesome instruction and demonstration. Thanks Kyle and Great Job April!

That’s great to hear, thanks Joel!
Hey I watched a few of your uploads, coz I have been thinking about riding mtb's again. I thought your channel has great refreshers. Great tutorial. You explained it very well and the visuals made it make so much sense. Kudos to April for being such a quick learner.

Thank you! I am learning a lot through these videos but just trying to share what i have learned from racing pro for almost 10 years!
You can see Kyle coaching Paul the Punter in his channel too! I remember when I saw him I scremed of excitement lmao
Because the best coach is LOVE :)
Great job at teaching and way to go April. Just getting into this and finding your vids helpful for me and the wife. Keep it up guys.
Thank you!
This has always been one of my biggest fears - It's not been helped by me having a bad crash on a drop a few years ago.
So lately I've been watching a lot of vids on "how to" with drops. Although all of them have been helpful, this is the best one I have seen for showing technique, conservation of movement, and probably best of all, a rider starting small with bad technique, and building up to a great end result.
I still have a long way to go, but you guys have helped a lot. Thank you!
It put a big smile in my face when she succeeded the big drop. Great job!
This is the best drop video on CZcams, hands down. You don't need much, if any, explosive movement on a drop. It's literally just shifting your weight back as your tire begins to go over the edge. There's no "lunging the bike" ahead of yourself either (unless you're going too slow). It's just tighten up your core, get your weight back until your arms almost lockout, and then come back forward in time to match the landing.
This vid shows the correct and the easiest technique for drops.
Thank you and glad you enjoyed the video!
Great vid! This is one of the best how to’s. Ive seen others that have too much fluff and talking. This vid is all about executing the drop.
Thank you!
I got on to show my 5yo b/g twins gear changing and my son saw your video. Kyle-you are an excellent coach. Very intuitive and patient. You really let April just stay in her comfort zone which gave her confidence. Great job, April!
Best girlfriend ever! I can't get my misses to ride off a curb! Awesome teacher though, proper confidence inspiring.
Couldn't agree more! Thanks!
This comment did make me laugh, my Mrs is scared of even going on a bike so I normally ride alone hence I dont take risks but my daughter at the grand age of 26 has started coming out with me so I'll apply the tips given here. Great advice and immediately I'll stop hopping off the end of drops, thank you Kyle...
for someone who’s confidence took a beating after a bad crash a few years ago, I took so much out of this. thank you. time to get back on the bike!
Good luck vincent! Thank you so much for watching!
Kyle & April, thank you guys! I've been riding for a long time, I stopped for like 4 years, I saw your video and voila! Today I hit the trail almost 100%, there are 2 drops that I just didn't feel, but the other ones, thanks to you, today I crossed that from my bucket list. Thank you!
I have watched dozens of videos on how to drop. This video was the best I've seen and did a great job with showing the correct technique. I've subscribed.
Thank you!
I finally had the ah ha moment with my drops today. My feet kept falling off the pedals and back tire landing first. I watch this video again while on the skills course and realized I was not far enough back when shifting back. A few times on the small drops and I started going off the middle drop. Thanks again For these how to videos. Also, I am hitting the jumps on Flow a lot better now from watching your vidz.
Awesome, so glad it clicked for you!!!
Doooode. I realized I’ve been popping off drops English bunny hop style, always landing differently. First try after watching your video I smashed my local trail’s biggest drop like butter over and over constantly. Keep up the awesome content!!!
That is so awesome to hear!
Hands down the best video on mtb I've ever seen. Something has clicked in my head and I am amped to put these teachings into practice. Had a bad crash off a small drop last week and after watching this I instantly know what I did wrong! Thank you so much for your videos. 5 stars!!!!
That's awesome to hear! 😊
Brilliant video, well done April, really impressed by your skills and the coaching is totally on point!
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it!
I'm kind of jealous on April, she is progressing in almost no time on things that took me months or even years. I just started to get confident on drops last year but did not try anything that big as the biggest. Now I got the tips I need! BTW, the quick progress from small to big is just ...wow...really impressive! Congrats to both of you on that!!
Dont feel too bad, she has so much experience from motocross that transfers over and it gives her a massive advantage. Thank you so much for the nice words though!
That was awesome, well done April!
Thanks Christopher!
Brilliant stuff - my heart was in my mouth leading up to April's first attempt at the big drop off. What a team, liked and sub'd.

Wow! Well done April 👊🏻 nice to see someone teaching you how to do it and seeing how you improved!
Thanks so much!!

Thank you! 😊
Your channel literally relieves anxiety lol like you need to realize that great stuff
Haha thanks!
Best instruction videos I've seen. I think it's the showing it the 'wrong way ' is what sets you 2 apart from others.
Both inspiring and informative. You two are the best! Keep up the great work. It's really appreciated. Makes me want to go out and find a drop!
Thanks and good luck!
