"As a baby I broke my neck. I just walked it off."
-Origin story of a superhero
Facts lol
He's the hero we need.
This has the same energy as “Did you die?”
“Sadly… yes… BUT I LIVED!” *GASP*
I used to be walking too. Then I took a broken neck. Now I'm walking again.
FACT
Many years ago, my wife and I attended an event at our local Humane Shelter, the purpose of which was to get people to adopt the pets. I was friends with one of the workers, and they introduced us to Jess, a massive Austrian Shepherd/Timber wolf hybrid. Jess was considered unadoptable due to his highly aggressive nature and sheer size. The timber wolf blood didn't help. He was less than a week from being put down, and my friend was hoping my wife and I might be able help save him.
It took a few visits, and some time spent establishing respect, but we did end up taking Jess home, and he was a wonderful dog. Gentle, smart, and loving, we had many great years with him, and never regretted our choice to take him in. About the only thing we ever worried about was his tendency to chase cats. Even this turned out to not be a problem. Jess loved the chase, but had no idea what to do when one just walked up to him. Found him more than a few times curled up with our rescue cat, sleeping like a baby. Turns out, he just loved to run.
Boy, did that dog love to run.
We lived in a town at the time that was sort of half urban and half rural. It was a five minute drive to a busy downtown area, but across the street form our house was a cattle pasture of about a hundred acres or so. Which was not a big deal, until the day Jess got curious about those cows, and bolted off into the pasture.
Normally, he was really good about staying close, especially with my wife. She had a way with him, and he very rarely ignored her when she told him to stay or sit, or anything else. That day, though, I guess his curiosity got the better of him, and off he ran. Keeping up with him wasn't even a remote possibility.
By the time we did catch up, he'd herded all the cows in that pasture over to the barn, and was sitting there, looking very pleased with himself. As we walked over, the cattle owner was approaching, and I told my wife to brace for him being pretty pissed about having his cattle chased around. Instead, the older man walked up, took in the scene, and promptly offered us two hundred dollars for Jess, because that was best job he'd ever seen a dog do of herding cattle.
We politely refused, explaining how Jess had come to be with us.He nodded, gave Jess a pet on the head, (the super aggressive and unadoptable dog was more than ready for pets from a complete stranger by the way) and told us that herding cattle was as much instinct as training. He explained that he'd had many dogs over the years, and while they had sufficed, they'd never had a pure instinct for it like what he'd seen Jess do. If we ever reconsidered, or found ourselves unable to care for him, he'd be happy to have a dog like Jess by his side.
Sometimes I wonder if we did the right thing. Loved that dog, but I can't help wonder if we kept him from a better life, one he was gifted at, and clearly loved. I couldn't help but think about Jess watching the sheep dog do his thing.
Awwwwwwww !!!
That's a great story, man. Thanks for sharing. Never regret the life you gave Jess because he never would have had the chance to live it in the first place without you two!
@@spk1121 That is a really good point. Thank you! :D

The Chinese-english teacher should teach everyone who's learning English as a second language, he is an excellent teacher.
I know a couple of people with english as their FIRST language who could use some lessons from him.

Duuude... my mind was actually blown at how quickly she picked that up!!! That was so amazing I audibly laughed!
Except it isn’t a good way to learn the language. This was one sentence that he has to break down almost every word and compare it to something in Chinese to make it sound better. Imagine if when reading something in English every word you couldn’t just pronounce based on the typical rules of the language but instead you had to memorize a cheat code for every word. You’d never be even close to fluent. It certainly helps with pronunciation in this video, but in the overall language that’s just too much to do

For reference if sheep are non-compliant to herding and barking, dogs can start making "I'm gonna eat you movements" like nipping at heels. Sheep either flee or die IRL with wolves or wild dogs so they flee. Occasionally Rams will try to fight back if the dog gets too close, but Rams usually return to herd after asserting dominance (dogs are more than able to dodge) and will still go in desired direction because they are also not that stupid. Lone sheep even aggressive ones get killed by packs of hunters & where there is one wolf there are normally others.

With the Irish dancing one: it was incredibly smooth, and you can see all the muscle she has built up to be able to do that so fluidly and effortlessly. But I'm about 90% certain that was just an exercise, and not actually part of any sort of dance. Irish dancing is typically a very communal thing with a number of people, and running back and forth across the area doesn't really work well with that.
I think they do move about in solo performances. Also, during certain performances, I have seen some dancers move like that across the stage in the background while the rest dance in the front.

Friends with Border collie lived next door to kindergarten/preschool. Had to be careful when they let her out because if children were at recess she would herd them all to the back door of the building! It was hilarious to watch her herding 50 four and five year olds from the playground to the rear doors and the lil kids thought it was fun as hell, trying to outsmart her and go back out to the monkeybars or whatever - but it was identical to sheep being herded.

expecially since falling into a pushup should be in the realm of capability for any remotely trained person.
@@ghostdragon2282 that's my point, any reasonably fit person is capable of falling into a push-up, for most it's just a matter of having the courage to let yourself fall and trust that you catch yourself.

About the bridge-town, it's not that rare (several of those in Europe, even if smaller and older bridges (d'uh!). The point is, those *plains* seem to be on a basin that floods frequently (in fact, after closer inspection, there are rice paddies everywhere, so it should be counted as marshland), so a big, sturdy bridge is much better than rebuilding your town every2-3 years. Even if the bridge collapses, less people will die at once and less property will be lost than if the town is flooded again and again since the bridge may collapse after 20-30 years.

Every pax ferry has a target time they have to hit for full evac. These MES usually makes that time quite easy to hit they're just that good. Someone will have had to have figured out how much extra time it'd take to get pax from the vehicle deck, up into the cabin levels and into the rafts from there and probably had to write and entire new muster and procedure list for it too.
Also depending on the ship and type of vehicles/freight they'd have to consider type of fixed fire suppression vehicle decks have. Some enclosed vehicle decks have a Co2 system similar to what they'll have in their engine rooms. They tend to suffocate people just as effectively as fire.
Ships I worked on wouldn't have allowed pax on vehicle deck period because they are fast craft cats. The regs are far stricter and tbf the access from vehicle decks to cabin are somewhat cramped compared to most conventional ships.
We have similar emergency rafts on our ship.

Well If Titanic happened nowadays It would have been similar to how it happen in the original as Andrews Thomas the designer of the ship had argued for the ship having more lifeboats and for other safety measures, writers William Henry Flayhart III for Scientific American. His proposal would have resulted in there being enough lifeboats for everyone on the ship, he writes, but the president of the White Star Line, Bruce Ismay, “protested that they already had more than the legally required number of lifeboats (16) and the extra boats simply would clutter up the beautiful open expanse of the upper deck, where first-class passengers would want to stroll.”
If The Titanic event told us few things that is the sea is scary, it's never hurt to be over prepared, and don't be overconfidence in anything.
yes but these are inflatable, and take up far less deck space, all while not being an eye sore. and Dammit how did you get to me to argue in defense of bruce ismay? I feel dirty now
Not to mention that most of the lifeboats launched at well below capacity because they were so sure of quick rescue because they sent out an SOS with their new wireless. Unfortunately, the ship took on water much quicker than the crew estimated and sank before other ships arrived.
ship design and engineering is much superior compared to 100 years
The Titanic was symbolic of the English-speaking culture of the time. People of the Victorian and Edwardian eras became convinced they had conquered nature both in technology and human psychology ( mainly their attitudes regarding sexuality, about which they were lying hypocrites ). They really believed that "God Himself could not sink this ship", which is why her sinking was so shocking at the time; a 35,000-ton embodiment of WASP arrogance sunk on her maiden voyage and the best they could make of it was to hide the testimony that she broke while sinking an officially report that she went down in one piece.
A lot of lessons were learned from Titanic but even back on Titanic those lifeboats were 100 man and had an overload capacity of 100% so could carry double in a pinch.
The biggest lesson from Titanic though were the dangers of panic and importance of crew training and crowd control. It took quite a few more ships and a lot more lives before the lesson of just how bad the old davit and boat set up was though. Eventually it became regulation that the ships must have double the life boat/raft space of the Ships max carrying capacity. In theory a modern pax ferry can lose 3/4 of their life raft and still have enough space.
