  • This is Part 3 of a multi-part series documenting the installation of a new Tesla Solar Roof and Powerwall at a home near San Antonio, Texas!
In this video, we talk with Carson Blair, former Major League baseball catcher and now CEO of Vikta Energy about the various modular components that go into a Tesla Solar Roof, how these are installed and what you can expect as the installation proceeds from the prepared roof surface with the Tesla-provided underlayment layer through completed installation. We will also cover many common questions people have when considering this solar and power backup solution.
Because the installation of the Powerwalls and Gateway had not yet been completed at this point, we will cover this in Part 4 and tie the entire process together.
In Part 1 of this video series, we talked with the homeowner and got her thoughts on why she selected a Tesla Solar Roof. We also saw the initial steps to get the process underway. It should be noted this is in addition to a full home restoration & expansion, so much more construction is underway at this project than what you might see at a typical installation.
In Part 2 of this video series, we talked with one of the employees of Vikta Energy, the company contracted by Tesla to do this roof installation and we see the steps necessary to remove to original roof and begin preparations to ensure the roof is ready for the Tesla Solar Roof installation. One of the most important steps once the old roof is removed is the installation of a Tesla roof underlayment membrane material, that not only protects the roof and makes it water proof, it also is self-sealing and provides the proper surface on which the Tesla Solar Panels can be installed.
Part 4 will include discussion of the Tesla Powerwall and Gateway installation, a bonus discussion about how a Cybertruck purchase can integrate with Powerwalls and the Gateway, and we will talk with a representative of Vikta Energy about the warranty, lessons learned through this installation and service after the sale. Finally, we'll talk with the homeowner about their perspective of the installation process. This video will be the wrap-up and conclusion of the project.

Joe, you're doing a great job interviewing... keeping the questions short, but asking the necessary questions to inform your audience.

Nice video and series! Turning into a real "infomercial", which would not only cost Tesla a few bucks to make, but would not automatically have the audience of your YT followers. Maybe they can make you a "deal" on your place? 😊

Thanks for this series Joe. Up until recently this was a Tesla energy product that did not get much attention. It is gratifying to see it is a complete and workable solution for renewable energy needs. And it is gorgeous. Just one question though about the glass panels. Can they be walked upon? I would like to know the answer to that as a practical question.

Vents really should be replumbed to go out the sides of the house. They require so much engineering and work that it would be more efficient to call a plumber in a week before to eliminate roof protrusions.

    • @MikesTropicalTech
      @MikesTropicalTech Před 2 měsíci

Building codes say the top of the vents must be "this-high" which means it's difficult to position them around the edge without making the pipe 10' high.

Great insight on the solar roof I wish there were more videos and news about it! I think it's a hugely unknown/almost forgotten asset of what Tesla's doing.

Noticed a later drone shot where you could see all the old copper had been used to finish out the back side of the roof. Really nice that the build teams worked together to make that happen.

Tesla should design and build homes with a roof that is a single, flat plane set at the ideal angle to capture winter sun.
The roof overhang should shade the interior in summer but allow the lower winter sun to penetrate the home.
It would make solar installation a snap.

You don't need giant solar panels.
The vast majority of installation time is taken up trying to fit panels into geometry not designed for them.

Question for Carson: How constrained are your supplies from the Tesla Buffalo Gigafactory? Rollout of solar roofs seems excruciatingly slow, so I wonder what the issues are (other than the obvious cost issue). Thanks.

what was the price for this install? I got a estimate for a gable end roof with no valleys and 1,000 sq ft for $250,000. Now maybe on Mars that makes sense but on Earth that is a ludicrous price. Why doesn't Tesla let home owners buy solar shingles? If we really want to stop burning carbon then Tesla is going to have to sell direct to consumer like they do their cars. Also what was that massive round steel structure on the side of the house?

  • @WarrenLacefield

Great video series! Just curious, what is that big round silver "tank" next to one end of the house? There is already a pool in the backyard. Maybe that is a rain water collection system.

Undecided installed a metal roof and solar panels. His neighbour installed a solar roof. When they compared the 2 the costs were similar. We are planning a metal roof which stretches our resources but one could see that in the long term it makes sense.

Every home and business should install a rain water collection and storage system along with solar panels.
Even in areas where rain is infrequent it is crazy to waste the little rain that does fall and waste it.
We need to stop planting green lawns and switch to local native plantings around homes.
It is crazy to plant lawns and build golf courses in dry desert areas. We waste too much water and electricity.
the future is electric. Wind and solar energy along with electric vehicles are the future. Stop using fossil fuels. There is a climate crisis.

General pronounciation divide between east and west, east says roof with the long o's and west says more "ruff/rough".
