And given the minimal cost involved in this situation, I can't believe the insurance staffer was so stupid. The reality is, it costs money to deal with these complaints even if the attorneys are company staff. So it's almost always better to find and alternative to that. And if you can't accommodate the request, you'd better be DAMN sure you've handled the rejection correctly... otherwise your company is gonna lose a BUNCH of money.

That story about the neighbor below OP thinking they're being loud is strikingly similar (but not to the extreme) that my sibling dealt with a coupe years ago in Colorado. My sibling lives alone with their dog. The downstairs neighbor would bang on the walls and on the ceiling, screaming about how my sibling was being too loud. This would happen at 3am when my sibling would be sleeping too, which kept my sibling from sleeping. Their apartments had balconies and my sibling overheard the downstairs neighbor talking to their father who is a police officer threatening to go up to my sibling's apartment and beat her up, which my sibling immediately called out (and recorded). My sibling has anxiety and works 2 jobs so they are rarely home except to sleep. The neighbor kept claiming my sibling would run a Roomba all day and all night. The apartment also didn't have a manager or staff member to deal with issues between tenants for a long part of this. Eventually, they came the conclusion that the heating pipes in the walls of the bedroom side of the apartments were making the noise because it started during the fall when it got cold and only located in that area, not my sibling. PTSD was obviously dealt to my sibling from all this. Gets scared every time an item falls or if they took a step a tad too hard.. Walking on eggshells to not make noise is exhausting! They literally had maintenance and a cop communicate between the two apartments to confirm it wasn't my sibling or a Roomba but, the screaming and banging on the walls didn't stop. It also didn't help that this neighbor apparently has mental issues and uses some sort of substance along with alcohol... -_- I'm not sure why people think it is the people being inconsiderate and don't consider the actual infrastructure in between the apartments possibly making the noise! Just because the pipes are hidden, doesn't mean they don't make noise!

When my husband and I were first married, we went to visit friends in Memphis. They lived on the first floor of an apartment building. Man, the people who lived above them sounded like they were literally bowling upstairs! It wasn't like a walking sound, it was like a huge BOOM then rolling sounds. I'm telling you, literally bowling! The kids would come home from school and it was like the loudest thunderstorm you've ever heard! I'm not exaggerating! It would scare the hell out of me and my husband lol the first day we were there we stepped out of the apartment to "help them move" because it sounded like they were moving furniture and dropping it a lot LMAO
Needless to say, I can see how loud upstairs neighbors can seem even living normally. I live in a duplex now and I can hear them walking on our 100 year old floors all the time. Our duplex was originally a large house that they've divided into 2 apartments. Luckily, we only hear them when we're closest to each other, like near the wall that divides the house.

If the door is locked it can still be opened from the inside example being the student who let the other student in. It is more so the fact the teacher locked the students out (even worse is when they lock them out before the bell rings). There was probably other things students told the principals about as well.

Actually both situations: keeping student locked out, and rest of the class locked in, is dangerous. AFAIK the only time teacher is permuted to lock the class door is when lockdown is declared due to presence of someone dangerous on the school ground.
That teacher screwed up and I think the only reason she didn't loose her job that day was because it would be too problematic to break her contract and find replacement.

@Luna _TheRaider Just a thought though. Think about what if an active shooting started happenning. That child that is locked outside the classroom is now dead because a teacher locked the classroom door, especially since the moment an active shooting is called all the children are instructed away from the doors and windows. Plus in real life situations people are more likely to panic. That child would not be seen by classmates or the teacher. That child is now dead. I do believe that qualifies as child endangerment.

Oh jeez, I once had a job working at a health food store. My assistant manager seemed to hate me and would keep talking down to me, telling me to do things not in my job description because "you're young, my back hurts and I can't go up those stairs" (she had no problem going upstairs to her office, however, and my legs were fucked up to the point I needed physical therapy to help relieve the pain). I was once passing her in the hall ten minutes before the end of my shift to get something from the coolers, and she TOLD me "you're staying an extra hour."
Staying an extra hour would have put me in traffic and added another hour and a half to two hours onto my already lengthy commute (2 hours normally one way, I didn't have a car so I took the bus). I paused, looked at her, and said "No I'm not because I have plans." I didn't really, but I did need to rush home so I could let my dog out since by that point, my roommate had gone to work a couple hours before (she always let him out before she went to work) and I didn't want my dog to have to wait up to 6 hours just to pee.
So I left at my scheduled time, and the next day she tried to get me in trouble for not staying late to help, but I told her I worked my scheduled shift and didn't agree to stay, and if she was really that short-staffed she could have stayed or called someone to ask if they wanted to come in an hour early. I'm glad I don't work there anymore, last I heard the department I worked in became a dumpster fire.

The catholic school story reminds me of something my dad told me about his middle school (which was filled with high-school aged kids who had flunked out). My dad was 16 in 8th grade (he aced tests but hated homework and had poor attendance). One day a kid near him in class had a firecracker and held it up. My dad (who had been smoking since he was about 14) pulled out a lighter and lit it. The kid tried to throw it out the window, but the windows were covered in chickenwire to stop kids from throwing things through them. It bounced and landed behind the teacher but the teacher didn't notice it. It went off and scared the crap out of the teacher. His pants were piss-soaked. So he was pissed on AND pissed off. He demanded to know who was responsible. No one would talk. He then ordered everyone to write the name of the culprit on a sheet of paper and pass it to him. Now, there was one goody two-shoes kid in the class named Dean. Everyone knew he would rat people out. So, the teacher gets the papers back and 99% said "Dean" and the one from Dean had my father's name. The teacher couldn't do anything though bc he couldn't prove it was my father who did it.
The bell ringing thing reminded me of what happened to my mother in Catholic school. There was this nun who was an absolute bitch. She would break multiple rulers per week by hitting students with them. She had a rule that the homework had to be on the table before the bell rang. But one day she opened the door late so kids were rushing in and there were 5 (including my mother) all trying to put their homework on her desk when the bell rang. She balled up her fist and backhanded all of them in their faces. My mom essentially got punched in the face by a nun. I guess some of the kids complained bc they ended up shipping that nun off to a loony bin after that.

Eventually, the battle ended but was comical at the time.

All went quiet downstairs for a second then those obnoxious asshats started banging on the ceiling! I know in this one that sounds like it could violate several parts of the worker protection.
1.) You have to get the permission of the worker to add hours which would definitely have been violated up front.
    Same for...
2.) The maximum amount of work in a day which would also be violated by a 12 hour shift.
    Which may also lead into...
3.) The required amount of time between shifts. Which is heavily implied to be violated after mention of needing to be up in the morning for the next one and that one taking 12 hours of that day. They've only got 4 hours of leeway since there must be 8 hours between shifts.

I always say up front to a new employer that I will not lie to clients and they say it won't happen. I worked for pension consulting companies so there is fiduciary responsibility involved besides the fact I am handling billions of dollars. They are so concerned about their liability that I get fingerprinted and background checked but it never fails that some boss will ask me to lie to a client, I refuse, I get in trouble. These are extremely large consulting companies. Also having worked in HR many times doing the same work we are ordered to lie to employees. Try standing up and lying to 1000 people. My husband got very drunk after that speech. Exxon terminated him right after that a couple of weeks before his 10 year cliff vesting which meant he lost 10 years of pension money. There is obviously more to the story. So I thought consulting would be better working with lawyers, CPAs, and actuaries, but everybody has skeletons in the closet and I want to quit after I am aware of them. I have zero faith in management having any integrity with very very few exceptional individuals over my career. One of the best managers in my career got terminated by my consulting company and hired by Boeing HR. Congrats to Boeing, you got lucky because he is smart and honest. Most likely the reason he lost his job and they kept the idiot who didn't do anything but talk. I thought he was insulting me initially but it turns out he had a mental disorder of some kind where he would think out loud as he described simple vesting to me with over 40 years of experience. Some how management never noticed this issue but the people who worked for him had to listen for hours and productivity must have been cut way down because I wanted to scream and run from him. I would have quit if I worked in that department and that was the manager they kept. Of course they also kept the manager with 100 percent turnover every year.

I had a newborn & they'd keep her awake. I knocked on the door one night, and the woman said it wasn't her. Must've been the neighbor. As soon as she said that, a sweaty kid who was out of breath came running up to the door. I thought about choking it, but was too exhausted. 🤣

Am I the only one who finds the first story sus? Who calls the insurance company instead of their doctor? You go to your doctor to ask for a new prescription if you run out of refills or it expired, the insurance company can't write you a new prescription. And if it expired it's the pharmacy that's not refilling it, not the insurance company. And all prescriptions have fixed refills and expiration dates (right on the bottle!) because prescriptions don't exist in perpetuity with endless refills, no matter how long term a condition is. Medical care is a process that involves regular doctor's visits and assessments, where prescriptions can be refined or stopped. And if the prescription had expired then OP was long past due for a follow-up with a doctor, an appointment that should have been scheduled long in advance. And what could the insurance company even do if there wasn't an active claim (a new prescription) happening? And "I sued them and won!" no details, timelines or anything. And I don't even think OP had much of a claim to even win with. Top to bottom the story is weird. The pharmacy, even the insurance company, would have told OP to talk to their doctor about getting a new prescription and this "story" wouldn't have happened.

From the person, who lives above me (I think), I very often hear loud coughing (sometimes even as he would cough his lungs out). From the main door a few stories below me, I can hear the one door, which needs oil. But that is during the day.

Is it that our American craftsmanship is so crappy compared to most countries the reason that we consider a building to be "old" at 20 years? I mean, Europe has building that have stood for hundreds, if not a thousand, years, and are still in daily use. That apartment wasn't even old enough to drink, lol.

No one calls 20 year old buildings old except zoomers with no perspective and rich idiots who think everything needs to be brand new to be acceptable.

@@robertc.9503 I'm just hearing it more and more in various posts, and it really makes me facepalm and understand why we can't have nice things

I want to know what Miss prick would have done if the entire class just told her no and continued to sit

last story: I guess, the VP had another problem. a locked door with students inside is a huge problem in case of an emergency.

I had a manager who hired someone to do my job (because i was lazy and unreliable i assume because lots of complaints on unfinished work since i had a million item list to do) he had me train them then cut my hours I did exactly what he said and his new hard working employee got tired of the giant list of shit and didn't show up to work for a whole week and didn't answer his phone guess who he called to work I simply said I had already taken extra doordash hours to cover my missing hours a lie but guess who had to work 5 double shifts and who got all his 40 hours back the next week. Ofc he cut my hours because I was unreliable and hired a ton of new people because no one wanted to cover those shifts for him. Happy ending I applied for unemployment since my hours were cut so they transferred me to a better store since they would rather pay me to work then pay me to stay home looking for work now my duties are much less so i can finish really quick and my new boss is the best.

Note to people who live in a apartment building. If you're a Karen and you think that every little noise, you can pound on the floor of the tenants above you. Yeah I'm going to laugh when the cops get called and you get arrested for harassment and you get kicked out of your house

Hehehe, last story is funny. So she teaches justice. She commits what's basically considered a war crime (basically you are not allowed to punish an entire group for the actions of one, or even a few. ESPECIALLY if those people are locked up against their will. Remember the locked door?). So she got a taste of the thing she was supposed to teach.
