  • The new season here in North Carolina is getting underway. Temps are down but winds are up. Combined temp and wind speed amounted to just under 100F or about 37C. I hate wearing wetsuit and boots, but you do what you have to do to enjoy these good winds.
Warren was down with his A-Cat and new sail (fit and worked great) another couple on a Laser II and a third bunch on a Capri 16 with heavy keel. Winds stayed about 15 to 20+ knots most of the day but were very blustery and shifty early on.
Weta Tip - keep your ass off the rail and off the ama. If you can manage the core strength keeping your butt halfway between the two allows you to use body weight and motions to move the boat under you and make it do pretty much anything you want it to do. The Weta is just small and light enough to allow you to do this, if you have the core strength. This is something I picked up from top level Laser (and similar) sailors. They move the boat underneath themselves as they go.
One last thing - my buddy Warren who sails the A-Class Catamaran came up to me while I was setting up and said "My head is about to explode." I was worried because he had just had a medical procedure about a month prior and this was his first time back sailing. I asked him if he had a really bad headache or something. He said - "No guy, I'm just so excited about what we're getting ready to do that I had to tell somebody before my head exploded with excitement."

I expected this video to be out soon. Wife and I were watching the weather over the week and knew the day would have wind but were just not prepared soon enough to get out. Looked like a nice spirited sail.

Where do you put in at Jordan? Is that Vista Point?

That is Vista Point. The beach is for sailboat launching but the swimmers and picknickers use it anyway. Vista is still closed but I think they re-open this coming week.

I was looking at your videos because I’m planning to go to Jordan for the first time tomorrow, and I was looking for where to put in. I’ve got a Windrider 17 and we’ve talked at Oak Hollow. Love your videos!

@@scottbryant7187 You'll love it. Can take a real voyage there and you can get under the bridge at 64. 15,000 acres. No homes on the shoreline. Enjoy.

I didn’t think I’d be able to get under the bridge! That’s great! Where would you suggest input in, on the west side?

@@scottbryant7187 Poes Ridge down near the dam puts you on the Haw River side which is quite nice and doesn't see many sail or pleasureboats. Very isolated. Or you can put in at Farrington Point which is a nice area. Watch out for the submerged tree tops between Farrington and Crosswinds Marina, but you are in a boat that won't likely be damaged if you hit a tree top.
