- Boat trim is key. You may need to be out beyond the rail or you may need to sail from the leeward side. It all depends on the conditions you're sailing in. Do what you need to do.

As with nearly every other weta video on youtube the best way to make a weta go fast is just speed up the playback speed on your videos. 2x!!!!!!!
Very good tips. Also "Bow Down" sailing is way faster on a Weta. If the helm isn't effortless you're probably incorrectly trimmed (usually overtrimmed) the boat when balanced sails like an arrow.
Don't forget about rigging, Tom's tips on rake and tension are right on the money.
Finally, I found the new Square Top main was a lot faster in both low/high wind conditions (my boat came with a well used Gaastra that was pretty "crunchy" by the time I had it. It reacts a lot more to cunningham than the Gaastra did. The only weakness was a useless top batten that was as stiff as a board.
Funny you mention the helm - even at speed up or downwind, I can steer the boat with my fingertips. Just a slight tad of weather helm, but only a tad. If you watch my helm hand upwind, it's like the boat has power steering.
@@TomKirkman1 The beauty of the Weta is that it likes to sail straight. Trim/setup/weight distribution is everything for speed. I use to really enjoy going upwind when the wind was high, close reaching was magical... I miss my boat :(
