The boat's service began on 19 July 1941 with training as part of the 5th U-boat Flotilla. She was transferred to the 3rd Flotilla on 1 November 1941 for active service, followed by a transfer to 29th Flotilla on 1 January 1942 in the Mediterranean.
In 10 patrols she sank 8 merchant ships, for a total of 8,090 GRT, plus 1 warship damaged and another merchant ship written off as a total loss.

U-375 has been missing since 25 July 1943 in the Mediterranean Sea south of Sicily. All hands were lost.[1]
Previously recorded fate

U-375 was thought to have been sunk after being depth charged by USN submarine chaser PC-624 on 30 July 1943 at position 36°40′N 12°28′E in the Mediterranean NW of Malta. All hands were lost. This attack was actually against Italian submarine Velella, inflicting no damage.

TBH The early model U boat radars in SH3 were never worth using in my experience, the watch would usually SEE targets before that thing picked them up if the weather was anything but fog, even if they were in arc. But it was VERY effective at alerting enemy warships to your location though...
Oh and Metox will not keep you safe for long, Ironically it was rolled out just as the Allies were starting to switch to Centimetric radar, which Metox can't detect. Any ship rocking a brand new radar isn't going to set it off, only the ones still using older equipment will.
the Germans suspected that the allies had a metox detector aswell in December 1942 due to to much faith in enigma.
I know you may not believe this Wolfpack but this is the best episode you've ever made. Your opening narration and editing is better than anything on television i've watched in the past 10 years. You may not notice this, but you're hitting your stride right now.

Aside from revamped machinery, different conning tower and integrated S-Gerät (active sonar), there isn't any real difference from B variant.
With 100% hull integrity, she can go down to 230m, safely.
Frankly, I would have preferred Wolfpack to stay in U-75, the old Type VIIB, just for the continuity factor.
@@timonsolus Fair enough. Type VIIC doesn't bring any advanced features: Surface search and sky search radar nor a radar detector.
@@JustPeasant : Historically, U-73 (a Type VIIB) conducted war patrols in the Mediterranean until 16 December 1943, when it was finally sunk. Because it was in the Mediterranean, it wasn’t relegated to training duty like the other surviving Type VIIB’s.
Crush Depth according to newer calculation is at least 280m, wouldn't bet on it though since GWX has a certain randomization in crush depth unless disabled afaik.
@@Reconforce13 Certainly. When U-331 obliterated HMS Barham (from point blank range, three eels), it performed such violent crash dive that crew weren't able to stabilise her, until they reached the depth of 268m...

Hi wolfpack! I got your channel recommended to me a few weeks ago and I have binge watched all your silent hunter series in that time. A huge fan of your work! I was binging your u-boat series from your uboat playlist, but they are not in chronological order either in the playlist, nor in the title so that makes it a bit difficult for any potential viewers to binge that series too. You could maybe put them in a series too, or as much as possible if dates dont co incide. that would significantly help us. Thanks once again. You're the best sub youtuber out there!

Hey Wolfpack, greetings from Brazil. Excellent video as always. This is by far my favorite series on your channel. A question for you (or for any other channel member who understands the subject better) and I apologize if it's an obvious reason that I simply didn't understand: in scenarios like the one in the video, where there is only one escort ship, it wouldn't be better to simply first attack the escort ship and sink it and then deal with the merchant ship? I understand that the main target for sinking will always be the merchant ship, but considering that the merchant ship won't chase you and drop depth charges, I don't know, in my opinion it would make more sense. Anyway, once again, excellent video and excellent editing. The way you bring immersion to the story is memorable. Congratulations for that and keep up the great work!

If it was me I would've put a fish into that warship first, makes putting the freighter on the bottom and the subsequent egress a lot easier

@@user-ob6kh7ds8c I was thinking Kilo myself if he did a DE boat again. Alfa is fast, but makes a lot of noise… and Wolfpack has a penchant for hitting crush depth in them. I’d say a Victor III for the first time would be nice if he went NB.

The way that radar is installed, it's basically an early phased array!!!
Meh, just a bunch of receivers placed in a part of a circle., which probably does allow for some direction finding. A phased array is able tow sweep a scan bundle by modifying the phase between the transmitters, just like a mechanical tracking antenna would do.
For the Med that went quite well.

If you ever revisit Cold Waters, would you consider getting into either a Kilo or a Victor III? I don’t think I’ve seen you in either of those, and they both give you headaches or heartburn when playing as a US sub. Trafalger is an okay sub, it’s the Tigerfish torpedoes that make it a letdown in my opinion… since, of course, the British wanted a Monty Python approved main weapon on their boats rather than its American counterpart…
We fixed it with spearfish but yea we don’t talk about tigerfish.

Just an inquiry. I feel like in this situation you could've destroyed the warship first, leaving the freighter all by itself and being an easy target and not having to run away. Why was that not done?
Because of their anti sub sweeps. You fire and they decide to randomly do a sweep out to the side and you miss. A failed attack costs you both ships if they detect it. Early war it's worth it because the freighters don't have deck guns, but later they do, so better off just torpedoing the main prize.

Any plans to do a series on the freshly released Uboat beta or are you waiting for the game release? I guess a series as s as beta is tough as you can list the ship during updates

Did they or a mod fix the bug that happened when you surfaced, and the crew but no officer manned the bridge? Having to manually assign an officer became a bit of a pain for me.

What's about this active sonar on u-boats? I never found anything about that. And wasn't early active Sonar not able to detect surfaced targets? I think SH 3 is wrong here.
They had the S-Gerat active sonar from about 1942, but U-boat commanders were reluctant to use it for fear of revealing themselves to enemy hunters.
@@garytwinem5275 Source? Wikipedia talks about detecting mines and removing the S- Gerät around '43 in favour of radar- dectiondevices. The books i own never"talk" about the S- Gerät. :I

Why did the U boats not go after the warships? If the enemy has no escorts then they can’t protect the convoy’s from surface attacks.

Cargo ships often carried strategic materials, far more important than a corvette which can be pumped out by the dozens
Sometime they did, but generally escorts are a lot harder to hit and it’s a bigger risk
Attacking merchant ships on the surface also came with risk, because after 1940, nearly all British merchant ships had a deck gun.

Exactly that, you're not firing a torpedo, there's no powder charge burning to propel the projectile, you're just "letting it go" - the entire torpedo is propeller + projectile.
