If command didn't give you commendation for sinking two ships in a *Whiskey* in 1984 and also returning home alive I would have been grumpy.
Good luck Товарищ Командир! and remember: if you're detected, shut everything down and have the crew make whale noises 🐋
Good plan! We will attempt this and see how it goes!
What was the name of movie? i was too young to comprehend 😂

Dot mod is a great mod for cold waters
I tried USSR campaign and I died everytime
Yeah, it's extremely painful but oh so rewarding.
I think I am just a masochist at this point...
Stick to the diesels until you get the a Victor with wire guided torpedoes.
Diesel subs get weaker opponents.
You can face oberons and Kobbens with a diesel sub but not a MK48 with a Charlie.
I die with the commie U-Boats and hardly get prestige, I die with the commie surface tin cans and hardly get prestige, constant losses of crew and captures bringing campaigns to end. NATO runs fare much better, if only because it feels like their surface ships actually get CIWS...
where do i get cold waters mods from.?
"they don't know where we, let's go up to telescope"
that tactic would get you bounced from submarine school for gross stupidity
He is in a whiskey. When he fires he will be spotted. If he does hold the element of suprise, he better make his first shot count. Which meams he is better off giving is ESM away on radar to make a sure shot.
@@egoalter1276he’s in a boat that was made in the 50’s before the Soviets could make small reactors. He’s on a death mission so you are totally right, his boat is so obsolete any kills are worth risking the vessel. If anything the crew is more valuable than the ship
Soviet doctrine states that if you detect a western sub, it has already detected and likely fired upon you. As someone whos served on a 688, a Whiskey doesnt stand a snowballs chance in hell against one.
@HobbitJack Good to know, I need to look to see if I can switch it on because it doesn't seem to be working or activated.
I've been trying to play the mod and holy shit does it fucking suck playing as any of the starting Soviet subs against /Los Angeles Class/ submarines. While Foxtrot is new, it's still almost as loud and as old as Whiskey, and infact, it was the first boat that I even encountered the Kobben in. Really rough times.
Yeah but that depends on the competence of the crew. I mean, the crew of a seawolf could miss a freaking "bathymetric feature".
@@howardkong8927 trust me, Its a lot easier than you would think. Ive been on two boats that face planted into something.
cope and seethe westoid, total taliban victory , no navy needed lel
Few years passed since i found this Channel, and i can say that now, i cant live without Wolfpack and his Videos! He helped me greatly to understand many parts of History, equipment and so so much more. Wolfpack you are a hero man! For those who watch every single video of yours: You are a Hero to us!
Thanks man! The great part is I have been learning and understanding more aspects of history and equipment right there with you all! :)
@@Wolfpack345 For the first time, seeing this Channel i was like "Hmm what a unusual Channel, he really tries to simulate a Game into and as far close Reality, what the hell? Why is he so attached to a Game and Scenario?" Then i understood everything, how brilliant this is, and how you tried against all and everything to recreate History as close as one could do digitally, in a time when everyone could not even understand the Idea. The Uboat series killed me, and i watched it all for more than 3 times, even if i was and still i am not supportive to the German Military and History in ww2, but yet i was attracted more and more. You are truly a Hero!
@@Wolfpack345 Is he a Pilot? Is he a Tank Commander? Is he a Ship Capitan? Is he a Military Strategic Planner/General? Is he a Submarine Capitan? Is he a Bomber? NO! He is Wolfpack345!
This deserves all the upvotes
@@cocindaucocindau354 He is... the Master, and Commander.
Delighted to see this unexpected reboot of your Type XXI series. ^^
😂
No, it comes next with the Foxtrot, while this thing got some tech from german submarine advancements, it was mostly limited to sensors.
It's a updated clone of Microprose's Red Storm Rising. Loved that game!
Looking at the specs of this thing, he might even be better off with a bloody Type XXI
My first reaction: why are using a ww2 sub in the 1980ies? That thing looks old.
Same, I was wondering what a XXI was doing here until I noticed the chin.
It was still very much in use though and was used to terrorize the Swedish coast guard plenty of times.
I just hate myself apparently...
@@Wolfpack345 then I continued to watch the video and realized, well, I might not be a naval guy, but it seems I still can identify WW2 tech :D
It doesn't look old. It IS old.
As a russian speaker, the russian in the mod is outstanding. Hard hear all of them, unfortunately your comments ride over top of them speaking. But from the sound clips I did hear they sound very authentic to real russian naval commands.
That because Russian sounds from Epic mod, which is made by Russian team.
@@dimitrys4492 that makes since, sounds great, the commands are legit they were telling distance to targets, when tubes were ready.
Was thinking just yesterday “I should try out Dot Mod” and this pops up. Lol love it. Also great work on the video editing to look like VHS. I think I remember you saying you were working on stuff like that back in one of your SH4 videos. Love your content without it of course but it’s a fun addition!
In DotMod, there's actually a little indicator next to the "Active Sonar" button that indicates whether you can leave combat. Red means no, green means yes.
Improvements over the German type XXI U-boat is that whiskey-class submarine is slower, louder and with fewer bow tubes. In short, Whiskey-class was outdated by the time when first boat of this class was commissioned. 😫😫😫
Edit: I dig VHS "like" image, Wolf
The Whiskey is faster on the surface, but slower submerged. However, the Whiskey has longer submerged endurance.
The Whiskey has 6 torpedo tubes, 4 in the bow and 2 in the stern. This is a good arrangement for a balanced load out. The 4 bow tubes can be used for anti surface ship torpedoes, while the 2 stern tubes can be used for an anti submarine torpedo and a noisemaker decoy.
@@timonsolus max depth 200m and max 13 kn submerged? Pathetic, the type xxi easily bests that!
It was still very much in use at this point though but mostly in coastal waters like the Baltic Sea and the Swedish coast guard had plenty of problems finding these back in the day. It was actually almost laughable.
Soviets were locked land bloodbath against the Germans. Naval development was put on hold during WWII. After the war, there was a lot of catching up in to do against the west in naval technology and deployment. It wasn't until Kilo-class (proyekt 877) that Soviet/Russian diesel-electric submarines were a real threat.
@@Tom--Ace : True, but the Whiskey has better sensors and better torpedoes.
I Can't help but laugh at the thought of some Russian admiral sending official orders containing the phrase "Will hurt them *big time*"! 🤣
Oh God, Whiskeys are just pure pain. No torpedoes, no speed, very little stealth.
Yep, i started off in a foxtrot and that was extremely painful although i did survive long enough to get a SSN
Great approche to set up the 80s felling in the Intro. HiQ content, as always.
Thanks!
Yay! I'm glad to see the return of Cold Waters! Of course running in an old whisky boat is insane, but should be fun to watch.
Should be a fun series!
@@Wolfpack345 are you going to be upgrading sub class like the gar series
Being sent out in a Whiskey to attack a convoy being escorted by a Los Angeles is like being sent out to kill a bear and her cubs with a nothing but a boomerang.
I just bought Cold Waters a week ago and have been learning a bit with the Epic mod. Dot mod is next on the menu for sure.
It would be neat to see a duel between Wolfpack and Jingles. But alas, no multiplayer in Cold Waters.
the duel would end with no winner as Jingles would perform a Jingles Landing and thus become literally unsinkable after taking 13 torpedoes
@@lanteanboy That or Jingles torpedoes gets hit with the Jingles effect and starts hunting Jingles instead.
@HobbitJack It would be a challenge to do such a thing. But well worth it.
@HobbitJack better off to write the entire game's code from scratch.. Rather than editing the binary code..
Or if somehow coldfish studio willing to sell Coldwaters sourcecode.. Adding the multiplayer through network support
As well as tactical planning in the same breath as say silent hunter..
Utilizing all the dotmod assets so far which in itself already fantastic in my book..
And publish the spiritual successor of cold waters..
But the question which is lingering and hovering about is the profit.
Simulation game by nature easily classifies as a niche market..
More so submarine simulation.
I’m so glad you started this series. I have trouble sleeping and your submarine series usually help a lot. The entertainment combined with the calm voice is magical :D
Something about this whole thing just calms me down. It's a real retreat when things get stressful
One of the things I loved about your IL2 campaign as the soviets was that it is so much more interesting when you're the underdog. In sims it can be quite easy to be impossibly successful and it can make the result of an episode a forgone conclusion. But when you every episode has a near-death experience it's much more interesting to tune in!
And who really _wants_ to do well as the Nazis?
My experience with Dot Mod:
1. Diesels don't face Nuclear subs. Upgrade to the Foxtrot and may be Juliet and you will be fine.
2. Avoid switching to a Nuclear sub until you get one with wire guided torpedoes. Victor III is the earliest and cheapest I think.
Nuclear subs without wired torpedoes are dead the moment they see a MK48. SET-65 has very little chance of hitting a 30+ kn sub even if you do get that close.
A Charlie 1 career is very fun until you meet an enemy sub.
3. Your best bet with SET-65 against subs is to get close, 2-3 km, and launch two circle running torpedoes at the enemy sub's expected point of interception.
If you get into the baffles, you may be able to send a passive SET-65 in their ass. Unlike vanilla they will not detect it if it is passive and in their baffles.
4. SET-65 and the TEST-71 (Note the lack of an M, only on the Tango last time I played) can't hit surface targets, you need the wake homing ones for that.
Test-71M (note the M) can hit both subs and surface ships and has decent range. If you get a sub with it, it is a lot like the US submarines.
5. For Juliet and Echo you need to be at 3 meters or above to launch missiles. The best way to do that is to:
1. Go to periscope depth.
2. Hit maximum speed, maximum planes and maximum balast.
3. Raise Radar, launch missiles and crash dive.
If you set the depth to 0 it takes forever for the sub to go above 3 meters so don't use it. The escorts WILL shoot Harpoons at you and they can hit you.
6. Carry several decoys. Try to avoid encounters that are not your primary target as much as possible. Sneak away from subs if able. You just don't have the ammo to get them all. Until you get the TEST-71M at least.
Diesels DO face nukes. You can read his next mission description for example, I also got SSN fight on my second mission once. SpecOps intercept with 2 SSNs at once can be rolled on ANY SS/SSK as well. Also, I completed the entire campagn on SS/SSK once, without resets and death, and there were plenty of SSN intercepts, even in the early days.
And because UK nukes are super rare, it means at least 2-4 Mk.48 coming your way on the wires, because they WILL detect you from 5-8 ky or so on passive if conditions are not 90+dB, with strong layer, even if you are going ultra quiet on Foxtrot.
This is why anything that can move faster than 15 kts is essential since war day 1. Even if it is a November, pick it unless you are like 20 points short of Victor I. Charlie I is also decent but I dont like its top speed.
Force them to wire break, evade guidance cone of the incoming Mk.48s, push closer to spam even more SET-65-III and are you are golden.
@@stallfighter Yeah, that was old information. I guess they changed it the last few months. Previously only nukes faced nukes.
I managed to reroute one Mk 48 back to sender with a Julliet, but no luck with SET-65s. They just loose the trail after the first noisemaker.
@@tarkalak you are using newest DM version? It changed CM mechanics from "magnet" to "guidance disruption" instead, which helps low-end torps a lot (and no, SET-65-III is not, in fact, "low end torp", it is NT-37 and Tiger -trash- fish)
Great episode. Just an FYI, a noisemaker is a canister of compressed air that attempts to fool a torpedo by jamming the seeker head at close range. What you launched is called a decoy, which swims away and makes noises just like a submarine, but louder than your boat. Good luck!
Thanks! I keep using the terms interchangeably. I'll work on it.
Can't wait to watch this new series and absolutely digging the 80's VHS effects with the tracking static and rolling picture!
So what exactly was the plan for Whiskey boats by the mid/late cold war? I get the impression that they hoped to hold them in reserve and if the war lasted more than a month or so, enough enemy subs would be killed that the waters become relatively safe. The other option would be wolf packs where one goes active and is bait while the others shoot.
By the mid 80's the Soviet navy had already gotten rid of most of its Whiskeys. A bunch were sold to friendly nations and most of the older ones had been scrapped. Whatever was left was converted to do just about any job that was available, training vessels, missile test platforms, radar pickets, and even research subs to study fisheries. If war had broken out by that point I expect they'd only be deployed in a SHTF last ditch scenario or just regulated to coastal defense duties.
@@Klyis Thank you! This was the sort of reply I was hoping for. Most sources mention the guided missile/radar versions of the early 50s, but not what happened in later life.
I had friends in the RN Submarine Service who said they could sit in Holy Loch and hear Whiskeys leaving the Kola Inlet...they were exaggerating but not by much
SPETNAZ insertion and as a sort of decoy force, where they attracted the attention of escorts and more capable subs would go in and attack is another mission they would be on. They wouldn't attack as it would of been suicidal to do.
@@jamesmaclennan4525 It's surprising what you can hear . If conditions are right . A British submarine leaving the Portsmouth going down the Solent picked up the sound of the propellers of the liner Queen Elizabeth as she left New York. This was an extreme case , but it does happen .
damm i love Cold waters, the suspense is amazing, too bad the developers stopped updating it, would def support them if they continued this
Excited to see where this campaign leads, Maybe if you do well enough we get Akula career part 2?
I already love this series and it has not even been a minute.
Thanks!
Anything wolfpack345 and submarine related brings me joy! I ran out of old sh3 videos months ago. I literally bought Coldwaters because of your videos. Cheers to a new series!
This is so cool! Thank you for your awesome videos!
I get a feeling this series might not be a long one.
Lol yeahhh
@@Wolfpack345 If anyone can survive that tub of a sub it's you.
Been going through your old playlists, as a newer subscriber, and just finished a few of your Cold Water campaigns so this was a pleasant surprise! Crazy how different you play the WW2 and late 20th century era subs.
Great videos man - Look forward to the next!
YES! I definitely look forward for another Cold Waters series. This game doesn't have extremely high demand on the PC hardware. The dream will be looking at the South China Sea campaign soon. That campaign is definitely a lot more challenging than the other two. Keep up the good work !
You definitely earned a lot of Prestige by continuing Cold Waters.
I have watched your Cold Waters seires several times and always wondered what a WWII-type sub would be like in CW. And long behold here is your video. I love it so much. Keep it up Captain!
Still missing more of your U-boat series but I enjoyed this episode as well.
I love the grainy 80s video effect. So immersive
Your last cold waters series was one of my favourites. Thanks for uploading another one!
Yet another outstanding start to a Wolfpack345 campaign series! You are criminally underappreciated, sir. Here is hoping this one pushes you to 100K subscribers.
Dude I really like the VHS "artifact" blur-edits. Badass.
In a whiskey, you truly know what it means to be ‘Crazy Ivan’
My dog passed away on December 22nd. Wolfpacks channel helped me get through a dark and painful time by giving me a welcome distraction. Love this channel. Thank you sir.
I am sorry to hear that. Loosing a friend like that is not easy. I am glad the channel could at least be a distraction.
The Cold Water series is bad ass.........Keep them coming
Damn, using a thirty year old boat and being successful is a major flex.
Always happy to see more Cold Waters content. Loving the VHS video effects!
Fantastic at last, been missing this. Cool mod for Cold Waters comrade Kaptain Wolfpack.
New career! Excellent news, for all of us who enjoy your subsim playthroughs.
I’ve literally been waiting for this for like a year…
When commanding the Whiskey-class, make sure you have your shittin' pants on.
Oh, fun bit of trivia. Was looking up this specific boat, and the S-80 sank in January 1961 with the loss of all hands, then got rediscovered and raised in 1969. Guessing part of this alternate history is the S-80 being fixed up and returned to service, eh?
Can’t believe this channel isn’t waaay bigger!
Nice touch on the Old TV look of some of those shots!
It's been a while for CW. Glad it's back!
I'm digging this series I love the idea of progression for your subs
Love a new series on Cold Waters! Can’t wait to see how well you do!
Oh! A fellow bojler! Greetings!
I could watch a bunch of these back to back. they are terrific
Yay. First time catching a new vid an hour after uploading cant wait for it.
A Whiskey class.......... You mean that old sub you used for target practice back in the 688! An upgrade is definitely in order.
Old HARPOON player here.
Damn has sub gaming come a long way!
Nice job Wolfpack. A small tip I remember from Cap'n Jive is that changes in depth/speed/direction should be done 1 at a time if possible, 2 at a time at max, and never 3 as far as detectability and noise go.
Dude i love your series of cold waters especially with USSR!! Please win this time and bring glory for Motherland!! ;)))
Well thanks Wolfpack I didn't know you cared! Another reason why I'm subscribed, your commitment to your fans is truly appreciated!
While I truly love every video put out...am I the only one here who checks his channel to see WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO THE GAR!?!?! The suspense is literally killing me! Anyways, great video as always pack! Keep them coming!
Two hits from long range and bringing the Whisky back isn't a bad outcome. Torpedoes are cheaper than ships!
+1
I keep coming back to these cold waters series, such cool story arks/gameplay for you wolf. Thank you for the content that I watch time and time again.
IM GONNA FART!!! OH GOD!!!!
Literally just got done with your Cold Waters Skipjack campaign yesterday! Perfect timing!
This is basically the plot of 'Down Periscope'
Finally a more cold waters, thankyou sir.
I can already feel the pain in you for using a Whiskey in '84...
Wow back to Cold Waters! Excited to watch.
Finally!!!! one of my favorite games is now playing by my Favorite CZcamsr☺ keep it up Wolfpack345 !!!! hope you upload a video more frequently✌😊😅
That boat is scary bad! Good luck on patrol #2!
Lol , when you suggested you would rearm at the base , prove me wrong and get home alive .
The crazy Ivan clears the baffles by running the sub into its own baffles
Glad your back with a new series.
I’m excited for these videos. Your channel is perfect for when I’m cooking and eating dinner, I just play your videos while I cook. Super relaxing
thank you for doing a cold waters vid i was going to ask for one of this vids but you deliverd thank you.
I'm going to have to re-download this game. This mod seems to give it just the extra needed to spice it up from vanilla. Thanks @Wolfpack345 for another great vid
Cold Water campaign! Let's go boys!!
Nice! I always enjoy the cold waters series.
Damn Wolfpack for helping his Soviet cohorts send tanks to my hometown of Oulu, Finland.
I loved the intro edit with the VHS tracking...I had a 1990 feeling
You - are - NUTS. A WWII sub in 1984. Damn - ok, why not - let's see how long you last.
(you're one of the few I think that has the skill to last more than 3 missions)
I always wanted to see a Whiskey in some kind of campaign, although I would had hoped for a 1968 campaign...
Those mark 37s would have actually given you a decently fair chance to survive!
In that campaign I got jumpscared in foxtrot by an OHP right behind me, so I point blanked it at .25 km with a stern torpedo
Excellent job. Very tense at times.
Wolfpack playing Dot Mod Finally!!! My prayers have been heard!!! :) This is going to be awesome!!!
Love the Soviet cold water mod videos, keep it up!
I love the Red October style opening. Loved that movie
I enjoy you submarine content so very much. Glad to see you pick up Cold Waters & the DotMod which I enjoyed to a high degree as well.
Hmmm, sounds like that'll be 637s and 688s carrying Harpoons- fun times coming!
I love it ,at first nit very impressive with the poor sub that you have but when i heard that you can change it that is a whole new story i lobe itttttt
This looks like the beginnings of a really interesting campaign. I don't think I've ever found a video of someone taking one of these relics out on patrol, I'm looking forward to seeing how this one plays out.
Good luck Comrade!
Heck yeah this should be a good series.
Really digging the VHS effects!
binged all of the cold waters videos. feels so good to see another upcoming series.
Cold War submarines? Say no more fam, I'm watching every episode of this.
WolfPack! Lets Go! Saw this pop up on my feed and I seriously got excited. Its gonna be a good series. I can't wait for you to get back to Silent Hunter 3 but, this will hold me over.
oooh yes a new Cold Waters campaign
Look forward to the next episode! 👍
