What Happened After the Black Death Ended

  • The Black Death devastated Europe, claiming 25 million lives and up to 80% of the population in some cities. Survivors of the plague, which lasted from approximately 1347-1353, struggled with skyrocketing food prices, psychological torment, and survivor guilt. Even Renaissance scholar Petrarch wished he was never born.
In spite of the many tragedies it caused, the Black Death also had ripple effects that improved conditions in Europe in its aftermath. The awful time period didn't only galvanize pub culture, it transformed Europe's feudal society, spurring the 14th-century Renaissance in Italy and shifting wealth from the aristocracy to workers and peasants.

The Black Death plague is the reason I was able to trace my ancestry back to the end of it. Shortly after it had blown through Europe, the Bishop in the part of Germany my mum's ancestors come from granted/sold a farm to one of my ancestors. That deed of ownership was the reason I could find out as much as I did about our past (the farm is still held by a different branch of the family, still bears the family name of my grandmother). I couldn't imagine trying to live through the plague, when so many of the people you knew, died so quickly.

It is amazing how a moment in time can do to change the entire situation for generations. I have an ancestor that crossed the English Channel to invade England with William the Conquerer. From then on my family was traceable due to the title granted that Normand knight. I have found legal documents that told me of a lot of interesting things. I learned why my grandmother and her sisters were so "upety", to be blue collar mill workers. The importance of maintaining the image of regal dignity and always looking as if one were completely in control meant the difference in life and death for our ancestors. Appearing weak encourages those seeking to overthrow one's position. After 600+ year of power and position, the "stiff upper lip" had been pretty well bred into the family. Even after coming to the colonies, they just kept those traits trained into the children. Even as my grandfather was at the funeral home, grandmother was very concerned about making certain NO ONE did ANYTHING that would be embarrassing. She lined us up outside to talk to us and give us all a last look over. She was like Patton reviewing the troops 🤣. I didn't understand her and my great aunts, until I did our family tree. 😄 that's pretty much all gone now. Most of my cousins weren't raised that way. There's very little of that old world stiff upper lip nobility left in the family now, but I'm glad to have an explanation for it. Someone lonh ago takes a chance and EVERYTHING is different from then on. I'm glad you have the farm purchase to allow you to trace your line.

The economic impact of the plague on Europe was huge - basically it started the transformation from a static agricultural economy to a slightly more dynamic urban economy. Serfs, who had previously been tied to the land owner, now had other land owners competing for them, and willing to offer wages not serfdom. They often moved to towns where they were free. This increased demand for nonfood goods, which increased wages, and demand for workers, and then wages. It transferred power from the old landowning elite to urban business owners, the new capitalists. It took several centuries for the results to work through economies but the extreme deaths caused by the waves of Plagues were one of the key reasons why Europe industrialised and the rest of the world didn’t.
The plagues had far less impact on sparsely populated areas like Russia and there serfdom lasted until the 18th C, and longer. This severely limited their economic and social development.
The current Covid crisis in extremely minor in comparison in terms of deaths, but the resultant social changes may prove huge.

From what I've heard, "modern medicine" mostly involves so-called "doctors" giving out prescriptions for medications that relieve the symptoms of sicknesses, but do nothing about what actually causes them.
To make matters worse, many of these "meds" contain toxic chemicals that can make people sicker than before, and might even shorten their lives. Yet, the doctors keep pushing these medications on everyone because it's profitable for the big business pharmaceutical companies, or "Big Pharma," as some people call them.
This is the result of how medical schools never teach their students about the true nature and causes of diseases, or about proper nutrition.
Just as a real estate agent's motto is "Location, location, location," a supposedly "modern" doctor's motto is "Prescripe, prescripe, prescripe."
It's no wonder a lot of folks are turning to natural medicines or holistic cures.

That's what makes you better. Sure, drugs may have toxic chemicals in them, but so do foods. Medicines are balanced by experts so that they don't harm you, or so that if they do, they do more good than harm. Medicine has improved drastically, it could be so much worse than it is now and still have improved. There's a reason the bubonic plague isn't a problem anymore, and that's modern medicine. Frankly Wuhan Hu 1, the correct name for covid-19, is so mild that it won't have much impact at all. The real impact will come from the games we played with long-term unemployment and simple payments the population. These payments have shown that people who are paid just to exist choose not to work, which is why we're currently suffering from worker shortages in a lot of businesses.
Universal basic income is a terrible idea. It will only result in inflation and an explosion of the parasite class.
The good news for those of us who choose to continue working, is that wages are going up because of the labor shortage. Now we simply need to cut off payments to all these otherwise able-bodied people who should be working.
Ashford social upheaval, it's made it very clear that bored immature people that you pay not to work can get up to a lot of mischief. The Democrat party's latest terrorist Wings BLM and antifa are doing a lot of damage to many cities. The good news about that is it a lot of population seem to be realizing that these people are worthless and they will stop supporting them.

The problem is that this pandemic has showed that people know their worth. They have tasted what it’s like to work from home, start a business and not having to answer to a boss. And they love it. I have not rebuttal on the Universal income plan but regardless of who is in office it will never pass because politicians will say anything to get elected but only do the bidding of corporations. Kind of. The ruling class has always existed in every facet of history and has continued to seek to ensure their power goes unabated. Like in the USA, we sort of have a nobility class going on when you think about it (The Walton Family (Walmart), the Musk family, the Clinton family, the Trump family, the Dupont family, the film industry, Bezos, the media, etc.) and all sort of wanted to keep the peasants working in order to ensure their continued wealth and power gains.
Now we are seeing a demand for higher wages and companies and many states don't want to pay their workers more so they are either pretending the pandemic doesn't exist, or enacting laws that push workers to get jobs immediately cutting off their unemployment benefits if they don't, or crushing unions like they are doing in Alabama against the coal miners, or the unionization attempts in Walmart and Fritos.
History has changed for the better, but the ruling class and nobility have always sought to stifle any change in wealth and power.

The last time we did this was over 100 years ago; since then we bin busy with a few world wars, a decade of depression where not one nation in the world made a profit, and the technological changes brought on by the silicon chip .. oh and we went to the moon; scared ourselves silly with the atom bomb and there was The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the rise of heavy metal. Excuse us if we couldn't fit in something we actually solved at the time.
Actually, it was mostly hidden because nations didn't want to be seen as vulnerable in war. Only Spain regularly mentioned it in their news. Yes we are forgetful; but we got lots else to be going on with.
And we didn't need history to solve this current problem because science/medical expertise that is new and innovative and _not 100 years old_ is what is saving us now.

I notice that they keep talking about the rich or the ruling class working so hard to keep the status quo. They fail to mention that at the time the Catholic church was one of the biggest land owners in England. The church collected payment from surf's to work their land
