A Day In the Life Living With the Plague

- The Black Death was the plague that changed the world. As the most profound epidemic in human history, the plague claimed the lives of millions, with nearly half of Europe's population perishing from the disease. Some feared they were living through the apocalypse amidst the chaotic upheaval, while others turned to sinful pleasure during the plague to distract from the horror. And as for what happened to victims of the plague, well, it wasn't opportune.

I love how these people could read stars like map and predict when comets would appear, but they thought the plague was caused by bad smells.
Manneaux I’m sure they’ll say the same about us in the future too. “I love how these people could go into space and study theoretical physics and black holes but still thought religion was credible”
Well, I get what you're saying, but in all fairness, the first microscope wasn't invented until the 1660's, but it wasn't until the mid to late 1800's that doctors understood that those little creatures they were looking at carried disease. The 'miasma' theory was accepted for a bit more than 500 years after the 14th cent. plague outbreak. Viruses weren't discovered until the mid to late 1800's as well, and not visible until the invention of the electron microscope. One wonders what people 700 years from now will think, as they look back at our medical practices (along with a host of other behaviors and beliefs), and question how we could be so smart about some things, and totally clueless about others. Reading the stars was simple, by contrast, as they were more or less stable and/or reliable objects, and that could be seen.
@@awevasveavasevae8072 RIGHT?
They saw that clean places didn't smell bad, so that's a start
@@awevasveavasevae8072 ok atheist
Don’t be so smug because you feel so much smarter than the people in the middle ages. After all, they thought the plague was caused by a bad smell, and a large number of us think that vaccinations cause autism.
@Doctor Remulak How would a man live in a giant ball of cheese? People are crazy yo.
There is nowhere near a "large number of us" that actually think that, it's a small stupid minority that got way too much media attention. The media isnt the only one blowing up the anti vaccination ordeal, it's also people like you that are part of the problem. The same exact thing goes for the flat earthers, especially outside of America cuz believe it or not...it's not the only place on Earth.
[TK] Nemesis Given that I’m obviously not overly bright, please kindly explain how I’m “part of the problem.” Also, where did I say that the U.S. was the “only place on earth?”
He was not being smug though.
@@andrewquint7962 sorry if it was a bit too aggressive, in hindsight i probably shouldnt have phrased it that way. What I was basically trying to say is this: anyone that even gives these anti vax people/flat earthers any attention makes them....get more attention which is what they really want, theyre like activists pushing a ridiculous idea they somehow believe in. The best way to handle these people would be to just ignore them as even after being shown evidence and such, some of them just disregard it and keep continuing to spout nonsense propaganda backed by nothing. As for the american part, the most anti vaxers and flat earthers are based in america, the rest of the "1st world" has way less people that believe in all that, so you saying that "a large number of us think that vaccinations cause autism" might be true for some underdeveloped states (and even then its a very small percentage) but not for the rest of america, let alone the rest of the world.

Please do a video on Yellow Fever. It is one of my favorite historical mass deaths from medical reasons, and it is largely ignored, despite wiping out so many people! Thank you
Poot YES!!!
Hell yellow fever is the reason Florida's capital is Tallahassee. It was originally supposed to be pt st joe and Tallahassee was just an abandoned village where officials from east and west florida would sometimes meet. Tallahassee means "old rancid tribal town". It was an empty ruin. Port saint joe was nearby but it was an actual settlement worthy of being a capital city near enough that east and west florida could meet. It got hit with a bad yellow fever outbreak that killed most of the inhabitants. The outbreaks kept coming over and over again until the town was reduced to basically nothing. It wasnt until air conditioning was invented (in pt st joe btw) that the area became inhabitable long term. Pt st joe still exists but it will never be what it couldve been.
Your favorite historical mass death. 🤣
Are we in the “screw it” phase of coronavirus yet?

Doesn’t work like that...
We are now, the "screw it" phase and starting into the mass protests over the authoritarian decrees issued by the various governments under the guise of "protecting people" from a minor disease with a 99.97% survival rate. But the mass hysteria is still going strong with some people, they will likely wear masks for the rest of their lives, like little facial comfort blankets.
What I would love to see you cover is the Great Airship Mystery. End of the 19th century and started up around Sacramento. You would do a great job on that subject based on everything i have already seen. Great stuff.
