Make practice ones out of scrap/cheap fabric until you get it right. No harm in a little bit of scraps used if it doesn't come out well. Practice making it a few times first.
Excited to have happened onto this video! I'm currently working on a mid 1800's corset too, but I'm using a Truly Victorian pattern. Fear and terror are my main experiences currently haha.

This really is a lovely corset. You may know about this trick now, but it helps if you wax the thread before stitching as it strengthens and helps prevent snagging of the thread. You can also use Thread Magic if you are a beader as well. Your whip stitch is lovely and even by the way. I look forward to seeing the rest of your makes.

Yeah I don't use flat steel for corsets anymore now haha. Only around the eyelets in the back. I now usually use spiral steel mostly. Or plastic for stays
I can't find them either, I'm afraid. When working from books like this, I recommend checking out Morgan Donner's video on how to scale up a pattern using your home printer. Also look at Bernadette Banner's videos on how she uses Janet Arnold patterns as this is the same concept.
I'm using the exact same pattern and followed the guidance of the video you linked for making the waist bigger. How did you find where the waistline was? It's not marked on the pattern and I see you marking it here. Did you just do it by eye?
Yeah I kinda did it by eye. I looked at pictures of where 1860s corsets usually sat at the bust and measured down to my waist from that bust point. I checked where that was on the pattern and it seemed pretty alright.
Agreed! I live in the Netherlands as well and am on my way of learning Dutch. Glad to see some Dutch costuming enthusiasts when usually everyone is from the far away US or UK

I have the same sewing machine! Never seen anyone else with that turquoise Husqvarna so got really excited by it!

They're called bias tape makers! :) You can get them in several sizes. I highly recommend them, they're soooo handy

I did put a waist tape in, just forgot to film it. Sometimes I'm really busy and in the zone and just completely forget to film stuff 😂
