@@Huchhhh kid's a beast
Welcome to Montreal David Reinbacher! You will be a great DMan in a Habs uniform!
Not gonna lie, I feel better after watching this video 😂
I credit this channel to my improvemnt
Me too... until I realized the best highlights in this videos were all Seider's.
I don’t
After watching this report, I think this 5th overall pick makes much more sense than what most of us Habs fans think.
As a project, Reinbacher is right up the Habs coaching staff's alley.
Reinbacher ticks many boxes:
- Hockey sense, mostly
- Skill
- Skating, to some extent
- Size, mostly
- Position (RHD)
His breakout capabilities and his micro-positioning (use of body and stick) are what stick out the most in the clips shown in the video. His transition game as well as his skating speed are most likely what interested the Habs most, as it lines up with their philosophy of a fast play style. Then, there's the skill portion and some flashes of elite hockey sense that must have interested coach Marty a lot. Finally, his humble but confident attitude must have sealed the deal for the Habs scouting team.
Some criticism regarding Reinbacher:
- Could be somewhat better off the puck
--- During the last season, coach Marty kept on talking about how hockey is mostly played without the puck. Most of our young players have shown improvement in that aspect throughout the season. This is a weakness that can be corrected, and we probably have the best guy for this job.
- Skating could be somewhat better
--- Skating can be worked on as shown by pretty much everyone.
- Could most definitely be a bit more creative
--- Creativity is one of these things that can't necessarily be taught. However, there are many workarounds to creativity, such as being the studious type and literally memorizing a user manual of all existing hockey manoeuvres, if that makes any sense. Maybe because of said lack of creativity, Reinbacher would flourish better in a rigid system, but with his skill set, it would be such a waste.
Overall, Reinbacher looks like a prospect with elite upside who fits with the Habs' play style, and whose issues can most likely be fixed by our development team.
Agreed. Except about the creativity part. It's possible that the system in his team keeps him from trying risky plays too much.
@@uwplaylist very true, Swiss teams are rather conservative usually.
@@l.a.w.5738 I have read similar remarks about the Swiss league..

Don’t worry the real habs fans are with this pick. A top 5 in a offensive stacked draft just explains everthing
Very audicious habs picking him 5th overall. But understand why, he has a lot of potential. Hopefully we can develop him well.
Lane Hutson can teach him a trick or two

Ok! Now I understand the choice by Montreal... I have to admit I thought we had enough D so Mitchkov was my choice
Amazing video, production quality is always great from the EP team.
Thank you!
Love how all the Habs fans are here getting some reassurance ;) Kinda needed it myself, thanks for this :)
Interesting way you ended your video with a team taking a swing and dreaming big. Now that the Habs have selected him I'm hearing from disgruntled fans that he is a safe pick with a medium ceiling. Nice analysis. I hope he develops into the best version of himself!
Welcome to Montreal, David !
The Habs keep adding on size and also a player who'll be able to play physically but not lose any playing abilities. Another solid player with a solid foundation to add on to !
Considering he is only 18 yrs. Old..!!! Playing against MEN ..!! He looks very confident out there..!! A few years of development under HABS coaching ..and he should be fine .!! Welcome to Montreal David..!! 😊
Kent Hughes brought me here
This is excellent David. More excited about the opportunity of him with the habs.
Thank you!

Welcome to Montreal David David!
This guy could go very high if teams value Best Player Available over positional need given the amount of higher-end centers this draft. He's very good. Right-handed elite defenseman are also a premium by some folk's standards
I think the exact opposite of what you believe. He will likely go very high because teams will value positional need rather than best available player. I don't think he is better than Michkov or Will Smith or a few others but I can see Reinbacher possibly going higher than them just based on team need. Michkov especially might drop.
@@AlexAnteroLammikko both takes are pretty spot on well played!
The only reason it's such a "controversial" pick is because Radenbacher is in an Swiss league barely anyone knows/cares about while all high drafts picks are chl, ushl/college, SweHL, KHL. From what I'm seeing his skating and puck handling is the most impressive as a defenseman his size.
NA's don't care/know. Europeans do. Matthews was playing in Switzerland as well before his Draft. The Swiss League has the second highest avg. attendance in the world after the NHL and is the league where the most money is spend in Europe besides KHL. So the league is pretty competitive and packed with talents. Problem is that this has a negative impact on the youth because they barely get a spot in the roster at a young age. Therefore a lot of young swiss players go to play in Sweden to compete with older guys. And that's why Reinbacher is an exception and you usually don't hear about players being draftet out of the swiss league.
Ehmm... Last year Simon Nemec was picked second overal and he played in Slovakia. Pretty sure Swiss League is watched more.
@@jozefmasny8349 Not in NA. Slovaks have a better reputation in NA than Swiss guys. Especially when it comes to drafting young player. As you mentioned, Nemec was drafted out of the Slovakian league. So was Satan, Tatar, Panik and many more Slovaks. Out of currently 12 active Swiss NHL Players, only 5 were drafted out of the swiss league.
@@Turicum But Swiss league has way more quality. It just doesn't give so many chances to juniors. 4 Swiss teams play in European Champions Hockey League and they always compete for semifinals or so. Meanwhile, there is only one Slovak team that almost always end up losing every game in a group stage. Swiss League is massively underrated. Maybe 4th best European after Russian, Swedish, Finnish.
Welcome to the cope fellow Montreal fans
I don't see how you rate Seider's skating as a 7 yet Reinbacher's a 6. Reinbacher's stride is less awkward than Seider's at the same age. There doesn't seem to be a discrepancy in straight-line speed either.
Awesome video!!!! Thanks
Thank you!
Keep up the good work David we believe in you GO HABS GO 💕💕💕
Merci David pour le contenu!!!
Keeping on the high-risk / high-reward track, with D-men, I have been looking a little deeper at the guys who may not be defensive studs, but have offensive numbers rocketing off the stats sheets. In particular, the 2 guys I was looking at were: Étienne Morin, Moncton Wildcats, and Lukas Dragicevic, Tri-City Americans. What are the feelings about either? Cheers!
He will be better than Subban so that's a good start. Subban only won Norris cause of the players injuries and luck and black liberal bias for publicity. Subban tried to be flashy missing the net more than any other player statistically 1.1% accuracy shot and lost the puck and could not defend well even often missing hits.
@@MarcoCharetteOfficialMusic I ALWAYS thought that Subban should have been moved to power-wing; he was terrible defensively, throughout his career, but a gifted skater, with a great shot, and strength on his blades. He3 should have played forward; wasted away retiring all too early because of it, on D.
Nice dude!
Welcome to Montreal.
Good smart defenceman for Mtl in my opinion along with the other good prospect they have at the D line
Welcome to Montreal
My dark horse pick for Detroit. Even if Wallinder has experience as a LHD playing RHD Detroit could use a true RHD on their second line pairing with Edvinsson.
I suspect several teams from picks 4 through 8 are HEAVILY scouting Reinbacher as they do not want to miss out on this chance to add him.
This post looks a lot better now that Detroit slid to 9th in the draft. Just can't ignore Detroits glaring lack of center skill
@@pwvincil Washington should heavily be scouting Reinbacher, as 6'2" RHD do not grow on trees, and they have a glaring need there with their aging defense. This result could free up Dvorsky or Oliver Moore falling to Detroit.
I think if Benson and Smith are off the board, Reinbacher and Moore will be the 2 guys Philly will be debating for that 7/8 spot.
Great video as always!
Thank you :)
Blues fan, I'm hoping this dude is available at 10th overall, not going to lie tho, I cld see him in Philly tearing it up
Yeah. And id add Leonard to that group as well. We should have taken Jiricek last year and then can grab a center in this draft between Smith or Moore. Instead we may reach on Reinbacher b/c we are so terrible at RHD.
@@alessandroscuderi7300 I just watched a video on that dude, agreed. Such a deep draft this year! Can't wait to see these players in the nhl!
PHI is either taking Michkov or Leonard if available. Could see them grabbing Reinbacher if they can add another pick. They were after the Blue's 1st until Krug nixed that trade.
Thanks, great video. Are there any other D that could challenge Reinbacher for top-10? I have to say watching this made me feel a lot better about losing the lottery and dropping back to 6th or 7th. Adding a player of his promise to the Habs D prospects, especially on the right side where they are lacking isn't so bad!
Sandin-Pellikka. He was Sweden's powerplay quarterback and best defenseman at the last world juniors
@@MasterMatt25 He was nowhere near being best D man last juniors. Svozil and Jiříček are air I guess. But Sandin-Pelikka is second best D man in this draft and could challenge Reinbacher for first spot.
@@krystofhavir7593 you’re correct I missed a word in my post. I meant for Sweden, he was their best dman
Well you can read the future now he is a habs prospect
His skating posture reminds me of Larry Robinson, long legs, but quite shifty for his size.
Guhle, xhekaj, Harris, lane Hutson, Mailloux, tourigny, reinbacher (wonder how are they going to manage that) - it’s a lot of talent
Tourigny? Doubt he ever gets even a game in the NHL. But you can add Justin Barron, Adam Engstrom, Jayden Struble and William Trudeau to an already impressive list of prospects 😉
This is true, but man do I like watching Tanner Molendyk skate, it’s so smooth

@@user-ci9vv6mj6v Seider is the only righty on that list, He plays in the NHL in 2 years after Mattaa's contract is over? Or they trade someone? Really not that hard to figure out.

Tonight man, we will see where reinbacher goes, if he is available, at 9 you said you guys are taking him, I have seen him as high as 5 but I don't know abt that, good luck w the draft wingsbro
welcome to montréal David !
Wings have two first rounders. I wouldn’t mind Stevie grabbing this kid with his second pick if he’s somehow still there. I’ll take another Seider all day 😂
Blues fan, we have 3 1st rounders, I hope he is available at 10th, super deep draft tho man, good luck! Wings are my east team being that they have 1/4th of the blues stanley cup team on their roster lol that being said the comparisons to seider are awesome, I wld take that on my team any day! Also walman being a top pairing dman in Detroit makes me happy. I don't think walman would have developed to be as good as he is in st louis d system. Our d has been garbage this year
No way he's going to be there at the Islanders pick. Yzerman gonna take him with the 1st pick, unless maybe one of the premium centers or michkov falls.
You'd be lucky to get him with the wings first pick.
@@artemisgray9463 True, I think it's 50/50 or he will go right before they pick. This is my Red Wings top 9 picks, they really need another right handed forward/center or right handed D. There is some other players who will be picked ahead of these guys so I'm hoping Reinbacher or one of the top centers will be there. Axel Sandin looks like an amazing skater and puck mover though, if he was a few inches taller I think he would be top 3 or 5 for sure.
1Bedard
2Fantilli
3Carlsson
4Mitchkov
5Will Smith
6Brayden Yager
7Ryan Leonard
8David Reinbacher
9Axel Sandin
@@danb239 Cool list. For my money, people are sleeping on Benson. Not saying he will be, but he has the potential to be the second best skater in the draft. I think Will Smith is overrated. I watched Yager a while ago and I don't think he gets enough credit for his motor. He's going to be a solid NHLer whether anyone likes it or not, lol.
Thank you so much for this video! I've been patiently waiting for this one to hear your thoughts on Reinbacher's ceiling. If he does go Top 10, which if he did, I know it would be more than likely in the 6-10 range.
My question is, who do you think would be the best team to pick him in that range in terms of being able to develop his complete game? I assume you would say Detroit considering their success with Seider, and that would be absolutely insane for them to have Seider as a Top Pairing and Reinbacher as a Top 4. Is their a chance Montreal picks him up early? Also, do you think it's a possibility for him to fall into the 11-15 or even 16-20 range?
As always, I love your videos, and I hope to see another one detailing Sandin-Pellikka as I saw he was doing insanely well defensively based on the charts you showed comparing Reinbacher and Seider in their draft years.
Thank you again for the exhaustive in-depth analysis!
I would have to verify this with numbers, but I think Washington has the right approach with their defensive prospects. Detroit already has the blueprint. Montreal needs a D like him, but at 5-6, they may want to target a high-upside forward. Any team that takes a patient approach with him and works with him to develop his activation timing, puck-moving, and rotations.
@David St-Louis I could see Washington grabbing him and using Carlson to mentor him into their next great defenseman. I was thinking the same regarding Montreal as they are desperately in need of forward depth. If he falls to Detroit, if Detroit stays around the bottom of the Top 10, I can't see Yzerman passing him up unless he knows something everyone else doesn't, which is often the case with Yzerman.
I think the Canucks scoop him up would help build a defensive core around him, Hughes and Horonek. Plus OEL might be a good mentor because at 10% of the cap he must have some off ice value.

This is practically a Why The Habs Drafted This Player video. It makes a lot of sense, seeing as the Habs are so focused on professional development and Reinbacher clearly has a lot of untapped potential. They have a serious need for someone to play RHD on the top pairing when they are a playoff team again. This could be that player.
Hi David, would like to know your hidden gems for this draft, guys in the later round that can become big with time and development.
Timur Mukhanov, Alexander Rykov, Matthew Mania, William Whitelaw, Joseph Willis, Felix Nilsson, Aydar Suniev, Luke Coughlin, Anton Wahlberg... We ranked all of these guys at the last meeting, so they are not exactly hidden, but as I'm in charge of crossover viewings on A and B prospects for the most part, I'm not the best person to give you the real hidden prospects.
We did Philly a solid by passing up on Michkov!!! They should give us Travis Konecny on a discount 😂😂😂
I know Arizona wanted Reinbacher!!! So they could replace Jakob Chychrun.
P.S... I heard that Michkov Could be playing for Philly, as soon as next year!!!! Is that true or no?
As a Habs fan
Are you happy with our 5th overall pick? Or would you have took Michkov?!!
I think I would have had to take Michkov. He could turn out to be the next big thing!
But that being said... we got the best Defenseman in this years draft. Which was a draft of lotssss of talented player's.
In the end... Reinbacher will be a great fit with the players we have right now!
I'm happy with the pick!
But, I was very shocked at the moment of time!!!!
Classic SJ Sharks move would be to reach for him with the #4 pick when there’s all these talented forwards in this year’s draft.
Would love it as a Habs fan, Carlsson at 5th 😍
@@n3g802 I’m a Sharks fan. Crazy moves on draft day are all I know 😎
They might also trade down to a team like Arizona with multiple 1st rd picks and hope he’s available. Then trade down again if he’s not (they actually did this last year).
It was the HABS…. Arghh
@@gabrielfaubert my condolences. Reinbacher seems like a very safe pick. But top 5?? That was the biggest surprise of the draft for me.
Why if Habs don't pick him Arizona was 100% drafting him 😅
The more I see of Reinbacher, but more I think maybe, just maybe he'll be drafted by the Penguins at #14. The Pens system is completely barren of any sort of impact player (Pickering and Murashov prob being the only 2 who have the potential) so position will be the last of the Penguins concerns when drafting (Best Player Available). Add that with the fact that Reinbacher is prob the closest prospect to being NHL ready and the Pens wanting to cash in while the core is still around, it just makes sense. Plus, having Reinbacher eventually being around Kris Letang...will only make the mantle passing of PP QB even sweeter.
Mtl took him at 5
Some might argue that habs reached for him, but he would never have dropped to #14 idk what you were thinking writing this😊

Bruh this guy doesn’t have the upside to go that high.
@@johnbannan6043 he’s putting up considerably higher production than Josi did in the same league in his draft year, along with being great in transition and has a solid frame. He absolutely has the upside of a top 5-10 pick
He’s most certainly not penciled in anywhere. There’s a lot of forward talent in this draft class that is can’t miss. Reinbacher isn’t even a certified top pair dman.
@@ctagh5555 NHL teams tend to pass on players like Benson (small wingers) for players they think will be top pairing defensemen. For example, Nazar last year and Caufield in 2019.

It is very similar to Seider
I could see him going as high as 7 to Philly who have zero good RHDs on team or in system thanks to Fletcher ineptitude. Should have taken Jiricek last year as well. So while I think someone like Leonard and Benson are slightly better prospects I can see the argument for Reinbacher.

Habs Fan how are we feeling ?
I'm good with it. I had Leonard as first choice and Reinbacher second if Hughes won't go for the russian.
Great. I just hope people calm tf down. He’s potentially a franchise defence man to lead a core of already great young defence men.
Confused, frustrated but still hopeful
After dodging Drouin 2.0 yesterday I'm still feeling great.
I'm worried with Reinbacher skating, when he reach his top speed, he tends to stride on the sides instead of onward-backward and Reinbacher is losing a lot of race (almost all his races) at high speed, (no one shows those highlights), sure he's still young in a men's league, but the NHL is even faster, he will need to fix that. Take considerations thats he's doing a lot of point on power plays and often in central zone when he pinch a forward he's in fact pinching the air cause he arrive late on the hit, decision taking? Lack of top speed? I'm not saying that he is so bad but he needs to work on those points for sure.
The speed of his hands he could be faster, he look more like a second rounder for this point. Also caution with europeans defencemen because they have more space and time and are not used to high and fast pressure of the north america and time of reaction is the key of everything here. There is a full bag of highly touted europeans defencemen prospects in the last years that didn't reach their ceiling in north america cause the main task for a NHL defencemen is to manage high and fast pressure. Those kind of defencemen finish with 18 minutes per night and 25 points per season, what is the ceiling of Reinbacher? Maybe its going to be the case so why spent a top ten pick on that, not sure.
Of course Reinbacher is doing a good job overall, but he doesn't have a high upside. So the best defencemen of this class is Dragicevic, cause he have a low floor and a high ceilling, the room (ceiling-floor=room) is bigger, so he needs to be ranked higher. Of course it will always be a Brian Burke style of GM that will force a head scout to take the big guy playing pro but an advised decision should be to take Dragicevic first, and Dragicevic HAVE NO SKATING PROBLEM, even Dan Marr chief of NHL CSS told that he's an excellent skater in his podcast just after the final ranking. Other defencemen like Pelikka and Gulyayev have a very high ceiling but the floor is also high cause the size recquired in the NHL. So the room is lower so they need to be ranked lower.
And by the way David, Dan Marr told the CSS ranking is a voted ranking. I also think a votation is the best way to elaborate a ranking, its like Survivor and everybody like Survivor :))
We see things differently :P
Reinbacher gonna drop at 21 for Seattle. With Shane, Goyette, Firkus, Nyman, Kartye. And only top D's like Evans and Nelson. We need a elite D like him or Pelikka.
hes not dropping that far lmao
