#worldsfastestshingler #roofing #stepflashing
I was taught, first you learn to do it right, then you learn to do it fast.
true that
I would take an entire Crew of this instead of flying around hacks any day good job bub
Good to see you back in action! Hope mehico was awesome!
I just finished a roof and it’s 37 degrees Celsius. Y’all look so nice and cool rn. I wanna go back in time to the spring
Good work Boycub 💪💪 hes really a beast...
Looking good! I'd much rather have slower and correct instead of fast as hell and sloppy/wrong. He's gonna make a fine roofer.
absolutely
Some of the most in efficient shingling I've seen yet he still does a good job and that's what counts in the end. I kept waiting to hear someone yell "quicklier" lol
Nice work man. Wish we had people like this on my crew. As usual it was me and the other two who always show. Team steam!!
Thank you very much!
those timbershits cut like construction paper lolol
he killen the game man. come along ways. that's something to be proud of , i remember my first wall i ever ran. had someone looking over me just like this but no cameras lol. might be a lil faster if you showed him how to cut a book.
Boy cub turned out to be a quality little roofer
Why did he smack that drip edge so hard 😂 keep on roofing guys. Love the content
To make it hard for the other crew to put a new facia on
I only nail step flashing onto the roof deck not the side wall and the roof deck. Probably not a big deal cuz the house is already settled for the most part I would imagine, but it can cause problems not being able to move with the house. Looks good!
Not gonna lie, kept thinking he was gonna step off the side a few times 😂 nice work 👍🏼
Thanks! 👍
What matters is he does it properly and steady. Once he keeps it up and starts getting his flow , he'll be good and skilled. You know what they say, repetition is the mother of skill.
This is the guy who nails step flashing to the sidewall so future roofers can't pull it out!
Sounds like a good video to make! Showing ppl why it's better to nail the wall over the roof lol
Them future roofers will be just as dumb as 99%of roofers today and they'll just reuse the old flashing nail holes and all
@@cjhooker75
Ive been a roofer 33 years, not only shingles but also flat commercial roofing, I've seen alot of dumb shit in them years!
@@marcmiller789 A lot of the mistakes should never be made. The instructions on the wrapper tell you how to do it right. People just believe everything they're taught and never research to see if it is correct
Tell boy cub get him a longer knife. I used to use the little switch blade, longer knife made my cuts a hell of a lot quicker, and less knuckle scrapes
My thoughts exactly. The Stanley fatmax fixed blade utility 10-780 or 10-799 was my choice.
He's not a boy cub no more.
He's a whole man bear
Boy cub you rock
LEETS GOOOOO!!!!!!!! i want in on the next roof Olympics.
i really need to get that rolling. still shooting for winter time
My house was built in 1994. Similar to this house, they have a J channel on top of the shingles. Do you have a video on how you install new shingles under the J channel? I haven't found one yet. If you don't could you do one? Great videos! Thank you!
He takes the ladder down so we can't pee lmao,
Lol
Good Job
thank you
Can you do a video on the stretches you do for roofing please
when he does his small stair piece nailed right into his flashing where the water is gonna be running, time 9.10 on vid, im young and been doing it 8 yrs and learn from mistakes just a heads up, but love your video's and a avid follower
Dude that thing is over 6 inches and he has no nails directly on the flashing. Just the shingle nailed. Job well done.
What’s up Zach and boycub from PA. You guys ever think about using snips to cut your shingles. Saves a lot of blades? What is the reason for that? Glad to see a video from you guys again.
i know a lot of roofers that use them on thicker shingles. like the expensive ones lol or in the winter to go around pipes n such. straight cuts are no problem in the cold. its the rounded ones that suck.
It’s about damn time
Get the boy an ajc blade so he can cut those damn shingles lol
Jus bought me a fresh 100 pack of ajc hook blades! So nice
It’s about time
I’m a little late on the video but I love your videos
Hurry up with that pitch hopper promo code bud I gotta get me one of those 👍
What brand and model of roofing nailer do you use ?
We say slow is smooth and smooth is fast literally all day at work
It's so true
Soon enough it’ll be soo hot that he’ll end up slicing though the bottom shingle while he’s cutting his book. Have him lift it up a bit?
- Buy to that guy a new pair of pants ... he will ruin his knees until he will hit 30-35 years old. :)) Cheers again mate with a cold beer from London!
he's been wearing knee pads lately. not sure where they're at here. n he also doesn't shingle on his knees much
Stanley Fatmax fixed blade utility knife 10-799 or 10-780 gets your fingers up and away from scrapping up those knuckles as much. AJC hook blades are worth every penny.
I love your videos as I learn so much. Now what you don't show is how the shingle the discontinuity where the peak of the short roof meets the sloping part that BC is sat on. When I framed my roof I cut a slot at the peak of the short roof all the way to the wall, ran the cap shingles (on top of the short roof) to the wall through the slot. Then the shingles that continue up (under BC's butt) would overlap the cap shingles in the slot. I hope that makes sense? I have never been told if that was the correct way to do it or not but it hasn't leaked in 25 years.. and now of course its time to re-do the roof. Did I do it right?
I'd like to see that part too.
Whenever there's a rake cutted into the wall like that I personally like to put step flashing behind the fascia board and tight to the back to it and then bend a piece of metal to make like a sort of front pan where the step flashing comes down to.
Most of the times the homeowner has put metal fencing there because of pest problems and that resolves it but also makes it look good
Hey bro just a quick tip instead of running ur steps up that wall u can do 8 inch price full shingle then full shingle 8 in peice
yea as long as the seams don't stack. i probably would've done it similar to boycub. few differences
He's a good student more time u do it u get faster and learn lil tricks
Great Video, would you consider doing one on how the step flashing is installed. And maybe one on how you do hip's?
Yea I really need to! I think if you watch my shingle race video or my 12/12 video you'll get a good sense of hip work
@@NWIVeteranConstruction Ok thanks, I'll give that a look. I think I understand how you make two different planes of the roof meet but I'll check it out.
@@RedNeckBiker109 it's the easiest. Either video should do you right
@@NWIVeteranConstruction THank you sir, as a fellow Veteran I appreciate you and your service. Be safe.
Why did he bother cutting the 3 inches off the drip edge that overlapped the other one
Everything you guys do is perfect not gonna lie though I would rack that piece and it will be done a quarter of the time looking good and performing just as well , stepping is proper back makes no sense on a piece that shape
Skipped the most important part. How was the peak shingled where end of fascia was coning on top of the roof deck he was shingling. Doesn’t seem like there was any space to slide the shingles under.
Any tips? on cutting the Shingles in a perfect straight line like he did impressive
It takes a little practice. Get a few shingles that are laying around and try to cut 20 or so straight cuts. Also, Seeing straight is just as important as the action of the hand. So make sure you use the details in the shingle to visualize the straight line before cutting, and soon enough your hand will just cut straight lol
@@NWIVeteranConstruction thanks man appreciate it also is a lot easier when the shingles are warm. Are you still doing roofing?
he needs much more experience greetings from new york hopefully someday we have a chance work together
he seems to be hailing into the drip edge?
💯💯💯💯💯⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👏👏👏👏👏🤝
I guess tape measures and chalk lines are absolete today. Figure out your pattern and cut your shingles from the backside with a straight blade with the factory edge of another shingle it will be a square cut. Let the shingle hang over the outside edge a few inches and when you shingle the whole edge use a blue chalk line and strike a line, blue chalk will not be a permanent mark on your roof. Personally nail my flashing on the roof so it is tighter to the roof and a slight under bend on the flashing so fits tighter to the wall. Would like to see how you guys flashed under the eve by the gutter board, I have had to repair those areas a lot because people don't get that flashing back in there far enough.
Yikes
That laminate section sure does slow down the cutting (especially when it cold out)! Why nail the step flashing to the wall? Wouldn’t that hinder it from expanding and contracting and warp the shingles when it does?
nah, I prefer it this way. I also have been fortunate enough to have torn off 1 or 2 that weren't nailed. this won't cause any problems, I feel like its actually significantly less likely to cause problems and the next guy will surely be thankful for that wall
Y'all must work on alot of new construction ive worked on old construction alot in my career and the old school roofers did not nail the flashing on the wall
It has to be moved any way if you tear off 3tabs and go back with architecs
Good job! I am a little disappointed I didn't get to see if he was able to get up under the overhang and finish.. Whatever though, good shtuff I truly enjoy watching you guys
Next time!
where the soffit meets the ridge?
@@dimitrigoodwin6822 yes
@@dimitrigoodwin6822 Well actually it would be where the fascia meets the ridge.
Goood fuuckiingg hustle boycub
Your fired
Look at that progress. Is the cub earning at least 20 bux a square yet.
Of course
Then shit get me on that crew I'll be at around $35
How do you like that GAF Felt Buster Synthetic Underlayment man?
Love it
@@NWIVeteranConstruction can you install that underlayment with regular A11 tracker staples or are caps absolutely required?
At 10 minutes that is a full shingle you only put 4 nails in bro!! Best to storm nail no matter your area. Just tips
Did you guys take all of that siding off?
Yea there was a leak. We had to remove it to make sure the plywood wasn't damaged and re run the house wrap over the top of the tins. When the siding runs tight into j channel like that water runs along the siding ribs and right to the wall. I knew that was the cause before we tore off lol its so common to see tight siding causing a leak
@@NWIVeteranConstruction tight into the j or nailed too tight to the wall?
@@arihooley2046 tight into the j. When that siding is touching it water runs right into those ribs. It's meant to come out of the weep holes but usually debris gets in between the siding and j channel adding to the water issue. Wouldn't be a problem if the house wrap is over the tins though
Boycub need a better knife so u can get a good grip and cut faster.... and a bigger pouch
What’s the pitch of that roof that he’s on?
It was a 6/12
5/12
At 3:40 that was wrong side to cut buddy!!
Boycub finally got his own video! This event has been years in the making!
yessir
Notice it does not say fastest redeemer. Cause plywood you need a armed guard now days it's like gold .jk
Another tip for him is to plant his feet where he is working and put your shingles over top of the opposite foot that your gun is in. Then you don’t gotta keep moving the around
Boycott dude you should have had that done way quicker bra
Ok no more dropping the snipssuper glue a magnet a real one to them pop 5 nails in small circle.and hangem thier.because that trip up and down u don't get back time wise
I want to be a roofer but I have a problem with heights. If I stand on a kitchen stool I completely freeze up. How do you think I should start my career
By not starting. I remember your name from other comments
Ohhhhh so u guys like to nail the step flashing metal into the wall, hmmm hahah jk.... when tearing off that is a pain in the ass when siding is on to, and u have to take off the i usually just put the nails into the flat part not up on the walls.. but everyones different..... he is getting faster and better tho,
No dagos at all
Sounds like yah need a new fitting lol
nahh just Teflon tape lol
Thought he quit
That was a while back. We made up
Pshh i go slow for yall
haha you'd better go respond to some of your fans
Somebody should teach him not to nail so close to the step flashing and that 6 in tab on the wall is a no 👎
Just watching him trying to flip the knife up is annoying don’t be cheap by yourself a better knife only like 12$at Home Depot
