- This is a final reveal of my creation, a 3 headed dragon! Hand made using polymer clay, galvanized, foil, tape, and acrylic paints. The 2 main colors are Metallic Blue Pearl and Metallic Amethyst which only increase the fantasy look I think.. This was a long journey, but a fun one! I learned a lot from all this too. this was a awesome build, my greatest yet!!! Looking forward to all your comments as usual, thank you so much for watching and being patient!
I started this out by shaping the wire to form a animal's skeleton. Then I add aluminium foil to bulk out the areas that are considered "dead space" This saves in material (no need to waste clay) and it also cuts down on the sculptures weight! Once I got the foil like I want it I cover alllll the foil with masking tape [masking tape helps keep the foil in place, adds a small (I repeat, small) amount of structural integrity, and keeps the clay lean in case you ever have to take the project apart you won't have pieces of foil in the clay!] Then I add a layer of sculpey original clay because its cheaper in cost and makes a great base coat! (I no longer sculpt using sculpey original, I use a mixture of clay that is going amazing for me right now! Super sculpey and Firm, a 50/50 mixture)

This is beyond my comprehension of what you can do with clay. Thank you for this!!!

This is friggin awesome!!!! :D
i used this video to try and recreate my own dragon-like figure... im not finished yet... and i didnt have enough sculptey to make wings :(
well the good thing is you can always add them later. I'm glad the videos are helping a little, good luck with your project!
You deserve them thumbs up !
Greetings, where do you get your clay and what brand is it? And what clay softener are you using? I have tried many materials and none have been worthy. Please help! (P.S. I love dragons)
You are soooo…. talented, creative, and humble. Never stop doing what you do so magnificently.
Many reasons why I thought this was a great tutorial. First off, you used many materials from your home & cost effective stores!! Loved the fact you used a pasta sheeter!! You were not afraid to share your mistakes so the viewer could avoid them. You were not afraid to try suggestions from the viewer. Also, you shared your intimidation's, your weaknesses & your strengths. BRAVO....a job well done!!
Absolutely incredible - loved watching this grow from the wire skeleton on out! Excellent!
The paint came out extraordinary! I love this whole series, I am really into dragons, and I will defiantly use this series, as a basis for my own full figured sculpture of a dragon. Thank you so much Tom!
I just finished the entire dragon sculpture demonstration, and I am extremely grateful to you! I come to CZcams often to find new tutorials in polymer clay, and today I had chosen to learn dragons. Mine will be smaller, but I wanted to see a large one, first, so I can really get the detail. You did an amazing job! The video itself is awesome and very well put together, and I learned so much more than I could have hoped for. Thank you so much!
It WAS well worth it. I loved the journey. The colors you picked made the little details that can't be seen in polymer clay jump out just right after the paint. Holy cow, that's incredible.
The thing I really admire about this is that out of all things, you chose a dragon. They're super complicated, but beautiful subjects, and it really paid off. I also enjoyed listening to you fangirl about it throughout the whole series; I know if I'd done something this cool, I would've been the same way.
+Elf Drachen Thank you I really do appreciate all the support it means a lot.
you are absolutely amazing if there was an audience i bet they would give you a standing ovation.i am stunned and speechless of what to say but you are incredible
I've seen this 3 years ago... *Still can't believe how Impressive this is!*
Hola Tom. Muchas gracias por todo el trabajo que te tomaste en filmar y producie esta pieza.. Aprendí muchas cosas viendolo... Te lo agradesco muchisimo... Gracias por tu humildad y tu vocación de ayudar.
This was great. I came for the armature and stayed for the series.
W-O-W I never be able to make something as gorgeous as that in more than a million years. You were born to craft!
I have had a box of Sculpey original sitting in my closet for a long time. I just watched it this entire series for the Dragon from start to finish and I am now inspired to finally try sculpture. through each part of this process I could hear you becoming more and more confident in your abilities as a Sculptor. you come across as the sweetest, nicest, most sincere and humble artist on I've seen on CZcams. thank you very much for what you do. I have been in absolute need of inspiration. and you gave it to me. I appreciate you man
Never been more inspired to make a sculpture in my life! This was amazing to watch and has just sent inspiration coursing throughout my body. AMAZING!
Mind blowing .... I respect your patience !
Absolutely GORGEOUS! One thing you did that I haven't heard anyone doing the sculptures is how long you baked it! Thank You for Sharing!
Love your dragon, I made a baby dragon coming out of his egg (real chicken egg) for my son. Haven't worked with my clay for almost 2 years but thanks to you I can't wait to get back to it. Thank you so much and please keep doing your videos.
I am new to polymer clay. I have never done any sculpting, after watching you sculpt this amazing dragon, I am going to start sculpting. My aim is that one day I may be able to make something as awesome as this. Until then I'll keep watching and learning. Thank you for sharing your art.
Not gonna lie, this is a highly impressive video for something made in 2012. It's pretty high quality, and the audio is clear.
AMAZING!!! the scales..the colors..the details...LOVE it! You are so talented and so generous with your knowledge..thanks for sharing!
Wow!! I like your paint choice. The way the light reflects off of the scales really gives life to your sculpture.
Wow, this series blew my socks off ! Thanks so much for your generosity in sharing this amazing adventure. The videos are so clear, and I found your explanations easy to follow and complete... you've inspired me to hit the Sculpy !!
I ran across your videos looking for framing a dragon prop and decided to watch. i ended up watching all 10 videos in one session of viewing. Your work is beautiful and inspiring especially to a person that does not sculpt. I will not be using clay to create my dragon but your full explanation of the wire framing is exactly what i needed. Thanks so much for sharing your extraordinary skill and patience.
He's amazing, a true work of art.
Holy cow! I just watched all 10 of these videos back to back! I haven't worked with polymer clay since I was a kid and was only hoping to find some tips on building wire frames & maybe some good sculpting tips, but this is amazing. Well done. And honestly, 3 months for this intense of a project isn't long at all.
I defiantly feel more confident and less overwhelmed with my project. Thank you!
Beautiful work, thank you for sharing how you create your sculptures. Not everyone likes to share their information.
I'm in a sculpting class for the first time, and we're starting with wire sculptures and mobiles. I fear clay because of my inexperience, the endless things you can do with it, and how easy it is to mess something up at any point in the process. This series has made me excited to use clay again, and I can't wait to have the chance to make something like this
This dragon is just incredible! I can't stop watching this video! Keep the great work up!

I loved this video series, you should be working in Hollywood. Thanks for sharing.
You're right, this is the greatest thing that you made. It's so awsome!
I know this is an old video, but I had to come back to comment on it. I first started sculpting about a year ago, and this series of dragon videos was the first thing I watched to try to learn more about how to go about sculpting, and helped me make my first sculpture (Falkor the luckdragon from Neverending story). Now a year later I've sold some sculptures locally and am getting ready to open an Etsy shop! So I wanted to come back and thank you for helping me get started. ^_^
I remember when you just started this. Look how amazing it is now! The green eyes add a really nice touch, and I LOVE the metallic colors!! Fantastic Job!
you got it!

Thank you for this! I tried sculpting about a year ago and haven't had the confidence to try it again because I wasn't very good. I was expecting too much. This will really help me step by step!
Tom, I watched the entire video series of making this Dragon. You are an awesome instructor. Your instructions are clear and the video itself is very detailed so that even a novice sculptor can learn so much from your experience. I love how you even make some of your tools to fit a specific need. I haven't done any sculpting in years but watching you has inspired me to pick it up again. I plan on watching all of your videos. Please keep them coming. You are Great!!

Thank you very much for sharing all the steps of your sculpture with us!! I'd like to start sculpting and I am a little bit scared about it because I never took any class or had any kind of training on sculpting. But the way you make your videos, showing all the process, gives me confidence to start my own projects. These videos are a great help for me, an incredible tool. Thank you for your generosity!!
I just fished my first Dragon. I learned how to do it from your wonderful videos . The way you slowly explained every move was very helpful. I only did one head on mine though. I only wish you could see a picture of him. Thank You so much for your help...

Thank you for sharing. They are very informative.
The work is impressive, but the character and kindness you express is more impressive. The responses to criticisms and feedback are holy...we don't get enough of these demonstrations of human integrity and kindness on the net. Keep up the great example of both your art and kindness!
That is one gorgeous dragon!
It really turned out totally AWESOME!
