It worked well. Since you decided not to worry about the other side, I suppose you could have glued a disc of plastic or something to that side, thus supporting the whole record.
Yes, very good point which I didn't think of. Probably could have used an old CD or something similar 🤔. I did wonder afterwards if I should have tried to ease the dent out of it slightly, but I am glad I didn't as the crack may have gone through to the other side. Thanks 😀 👍
Timothy I agree with you and I'm a Collector and Admirer of the late Yehudi Menuhin and I've been Collecting his Records both on Pre War 78rpm and LP Vinyl for over forty years and last year 2032 Marked the 90th Anniversary of the Elgar Violin Concerto being Recorded and it was Played by a 16 year old Yehudi Menuhin and a 75 year old Sir Edward Elgar with the London Symphony Orchestra and I've got a Mint Pre war 78rpm Record set in the Pre war album on His Master's Voice Record Number's DB-1751 DB-1756 and the first LP Transfer in 1957 on Red and Gold Record Number ALP-1456 and the later one Reissued in the HMV Treasury Serious Record Number HLM-7107 as well as on C-D and I've also got a Mint first Pressing Stereo of his 1966 Recording:Record number ASD-2259 and the 1932 Recording has never been out of the Catalogue since it's Relise in November 1932
I really didn't expect that to be salvageable. The result seemed fine to my ears 👍👍
Yes, it plays surprisingly well and should be robust enough to use on a proper gramophone. Thanks 😀 👍
@@mrrgstuff you can glue a similar sized round piece of plastic to the other side of the record, making it stronger to it won't break
Thanks 😀 👍. Yes, that might be worth doing 😀
@@mrrgstuff But you won't!!
In this case I probably won't, but the suggestion might be useful for another record. Thanks 😀 👍
Well done - I didn't think these records could be repaired, but you've proved that idea wrong!
Thanks 😀 👍. Yes, I've made a couple of previous attempts:

czcams.com/video/tF7oAQLPkq0/video.html
I have also had some success unwarping them:

Lol CZcams recommending a bunch of small channels to me these days, excellent video dude, NGL at first I thought you put superglue on the top of the disc 😂
Thanks 😀 👍. Glad you enjoyed it. I made a couple of other repair attempts too:

I cant think that I have ever come across a crack like that that “turns a corner” halfway in. I couldn’t hear the repair. Well done.
Thanks 😀 👍. Yes, very odd this one. It was also unusual in so much as the crack was really all on one side
@@mrrgstuff perhaps something went on in manufacture and then became apparent after some decades.
Maybe indeed. We had a crystal drinking glass that shattered on Christmas day, and I think too that had some sort of preexisting fault 🤔. Thanks 😀 👍
Well done sounded very acceptable. Another on saved. All the best 👍.
Thanks 😀 👍. Glad you liked it. I think the side saved was worth the effort 😀
Worth sacrificing a B side! I once did this with a single sider that had broken completely in half. Pre superglue era, so used plywood to reinforce. Double clicks in the playback. but was amazed it was possible to line up the grooves, so no repeating.
Thanks 😀 👍. It's always great to be able to fix a record. Not tried one broken in half yet, but encouraging to hear it is possible to do. I have many more broken records to experiment with, so will see what else I can come up with! 😀
Personally, and this is just me, I would have tried playing and digitizing both sides before trying for a repair, if even going for a repair, the record would just live on in digital format.
It certainly was an option, though I was concerned the crack would get worse even just playing it once. As the crack hadn't broken through to the good side, I thought it best to strengthen it first. Thanks 😀 👍
@@mrrgstuff What if one were to use a nonpermanent, water soluble glue to attach a suitable piece of material to the whole other side to reinforce the record while digitising. I'm thinking a piece of cloth, it conforms to the shape, resists stretching, and allows water through to help dissolve it later. And a non waterproof grade of PVA. Glue and cloth would form a temporary shape-preserving composite. By applying to either side, both sides can be digitised.
Something to be aware of is that PVA loses a lot of volume while drying. So some measures need to be taken otherwise the reinforcement can shrink and warp and completely ruin the record. So this idea needs a good bit of further refinement to prove usable.
@@mrrgstuff that is a good point. With these fragile, old things, failure is always an option.
Possibly, though it might be quite difficult to remove the temporary support and clean the glue away sufficiently to then play the side 🤔. I think also, assuming that did work, you would need to make a decision about what to with the crack long term. I felt I needed to do a permanent fix as otherwise it was only likely to get further damaged and broken in the future. Thanks 😀 👍
Cool!!! I have to try it!!! 👍 Did you glue such a broken plate?
Thanks 😀 👍. Here is a video of a completely broken one I also repaired:
czcams.com/video/Gmdp2Xmr_Jk/video.html
Sounded ok 👏
Thanks 😀 👍
I have a suggestion, if you use resin, and take a q tip with a tiny bit of oil on the crack itself making sure the oil doesn’t get down there, you can spread the resin without it sticking to the grooves, you will need to press a tad harder with a microfiber brush to clean it off and use some windex
Yes, I can see what you mean. It would be tricky, though, to get the oil on the grooves without it going into the crack. Thanks 😀 👍
But at the edge I mean to say from the stating point is broken or any deep hole then what should I do? How to repair? Please reply
I have not yet tried to repair a deep hole. These videos might help you with cracks from the edge:

Hope that helps. 😀👍
I have used another unwanted record and glued the 2 together, it makes them quit thick but at least it's safe from falling apart
Thanks 😀 👍
Im a big fan of harry bidgoods various incarnations. What a band leader!
Glad you enjoyed it. Yes, he always seems to deliver a good performance. There are quite a few of his tracks on these little Broadcast records. Thanks 😀 👍
What about the other side? I've been super gluing 78's since the 1970's and one side usually suffers, but is playable.
I haven't tried the other side, but yes, it probably would play at least to some extent. Normally, I'd try for a solution that would work for both sides, but as the crack was really all on one side, I thought it was worth the sacrifice 😉🤔. Thanks 😀 👍
@@mrrgstuff Sometimes we just have to make a sacrifice. 🙂
Stabilised for sure, I suspect it will start to chip as the needle passes over the crack after X amount of plays.
Yes, quite probably. Seems to be one of the biggest issues with fixing cracks and breaks is that it is virtually impossible to get a smooth join. On this one the crack curiously doesn't seem to have come all the way through, so it might be ok 🤔
I was expecting some clinical technique, so I couldn't help but actually _gasp_ when you dumped super glue on there. Like, SURELY there's a better technique to get adhesive IN the crack that keeps both sides clean, right? I would imagine something like a light application of a gentle solvent to a brush and cleaning out the tracks after glue is applied?
Yes, and if you told me I was going to dump superglue all over one side I would have probably gasped too! Actually though whilst I would normally attempt to save both sides, like in these videos:
czcams.com/video/Gmdp2Xmr_Jk/video.html
czcams.com/video/tF7oAQLPkq0/video.html
In this case I did think long and hard about what to do. I think doing nothing would have resulted in the crack getting worse and maybe even a chunk breaking out. What was unusual about this record is that as well as the curve of the crack - the crack didn't go all the way through the record. In the end I decided that trying to close up the crack was too much of a risk to the good side (ie the crack going all the way through) and the damage was already too great on the bad side for it to play well, glue or no glue. There clearly are other approaches and I do have many more broken and cracked records so I will continue to experiment. Thanks 😃👍
Sadly, this cracked record ordeal is a case-by-case basis. You did what you could with the one side.
Yes indeed. I wouldn't normally sacrifice one side of a record like this, but it did seem like the best solution. Thanks 😀 👍
Digitize it!
Yes, I did record the whole of the good side on my Zoom H1n also. Thanks 😀 👍
Considering the side you wanted to play was essentially fine, I really don’t see the need for the glue. Maybe long term if you needed to keep it, but just for a few plays? I don’t see the point.
The point was to see what happened. If he had tried to play it without the glue the record would have probably come apart.
Yes, it was more for the long term. It might have played just fine, but without the glue (or some other repair) the crack would have got worse, and eventually a chunk would have broken out. I didn't want to store it away in that condition. At least now, one side preserved for the future. Thanks 😀 👍
That was always a possibility, too. Thanks 😀 👍
Repent and trust in Jesus. we deserve Hell for our sins. For example lying, lusing, saying God's name as a cuss word and stealing our just some examples of sin which we can all admit to doing at least one of those. For our sin we deserve death and Hell, but there is a way out. Repent anf trust in Jesus and you will be saved. Repentence is turning from sin. So repent and trust in Jesus. He will save you from Hell, and instead give you eternal life in Heaven.
