  • Unveiling the machine I bought at a recent car boot sale.

      Thanks 👍 😀. They are certainly fun to work on. I have lots of projects and lots of videos coming, and I will do some fake gramophone ones, too. 😀

    And a follow up from my other comment, HMV and Columbia is very common in Asia, there where more companies but those two are the most common ones

      Yes, very common in the UK, too, and some excellent stuff on them, but I prefer to collect the rarer labels! 😅. Thanks 👍 😀

    Oh I never thought you would get option 3! At least it’s cheap and comes with a rare Hindu 78! In my country, Singapore , Hindu records are hard to find as the only common records in my country is only Chinese and Malay, Hindu never really made it to Singapore, but only soon vinyl records made in India came out to Singapore, and also there’s a Arabic text as your know, India is near those Arabic countries so some people from there wanna buy those 78s, that’s why there Arabic and Hindustani. Anyways hopefully you will make a video of that recording! And also this question just pop up to my mind, do you have any records to give away? Anyways thanks for posting this video!

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  Před měsícem

      We get a few Indian records here, but mainly just pressings of western records. I do have one record with an Indian specific label. I think I have one from Hong Kong too, but nothing from Singapore, except that sleeve that you have seen.
      If we lived closer together I would happily give you some spare records, but I don't think it is practical to transport them, unfortunately. Thanks 👍 😀

      Thanks 👍 😀. Yes, they do seem to be popular videos, and I am glad people enjoy them. I'm certainly not suggesting anyone buy one, though finding genuine horn machines is very hard nowadays, at least where I am! 😀

    Can't believe you didn't buy that beautiful speaker. I'm a little saddened and disappointed. But I still gave the video a like.

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  Před měsícem

      I appreciate the comment. It was a nice speaker, but it had already been restored, and the driver changed (though still vintage). I didn't have a use for it and no room to store it. Having said that, I was surprised by how much interest has been shown towards it, so maybe if I see it again or another one, I'll buy it. Thanks 👍 😀

    I reckon it's alright to have a reproduction gramophone or two in one's collection, causes a greater appreciation for the authentic machines that one already owns. Well done. Blessings!

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  Před měsícem +1

      Yes, I buy them because I find them interesting, but only if they are different and the price is right. The videos are partly to warn people about them, but also to inform those who have already aquired one. I would like to find one which really has been converted from an old portable (or other) machine. All the ones I have seen in person have been these 100% modern fakes. Thanks 👍 😀

    i do wonder, is it possible to ''graft'' a gramophone up,i mean,what you said about the portable motors being used in this reproductions sparked an idea in my head . And yes i can hear a slight echo from the horn,pretty interesting

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  Před měsícem

      It's certainly possible to switch motors between machines, though things like screw holes and the position of the winding hole are rarely the same. This video shows a good example of this:
      czcams.com/video/3-9UU49Zm5A/video.html
      Even when it is a direct swap, things can go wrong, like here:
      czcams.com/video/6PbHfAw6Jwo/video.htmlsi=2toWwXjdw-alhMwN
      Old portable motors have certainly been used to make fakes, but most have new ones. I cover that in this video:
      czcams.com/video/t3FQ1F03QUI/video.htmlsi=1ZSD7AWMdIZNIAOO
      Glad you enjoyed the video and could also hear the weird echo. Thanks 👍 😀

      Yes, fake machines do have a lot of scope for videos as there is so much to fix on them! 😅. I'm resisting the temptation to fiddle with this new one as I want to get as much of the work on camera. Of course, I have other real machines I ought to be looking at, too! Thanks 👍 😀

    Hello again i just like to comment i brought a fake Gramophone last year and it cost me £50 interesting to know it said on the motor made especially for the Gramophone company in Western Germany it had a glass front so you could see the motor running when it played. It just goes to show what different reproduction Gramophone that are about.

    • @mrrgstuff

      That sounds like a very interesting machine. Maybe the motor is a genuine post war one? All the ones I have seen have been 100% fake:

    Mechanically & acoustically rubbish, but think the octagonal & circular ones (like mine) have a quirky artistic appeal. A 'black museum' piece, worth uploading from time to time to prevent new collectors buying these as genuine. Also fun to tinker with!

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  Před měsícem +1

    Bonjour, j'espère que vous allez bien, dommage que vous n'ayez pas pris le vieux haut parleur, vous auriez pu le couplé avec un ampli de la même époque et le relié à une vieille TSF, sinon super vidéo avec ce faux phonographe 👍

    Is anyone actually making modern gramophones that are good, even if they are fake?

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  Před měsícem

      Not that I know of. There have been some pretty decent replicas made by various companies over the years, I have read, but I don't have the details and I'm not aware of any in production. There seem to be some better quality ones coming out of India based on a couple I have seen but not really been able to examine. Plenty of poor ones still apparently being made though. I'll see if I can find some pictures. Thanks 👍 😀

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  Před měsícem

      People buy them as decoration. They work to the extent the parts move. They do need significant adjustment to get them to really play records. You can see my other one working just fine, here:

    • @mrrgstuff
      @mrrgstuff  Před měsícem

      Yes, I was in to minds really about the price. Expensive compared to what I wanted to pay, cheap compared to other ones I have seen. It was bought purely on potential in the end. My channel is more acoustic gramophone than vintage radio, and I just felt there was more to do with the fake than the speaker, especially considering someone had already restored the speaker and changed the driver (still vintage though). Thanks 😀 👍
