- This is the story of the video: CSX A456 is a light move that comes to the rescue of coal train T740, which blocks the main track of Howie Siding with engine problems. We do not watch the lengthy operation how these helpers are placed between the original engines of the T train. Instead, we had north to Elberton to catch military train W871 with vehicle loads and its amazing lashup that contains a YN2 Dash 8 and an SD70MAC. The rain pours heavily, so we chase it south to Colbert to get a different perspective in more favorable weather. Q582 with a DPU in the middle of the train crosses our path in Colbert. Back north in Comer, we see superlong local train A749 with EMD duo GP40-2 and GP38-2 take the side track, because T740 is still on the main. Eventually T740 can leave with its unusual 4+1 consist. We catch him in Carlton. Upon return to comer, we bump into Q211, a combo of mixed freight and autoracks going north. Only after its pass, A749 can make the move from the side track to the main track and backing up on the main at Howie to work the feed mill (which we have watched before; videos are on this channel). Enjoy!
CSX 4435 was former Conrail 3361 & CSX 2780 was former Conrail 8204
7793 dates from 1992 then. Certainly looks like it's still in its original paint job.
Great stuff man.
Cool, thanks!
Nice chase of the military train that was part of the 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team, in particular it looked like 236th Brigade Engineering Battalion from North Carolina ANG (OH, SC & WV units are also part of 30th ABCT). They were heading to NTC @ Ft Irwin, CA for a training rotation then to the Middle East for a year long deployment.
Interesting, thanks for the info!
Man dude you have such high quality videos
Thanks!
great video
Thank you!
Terrific catches/power/races/meets! It looks like it was raining where you were at. In the DMV (DC, Maryland Virginia) we have been having a severe drought of no rain since August 1st.
Well, this was recorded before the heat wave that affected us in Georgia as well.
Goodness, those last two cars on A749 look as though they've been dragged out of a hedgerow where they've been for the last 40 years
Lol
Nice 🔥👍
If you run Mid power are these later separated into two smaller trains and moved onto different locations like that? Or is it purely for extra tractive effort?
These are DPUs, which stands for distributed power unit. The idea is to distribute power, braking power and tractive effort more uniformly than head power only. However, in some cases they indeed combine trains to reduce costs for crews.
also I thought that Tier 4 was #3440 (heritage unit) and then I realized it was #3340
8:00 that is a massive hill
It looks a bit more dramatic in the video because of the foreshortening effect, but nonetheless the grades are substantial.
indeed
Wow, this was really well done, all the info that was included was appreciated.
I do have a question.....at 17:49 there are numbers 1 through 6 written across the tracks, what's up with that?
Thank you very much! I don't know what the numbers mean, but this is the dragging-equipment detector; if something like a cable or anything else hanging too low under the train is dragged over it, it will report an error to the train crew.
@@mbmars01 Thank you, time to watch another one!
When Signals take out the DD they number the plates to know which way to put them back in.
@@trackdawg7637 Can you please explain that to me like I'm Michael Scott?
@@sanddabz5635 When a production team comes through to either replace rail or ties, A signal team has to remove the DD. They number the plates. 1 thru 6. This tells which plate goes where. The plates are removed from the bar under the rail. Then signal will remove the bar and other hardware so it won't get damage.
A train hit a truck in winder today
Yea, I heard that, too.
Love your videos. Thank you
Thanks so much!
Awesome! I just looked back thru my old videos and it happens to be that I caught 4435 leading down in Jacksonville in 2017. Great captures of the military and coal trains.
Nice you caught it, too! Thanks.
Imagine if one of the locomotives actually popped a wheely well pulling carts on 1 of the trains. There would be really cool if you would be caught on camera. Great video bro .
I certainly don't want to stand next to a train when this happens lol. Nice you like the vid.
Boris Obrucicov I had dreams about stuff like that. LOL. My sister lives right across from the track in Elberton Georgia.
Ah, good. A much needed diversion for today. You're timing is great!
Excellent video as always. As always, my gratitude for your efforts and upload. I particularly had fun with the military stuff.
Very cool. I'm not surprised you liked the military train most :)
@@mbmars01 Yeah my friend. Go figure.
Rain? In Georgia? Must have been in the spring. It has not rained in Warner Robins for a LONG time, outside a short burst a week ago.
This was recorded on a stormy day in June.
Yeah, that's about the last time we saw rain in any real quantity here LOL
Lol, same here in northeast GA.
@Eugene Stoner lucky you. My yard that does not get watered from the sprinklers is a brown shag carpet. My apple trees and one oak have had a hard time
Great shots. Just had to get the other side of the military train, eh. Excellent video.
Haha, you're right. Whenever there's something special I try to see it from both sides :) Thanks!
Military trains are always interesting. It's incredible how much gear the US Army moves around the country with these trains. I'm sure you really like these special cargos. How often do you see midtrain helpers in Georgia??? Great video as always, entertaining and spectacular.
I agree, of course. It's always fun to catch one of these. Midtrain DPUs are common here on some of the regular trains and occasional on others. Thanks, I'm happy you enjoyed the video.
Great video sir!! Cool shots sir!! Keep up the great work sir! Do you have any Norfolk Southern videos coming out soon?
Thanks! I have some NS footage, but I cannot say yet when I'll be able to work on it.
That's a very interesting military train, Some heavy artillery on that. Bridgelayers at the rear I think, based on M60 chassis.
Surprised to see a D8, from what i understand CSX has mostly retired them.Guess the engineer forgot to turn the headlight on for the military train.Very enjoyable video!
Yes, it was a nice catch, even more so as it still had the YN2 paint. Great you enjoyed it!
Nice video I like the locomotive that you caught
Thanks!
Great video! Cool shots sir! Keep up the great work sir! I liked seeing that military train that was cool sir!
Thanks. I agree, but I found strange that the heaviest loads (heavy tanks) were at the rear end of the train.
Also love the way you give us all of the info.
Great, thanks for the feedback.
Im kinda surprised by the number of M113 APC variants still in use in such a late date 2019. Its a very old design from the early 60s and you would think with the budget there would be a newer APC in use. Oh well. Great video. I really liked that C40-8Ws horn on the head end of the MIL special.
Hm, I don't know. There's probably not much to improve in the design anymore. Thanks!
Good video keep the good work up love the video
Thanks!
@@mbmars01 ur welcome
Sweet video!! Cool shots!! Keep up the great work!! Are you guys in a bad drought down there in Georgia sir?
Thanks! Yes, it was very dry during the last month, but now it looks like the weather is changing.
Nice! Just wondering, is it considered rare to see a Bnsf leader in that area?
Yes, it's relatively rare to see BNSF power here in the east.
Ok I was just wondering because I see a good amount of Csx power out here but I just caught a Csx leader for like only the second time.
My impression is that BNSF generally tries to avoid engines from other railroads lead their trains.
Yes that’s what it seems like.
I've seen 2 in the last few weeks that were military vehicles
Nice!
I would love to see a SD70MAC duo pull one of these military trains
Yep, I also love the Macs, but I also liked to see the D8 in YN2 paint leading this time.
Nice video
Thank you.
Sweet action on the high iron, MBMARS. Do you record trains at night in 4K or just during the daytime, cause I am starting to do trains in 4K as well and you inspired me on that deal.
Thanks! Yeah, I have 4k night footage in some of the videos. Cool; 4k rocks :)
The MAC looked to be dead in tow.. Not shocked. They hate them
Nice Video
I Plan To Do Points But i'll Watch It Again
Thanks!
They didn't get enough coal in those cars, did they?
Haha, that's what I thought. These trains are heavy and it happens frequently that they have issues on this line.
@@mbmars01 Hey,,Do those coal hoppers have the 360 degree knuckles so that they can be dumped without unhooking them like they use at the power plant in PA.?? Couldn't tell when they were rolling by !! anyhows,,great catches & thanks for the 11 hrs at Cajon Pass too !!KEEP IT SAFE !!!
@K B No, these coal cars aren't dumped I think. They are discharged at the bottom. Great you like the videos!
@@mbmars01 OKS !! On the HISTORY Channel on Extreme Trains ,,they show the coal cars being dumped in PA. Thanks !!
Yay I love csx
Where is this location?
East of Athens, GA.
@@mbmars01 Thanks. Awesome videos! Keep up the great work!!
Thank you! I sure will.
You Should Make Your Videos at my four Railfanning Places: NJ, Phillipsburg & Bound Brook & PA Allentown & Horseshoe Curve
All great places, but I tend to travel to places where I can get other colors than CSX and NS, because I already have them here in GA.
Why did T740 Broke Down
Engine failure of some sort. I guess, the culprit was #385, but I arrived too late to get the details.
Any new layout updates???
On my HO layout? Yes, it's making progress, slowly.
Army college football team Jerseys game players are supporting that army on train
mbmars01 i cant what to see a run around move train
Such a move is shown in all detail in an earlier video on this channel. Look for the video with label [3R].
@@mbmars01 ok
Seeing a LOT more DPU's on CSX coming through Western New York.
I know, they are experimenting with DPUs a lot. Here, these things haven't really changed.
War,what is good for? absolutely nothing, except for "COOl" loads.
All the money wasted on the Israeli oops US military
