Fast X - Unapologetically Dumb Fun

- The end of the road begins here. Fast X may be the ultimate example of the big, dumb, fun summer blockbuster. A movie with no message, no politics, no agenda except to entertain. And you know what? I'm okay with that.

Ah yes I loved his reviews for The Fast and the Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, and The Fate of the Furious
At this point, the only logical next step for the Fast and Furious films is to crossover with the Transformers franchise.

Don't give them anymore ideas this damn franchise needs to die it's so shit
Definitely
The fact that a Fast & Furious movie gave Brie Larson more room for acting than a main line MCU film says a lot about the state of the MCU
Don't forget that a Lego Movie also gave Brie Larson better material as well as an adorable Unikitty.
She is an Oscar winner for best actress...I don't think she needs to prove her acting skills
@Prasoon Mishra Nowadays all it takes to be recognised as a 'good actor' is ticking boxes
Such as
Being a woman
Being a gay woman
Being a black woman
OR
A BLACK GAT WOMAN.

How is it possible that a movie is so fun and stupid that even the drinker doesn't have anything bad to say about Brie Larson, and what he said even sounded like a compliment?!?
because he is biais
it´s blatantly obvious they are trying to use this movie as a "decoy" to see if they can make Brie Larson more likable and "reboot" her .
the film itselft is garbage and with momoa turned into "rain-bow fashion barbie doll" it is another franchise fallen victim to pushing the "message"
(they are trying to be cool and more "settle" about it in this one but it is blatantly clear what they are up to) .
the fact that momoa is a terrible actor who should not be given more than 2-3 one-liners in any movie he is in does not help either .
i used to like switching off my brain with Fast and furious franchise and enjoy it but they are too far gone now .
fast 4 and 5 was the peak of this franchise (in terms of turning off your brain and having fun , and also maybe feel some emotions along the way) .
i was a teenager when the first 3 movies came out and i feel certain nostalgia while watching them but this has nothing to do with the originals anymore .

This franchise is literally protected by so many layers of irony that it's untouchable
It is like fucking body armour.
Drinker really nailed it when he said "It kows exactly what it is, and will absolutely not apologize for it"
I think that right there is what's missing, people who refuse to apologize. Because that's what the woke bullshit wing is always pestering everyone to do.
Aren't films so much easier to enjoy when they don't take themselves seriously?
It is equivalent of someone calling you a ret@rd and you reply "yes, and?"
F&F is Post-Irony: The franchise
TBH I gotta give them some respect for having the kind of diverse cast that would be approved of by "modern audiences" and just letting them be those characters without trotting it out like they deserve a gold star sticker and a cookie for it.
100%
It tends to work better when its never mentioned.
And if you look back at the movies of the last 20 years or so, you'll find a lot of diverse casting that audiences loved. Wesley Snipes as Blade (and in Demolition Man)? Hell, yeah. Ertha Kitt and Halle Berry as Catwoman? Yeah, baby! The activists refused to see that Americans accepted great acting, heroes, villains, and, yes, sex objects regardless of their race, and set out to divide us, or else they would be out of a job. And here we are today.
One of the funniest things I've noticed some time ago is that the 2000's Charlie's Angels was surprisingly more progressive & objectively more fun to watch despite it's campy nature.
That, & Michael Bay unironically made actual strong women, without them being Mary-Sues.
@@BillPeschel And yet we still have White people as the bad guys 99% of time in basically all forms of media. We really haven't progressed. We just are too afraid to not check those boxes. Yeah this Fast and Furious franchise has added some villain's of color. But let's face it, it's not that much.
Race used to be just another dimension to the characters... now, it's the only dimension they have.
It's like in identity politics when gay people base their whole personality about how gay they are.
In breaking bad, I didn't even know Gus Fring was gay until I read comments about that episode with the bartender, and even then I have some doubts. That's how you write a "gay latino" character, you never focus on that single trait and instead give him a real personality. But good characters like this don't get the activists to write "yassss queeen slay!"
I liked the part in the after credits of Dominic confronting Optimus Prime and Prime asked “Dom, We need a team..” and Dom replied, “No we need a family.” My theater went crazy!
I can't tell if you are joking or not which is funny.
I farted after hearing that!
😂😂😂😂😂 you wrong for this
Man, don't tease us like that! 😂😂😂
So Fast X is where we get portrayal of family values now.
Whenever someone says “how has it gone from street racing to fighting world dominating villains?” I describe this franchise as a Dungeons and Dragon session that has gone on for 10 years with the same characters. Start off fighting bandits and by the end you are slaying Gods.
Isn't that just every Japanese RPG game tho? Lol
Which is very fitting becuase Vin Diesel loves DnD so much, he has his character name tattooed on him. He also wanted F&F to have "a mythology" like Riddick did.
20 years
Also reminds of World of Warcraft. They seemed to have countered the trend a bit with Dragonflight, though. Not that it matters.
You should spell gods with a small g.
"We don't need physic, logic, nor common sense. We have family".
Fast & Furious franchise in a nut shell.
hey, I thought that was the motto of my indian movies... good to know that the fast and furious movies borrowed the same sentiment
And all the right leaning reviews will eat it up as the way to make a good movie 😂

The cast constantly seeming comfortable with each other and that helps make the OTT-stunts and the paper-thin plot workable. So its fun for the team and fun for the viewer - just like in days of yore and totally different from the ideological clap-trap of so many modern franchises.
There are definitely times when you have to push the "I believe" button. Dom's charger got absolutely destroyed about a half dozen times in this movie and still came out of it with some dents and scratched up paint job until the very end.
Love how the franchise is clearly Vin Diesel and friends having fun with a budget.
My favorite part of Fast 1 is when Paul Walker pulls out a paper map from the glovebox to figure out where the rest of the crew is. Really reminds you how old the series really is... and how old I am.

@@redacted2275 I'm okay with that from Charlize, when I'm not from most actors or actresses. The difference is she'll take the hits. When an actor or actress is willing to do stunts that put them in the hospital for a month and then show up to do them again they get a pass. She continues to do most of her own stunts after having broken bones and spending a time being immobile in traction for weeks from a broken neck from a stunt. She gets to talk crap. I don't care if it's a male or female, if they're willing to go through all that they get to talk a game. They earned it. In this series... The Rock and Jason Stathum are legitimate action stars who do stunts. They don't do the type of stunts she has in the past. She gets to talk down to them. It's one of those things. Noone can say boo to Tom Cruise or Jackie Chan, not because they are guys. Because they are willing to do what they did and noone else was. Another woman... Michelle Yeoh really did ride a motorcycle on top of a moving train and lose it, she gets to say stuff to people unwilling to even try to do it.
Fast and Furious is what Sharknado could have been with a higher budget. Once you accept that; you’re in for a good time. Carfu is the strongest martial art/superhero ability to ever grace the screen.
Basically, a-turns-your-brain-off moment for this movie, as some would say, but for dumb fun 😅
The city is nearly destroyed. Most of the citizens evacuated but casualties inevitably large nonetheless. As we look into the distance, we see Godzilla begin to resonate with a familiar glow. He charges his beam directly at Dominic Toretto and his new charger set on top of one of the tallest buildings in Japan. Torettos eyes locked, he watches with his hand on the nos button as the energy builds up throughout godzillas body, it’s power resonating through the air with a clear peak in sight. Suddenly with force great enough to level cities, the beam from godzillas mouth is unleashed. Toretto looks on and says with a familiar grin “too soon” and activated his nos, avoiding the beam and jumping off the building. He crashes into a hot air balloon that happens to be flying by and his wheel catches onto the ropes hanging from the ballon causing his car to swing around in the air towards the direction of Godzilla. The trailer fades to black as Torettos car is about to collide with Godzilla while Godzilla roars in Terror. Coming soon

Its ok if you dont like action movies, or drama movies, or musicals... but to call any genre silly just shows that you have a pretty limited perspective on art and entertainment.
Me and my wife started watching these movies during the pandemic. It was so hard to not binge watch them all at once. It's a shame Marvel's catalog won't age nearly as well.

2. Your vocal gymnastics, Scottish accent and delivery make it impossible to ignore what you say.
3. Your perspective is - at least in my humble opinion - because you almost always agree with me and thus obviously have an intellect of the highest quality - is spot on and a nice cathartic; a powerful cleanser of the palate - in the face of so much that is distasteful in movie land and basically falls under the heading - of pure shyte!

The Fast movies are refreshing for the same reason top gun maverick, avatar 2, John wick and most recently Sisu were such a breath of fresh air: the complete lack of cynicism and the fact that they actually respect their audience. Now I wouldn’t say fast & furious are anywhere near as good as the other films I named but it’s nice having a film franchise like it that’s dumb for its own sake rather than dumb due to a lack of care and actually lets it’s heroes be heroes and aspirational for once.

One thing I noticed about the Fast and Furious films, is that they do car stunts well. They may not make scientific sense, but they look great. I remember after the un-numbered chapter, that kinda relaunched the series, there was a James Bond film and a Die Hard film, that tried to have an over the top chase scene. I remember thinking that even though the films were supposed to be more serious, the car stunts didn't seem nearly as entertaining. In fact, the chase scenes in both cases seemed tacked on. F&F is a good example of doing one thing well. Also, the main cast has charm. They are enjoyable to watch. This the subversion of expectation, that I don't mind - taunting your logical brain, after it has been turned off & showing you how much they can outdo themselves from the last movie. They reward you for turning off your brain.
F&F uses tons of CGI in their car action sequences. Bond and Die Hard almost avoids them to a fault. Traditional car stunts just can't hold up without a ton of pyrotechnics/CGI and we've becoming acclimated to the spectacle they provide.

I think the big difference between the fast and furious franchise and so many other modern movies is that the fast and furious franchise is not pretentious. They don't even make any attempt to appear clever or even just make sense. They know that every non-action scene is essentially just filler to get to the next action scene and the plot is just a thin excuse to loosely link the action scenes together in a way that kind of makes some little sense. And they don't pretend it's any other way.

I mean, they’re great fun, in an ‘okay you cannot do that with a car no matter how hard you try’ kind of way- just suspend realistic beliefs for about 120 minutes and it’s actually decent films with no realistic expectations going in and you’ll come out pretty pleased.
Maybe it’s all the nitrous fumes he’s huffed in the last few decades.
I somewhat sympathize with him, solely because I think F&F is more kino than something like Black Panther.
The one thing he has though with F&F franchise is, years later people still know them, watch them and enjoy them. All while most Oscar winning films are barely remembered. He should embrace that instead of hoping for acknowledgement from the stuck up twats of the Academy.
They are inspiring and I can tell you right now, I don't know or have ever seen 90% of that crap they give Oscars for. I'd rather see Fast and the Furious franchise get it then ...Wakanda Forever, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, West Side Story (like that was something to re-awarded), Tenet, and others. I mean I have re watched, enjoyed, and took more lessons on the importance of the people around me and how people who are your real family would act and fight for you from F and F than the one time I watched the Oscar winning Suicide Squad, yes the 2016 one. If the aforementioned crap above can get one, then F and F should most certainly have one by now.
The oscars is pretentious
There was once a time when the Fast and Furious franchise was kind of serious...and then they made a sequel. Critics everywhere called it dumb, stupid, and ridiculous, but the fans loved how fun it was.
And so the creators decided to see just how dumb, stupid, ridiculous, and FUN they could make it.
I salute people who make movies for the critics. I never watch those movies, but I salute em who make em.
The curious thing is that "2Fast 2Furious" now looks way more serious than the last few entries in the franchise. Roman was an actual character instead of a eternal comic relief and I still consider the warehouse scene one of the Top 10 moments of the saga. As a guy who likes cars and don't drink a lot, I don't have the Drinker's ability to kill my brain cells in order to watch the films in the post-Walker phase.
We are on the verge of Idiocracy. Next the Critical Drinker will review the Butt film and give it high regards as a fun film that you can turn your brain off and enjoy.
i want time travel and space. Fast and Furious - Alpha Centuri
@@ScottCleve33 Oh no, people are enjoying a movie that was made purely for action and enjoyment, how terrible
Momoa had me nearly in tears. Guy had a blast making this.
You know I really kind of want to watch the entire series now.
I was reading a list of feats and powers Dom has displayed through the movies. I completely forgot Dom got the ability to see the past perfectly by looking at some tire marks ok the ground and then never used it again.
You don't need to see in the past when you got Family
I think one of the most admirable qualities of these films is that they are fun... consistently. After so many movies obviously they had some misteps and dips... but they were always fun. It's a series where everyone is on the same page about what it's trying to be and even if it's not objectively good quality... there is a very good quality in consistently delivering exactly what you try to do. rather than haughty directors trying to "subvert" your expectations with sub-optimal results, these guys are meeting your expectations. It's like a friend whose not the funniest, smartest, or most entertaining guy to be around, but he never flakes on your invites, he always shows up when you need help with something, and he never mistreats you or talks behind your back. It's that dependability that endears people to this franchise.
The movie you can count on to help you move a couch if you bring the pizza
@@editingsecrets exactly!
I think I watched up until the 5th & never touched the franchise again. Even for rewatches.
These are also spectacles that are so much better in the cinema, they are literally keeping the cinema experience alive with booming sound and massive screens, they simply don't work on the small screen. Working in a media shop I can tell you nobody bought Fast movies on disk, just like nobody bought Avatar, yet as movies in the movie business they are extremely important in keeping cinemas open, the summer fun spectacle is very important in movie history.
Honestly they're a complete snooze fest. Haven't had genuine fun watching a FF movie in years. FF used to be enjoyed for the vibe, now they're only good for shiny poster material and nothing else. The old ones still bring joy, new ones are just soulless cashgrabs
My favorite part was when he said "IT'S FAMILY TIME", and then he familied all over those guys. 🤣😂
That was literally the best commentary of an action movie franchise that I've ever heard in my life. Spot on.
The series has been going on so long my son grew up into a huge fan, and now we share this nonsense together even though he is now grown up. It gave me an excuse to introduce him to the original Point Break, and that led to watching many of the best classics of the 1980's and 1990's. No matter how dumb or silly it gets, I am thankful for movies like this.
The original Point Break, the one that started it all. ❤️
I dream of having that kind of life with my kids. You're living the dream, good sir.
This is the best comment I've read in a while, maybe the best example that justifies these movies.
It’s still crazy to think that in all the post 7 movies, Brian is just chilling
Yeah, l love that they didn't k!ll off the Brian character, but it's pretty hard to believe he's at home with the kids while his wife and best buds are out saving the world.
@@dannyknightblade4592 Brian like to be a stay at home dad who are we to judge🤣
Don't worry, I'm sure they've just been waiting for AI technology to get advanced enough to bring him back. Because you know Hollywood will do exactly that. "You mean we don't have to pay actors?"
What happened to his and Mia's son? Is he chilling with Brian?
@@jasonrhodes9726 I guess so.
You called it. I didn't like the last two movies, and I went to catch Fast 10 simply because I was having a bad week and wanted something I could check my brain at the door. And I actually came out pretty entertained and enjoyed myself a lot more than I thought I would. It's never going to be anyone's idea of a great movie, but it knows what it is and sticks to its guns with confidence, a wink and a grin. The few character moments were much better done and felt sincere and heartfelt. Charlize Theron was really channeling her Atomic Blonde character and you really can see how committed to her action scenes. She didn't get a lot of screen time, but she stole every scene she was in. Brie Larson was actually quite pleasant to watch, and playing a smarmy, cocksure know-it-all character really works in her favour this time. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their time onscreen (especially Jason Momoa) and there's better chemistry among the characters. It knows it's a meme and running gag by now, and instead of shying away from that, it embraces its own foibles with gusto. And I guess they took the words 'going out with a bang' quite literally with the way it ended.
Ngl this movie is actually fun, it doesn't have best script writing, best acting, realism, it's just Entertaining and Fun. Jason Momoa definitely did a great job and made this movie even better. And this is coming from someone who loves the first 3 movies, like the subtle start of this movie is how we also started FnF1 with the same parking lot Brian did and stuff, all the callbacks too.
But I agree, this movie is just action packed, and entertaining, and to me that's enough to have a fun time in a movie that's suppose to entertain.
I said my goodbyes to the F&F "franchise" after Paul Walker, but seeing it devolve into the car equivalent of Sharknado was... something
Crazy to think the first film was about a simple street racing racket. I remember seeing it in theaters. Lol
And we all figured Pitch Black the year before would take off more. And fuck the haters I love those movies.
I got to the theater a little late and missed the opening scene.
The first thing I saw was Jason Momoa opening his eyes underwater, so I missed his introduction as Reyes's son and the back of Alan Ritchson's head.
I have to say that this made the movie better for me.
Can’t believe they didn’t call the movie:
FAST 10 YOUR SEATBELTS
A damn waste.
🚪😂
I remember the original Fast and the Furious where it was a simple street racing/heist/undercover movie that worked.
Yep, the original fans lose in this situation
This was great, thanks for your warmth of youthful sensibility!
Maaan, I remember how hyped I was about these movies in the elementary school and how hard I wanted Vin Diesel to reapear as Dom Toreto. There were like 3 movies by the time I was done with school and then they just started making them almost every year like it was nothing. Anyways, the whole video you just made is EXACTLY how I feel about this franchise nowadays, and I STILL love it.
I'll always remember laughing my ass off at the 100 mile runway scene with the cargo plane that took like 15 minutes to take off.
Hearing Drinker say no one ever really dies in these movies hurt my soul just a bit.
Rest In Peace Mr. Walker. Rest In Peace
6:21 this is why the Drinker is the most trustworthy critic ever...honesty. No grudges, just tells it like it is.
👌 So True
One of your best reviews ( I like 'em all ) imho, mostly because i feel the same way about the franchise. Thanks for keepin' on keepin' on. Peace!
I unironically love how dumb these movies are. I agree with "sometimes dumb is fun" and this to me feels like those old dumb 90's early 2000's movies I used to love as a teen. Sure takes me back to better time...
You should try the Butt movie. They loved it in Idiocracy.
@@ScottCleve33 Doesn't sound interesting to me.

I get notifications for your videos a week late. Even though your one of my favorite channels... That's very telling.
When you actually look at it from a non critical, this is just fun kind of vibe.. this was such a fun film.
The Fast and Furious movies used to be a guilty pleasure of mine. Now, there is no more "guilty" qualifier. In this clown world we live in, these movies are a breath of fresh air, and I didn't realize how badly I was gasping...
Watching F&F franchise is just like playing a game with all cheat codes unlocked, it still follow the story narratively, but still having fun with the amount of ridiculous things activated from cheat codes along the way 😁
You summed up exactly why I love these movies.
The plot twist is that Dom is actually in a coma and this is all fantasy
Drinker, you NAILED IT with Mamoa's performance being the love child of Jack Sparrow and The Joker. I said that same thing during the movie.🤣🤣🤣
*CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow
I still say fast and the furious: tokyo drift was a excellent movie. Real cars and real stunts! And some of the driving was amazing....
The first three movies also Tokyo drift, was the best the rest is utter dogshit.
Car dudes like the first 3. Marvel/Transformers fans like the rest.
It was boring as hell
@@ThatisnotHair its literally a movie about street racing. sorry your attention span got destroyed with the fast and furious franchise
Tokyo drift was aight but I respect because if it hadn’t happened, we wouldn’t be on 10. 8 and 9 were terrible. 4-5-6 is the best trilogy
Having recently rewatched all of these in preparation for the release of Fast X (in glorious 4K UHD!), it has certainly been an interesting journey. The first one was semi serious, effectively a remake of Point Break with cars instead of surfboards. What surprised me a little is that they started leaning into the campiness as early as the second movie, when they jumped a car onto a boat. The drinker perfectly encapsulated the series, it’s dumb fun and knows what it is and what its audience wants… keep ‘em coming!
To be fair, absorbing previous antagonists is exactly what Dragon Ball and DBZ did which worked awesome!
The drinker, your philosophical take on this movie was much more impactful than you might expect, thank you for it
It's just plain MIND-BLOWING how much these films have actually... well, pretty much DEFIED the shifting cinematic landscape by just being and doing their own thing the whole time, all while not falling into the "woke" trap in particular. What's even MORE mind boggling is that it turned out for the best that they kept that way in the long run.
Fast X was progressive woke trash (in comparison to its past), but since its not Lord of the Ring or Star wars or some comic book adaptation, all the boomer fu cks have no issues as to how they have wokified this franchise
What's the definition of woke to you? Anything you don't like?
@@Astro2024 anything thats emasculating a previously masculine franchise
you should know, youre completely emasculated
It’s had a diverse cast since day one and always felt genuine
@@elbowjuice2627 yeah diverse, but it was a male centric franchise, where men do most of the fighting and driving

7:00 Oh fuck. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and unfortunately still live here. I wouldn’t set my movie here either. 😆😩😔
Fast Furious is like the Oprah of Movies, "you get an Actor, you get an actor, and you get an actor! with a free supporting actor who is completely irrelevant!"
I'm so happy for Ritchson. The guy so deserves the stardom.
Very happy for him dude is here since "Blue Mountain State" and only start to be know now
I was asking myself who that guy was… first time i saw him in anything
I remember him in Blue Mountain State and Hunger Games Catching Fire. I'm glad he's been doing an image reinvention with Reacher and now this one.
