One of 2 South African UFC fighters, Dricus Du Plessis is one fight away from reaching the pinnacle of mixed martial arts, being the champion of the world. From Pretoria, South Africa, Dricus has always participated in different martial arts. From making his debut at the age of just 18, to becoming a 2 weight champion in Africa, KSW middleweight champion, beating the legendary Robert Whittaker, and fighting for the UFC middleweight championship on January 20th, 2024. Dricus Du Plessis’s is one like no other.

Nice video. I watched a Du Plessis interview where he clarified that he sustained his foot injury near the end of his training camp. He got medical attention and determined he would still fight Whitaker as he had done enough prep before getting injured. The first kick thrown in that fight was to test his foot. With the adrenalin he was confident to get through the fight. After the win he declined the Izzy fight because he reasoned it was not wise to commence a training camp until that ankle injury was sorted out.

He was not born in Pretoria, he was born in Welkom, they moved to Hartebeespoort when he was 11 which is a bit outside of Pretoria. He now lives in Pretoria and trains there. DDP will be champ at UFC297!

If you asked me before that fight, I'd say Strickland has no chance against du plessis. Right now, not so sure. Going to depend on who turns up on the night
I think he just has a style that counters Adasanyas point fighting. Squared, good checks and walking forward like a zombie technique.

As a DDP fan, Sean is really good but not the Floyd Mayweather of MMA as his fans make him out to be.
DDP is great for a couple rounds. After that he’s gassed.
As far as your assessment of Adesanya I agree; he’s incredibly inconsistent. You may get champion Izzy or you may get lazy Izzy.
Fight Island isn't "infamous", it's famous, or renowned. Possibly even notorious, but not infamous.
If Dricus was born in 94' he was 18 in when he won WAKO, a matriculant. And he was born in Welkom, Free State province. His parents moved closer to Pretoria, Gauteng province during his younger years.
