This is such a great question, I had to get out the punch pin and hammer to find out. It is 1 pound, 2.4 ounces / ~522g. By comparison, my LH9 slide (which is a 1911 style affair) is only 10.4 ounces / ~295g. The P5 seen in the video is only 10 ounces / ~283g. So, the Hi Point slide is almost double the weight of a locked breech type slide.

I’m looking for a 380 right now for my wife I figure it’s gonna be so heavy it wouldn’t have much recoil also looking for 380 carbine for same reason for her lol
to be honest,, a woman should have no problem shooting a hi point 40. i know they r heavy but the recoil is absolutely non aggressive. 4+1/2 in barrel and heavy = easy to handle or no hard recoil. the 1 st time i shot it i was impressed with the lower recoil.
Absolutely love my C9. No problems of any kind. Love the name given in another comment. This now my "cast iron frying pan gun". Get one; you will love it!
Good video, there is a level of genius in the Hipoint design. Extremely durable with a high level of accuracy attributable to the fixed barrel. All that heavy coating on the slide is very rugged, much more than higher end pistols. Top it off with very serviceable and adjustable sights, and the Hipoint is a remarkably shootable design.
Inexpensive guns that most people can swing even on a tight budget. 100% USA made & sourced. The added benefit of that chunky slide is it reduces felt recoil dramatically. Yeah, they actually tried to do that with the new Yeet Cannon, which hasn't been released yet. But the way these mags work is so weird, they'd have to completely redesign the gun from the ground up to be able to work with glock mags. So.... sadly no go.

Nicely done. You have to give HiPoint firearms the credit they are due. They make inexpensive and reliable firearms that literally ANYBODY can afford. Call me crazy but I like the way the C9 looks-it has a genuinely different look and feel. People who own HiPoints, with rare exception, love them. Most of the haters have never even held one, let alone shot one. There is a place for expensive firearms and there is a place for inexpensive ones. If you go to their website they have some text where they talk about the vision for the company that is pretty interesting. They do what they say and they say what they do. Plus, it is good to know that these are made in America.
@@theasin_old this the same guy that literally torture tested one, including shooting it with another gun, and couldn't get it to fail? Yeah all he did was give hi point a big boost by proving they fire no matter what. He can hate them all he wants. Doesn't seem to be able to break them though
This video is interesting because it's both informative (about other guns) and lacking (on some important Hi Point details). There's another similar video where the creator describes how this gun works, and the materials, without the quips, references to "pot metal" (he described exactly the makeup of the alloy), and he must have had a better experience with the C9 than you did because he did not advise that we could expect lots of FTF's, and bad reliability. In fact, there was a detailed overview of why the fixed barrel design results in the gun having good accuracy, and the slide weight reducing felt recoil.
The worst that could happen is it breaks/dead trigger and you send it in for repairs other than that unless you are messing with the recoil spring nothing could go wrong and there is no way it could become unsafe. Though if it somehow runs away keep it aimed at your target till it runs out of ammo and again the only worry about a runaway would be messing with the recoil spring not the sear spring as a extra power recoil spring could break the sear if it hits hard enough and fast enough turning it into a full auto gun which wears down the breach block fast compromising the seal of the bullet which could blow up the gun. Now how long it would take for the breach to break i don't know could be a month of wearing it down in full auto for all i know. Usually if a runaway occurs that means something malfunctioned in the gun and usually it is the recoil spring so replace it and you are good to go. Now it is only illegal if you choose to not take action and remove the faulty part as then you would have a unregistered Machinegun that can blow up on you if you shoot it too much as it was not meant to slam that hard into Zamak 3 and granted it may not actually harm you or kill you but your gun will be inoperable if it actually blows up. And the reason why i say i don't know when it would break is because Hi-Points can take a lot of abuse to break and at other times can break with ease. Now i know you are more worried about runaways but you really don't have to be if you have a lighter sear spring in unless using really hot rounds that forces the firing pin past the sear due to the spring due to the spring being light and usually that is just custom reloads or if the bullet is pushed into the case too much
Fantastic video! I’ve always wanted someone to do an in-depth video of the innards of a hi-point and how it is made/works. Good job! Hope to see future videos on weapon tear downs!
ZAMAK-3 is not a "low quality" material. It's a less expensive alloy that has great strength, toughness and durability for certain applications. The slide of the C9 doesn't require the stress resistance of steel, but it does require weight for the blowback operation to function, both are achieved with ZAMAK, all at a lower cost. I fully expect my reliable 1998 C9 to last far past my lifetime.
Well, as a casting alloy, Zamak-3 is really good. As a zinc alloy, Zamak-3 is pretty great. However, when counted among all materials, it's on the lower quality side. As I mentioned in the video, the main part of the slide that takes all of the abuse is strengthened with a steel insert. You are correct that most of the slide doesn't need to be particularly strong. The Zamak-3 is mostly there to be easily cast, and be heavy. It's great at that, but that doesn't make it high quality either.
Just like everything else in life not everyone lives in a 500k house drives a 75k car. Hi Point is the common man/woman's firearm simple, affordable ,and effective. Us HiPoint owner aren't carrying it to impress someone looking down the barrel with the magnificent craftsmanship and flashy design, we're carrying it to handle business.

Great video, thanks for the close up look at the guts of these things. For anyone who cares the "plumbus" is called the "slide retainer" - I had to look that up but I feel better now that I know.....
Even on cheap blank guns the breech face and the part behind it where the cartridge in the mag rides along it when the slide is pushed back is made out of a steel insert. Zinc will deform easily and it just so happens that a hole is in the breech face. Doh the firing pin hole. After a while, it could deform and not be round anymore, hindering the firing pin/striker moving forward and not igniting the round anymore. On blank guns without a steel breech face that can happen just after a few hundred rounds. Also you can shoot steel case ammo and brass case and so on. Steel cases will destroy a zinc breech face in no time. Cast parts can also be machined in areas where necessary. For example on the slide rails where a bit more exact tolerances have to be kept. So you can see machining marks on cast parts as well.
Awesome video. I never knew you had to punch out a roll pin to disassemble the pistols. Just a quick mention… out of battery detonations with pistol calibers are usually not too big of a deal. Especially in unlocked firearms like a blowback pistol… simply put pressure will never get high enough to damage the gun or really hurt the shooter. Usually it’s extracting under pressure and at some point the case will rupture at an unsupported location. Ian from Forgotten Weapons mentions this and even shows video of an out of battery detonation in a sub gun. If you’re interested the video is called “why and how guns explode” or something to that effect. He talks about out of and in battery detonations and specifically Kentucky Ballistic’s .50cal SLAP detonation that destroyed his Serbu and almost killed him. Very interesting.
I always had a problem with 8 rounds in the mag, they were the original magsbut if I loaded 7 I had no problem when racking the slide, other than that I had no problems 15 years ago when I had one, some light primer strikes on tula ammo only. Plus you could beat someone with it after you ran out of ammo!!
I always download my hi Point mags down 1 round. They do seem to run much better doing so. I've had great luck with all their guns. And their customer service is the best in the business.
I just bought a c9 first time I shot the gun I had to stuff the 8 round in. I took it out and shot 7 . I've put 80 rounds through it no jams and plenty accurate enough. I like this 169.00 pistol. I think most of the bad comments are BS.
Very cool. Thank you for showing the safety operation. My sense is that (assuming it doesn't easily sweep off unintentionally) it is adequate for carry with a loaded chamber. I would love it if you did a detailed video like this on lubricating the C9 and suggested lubes. (Frog Lube?)
The safety is so-so. It's safe-ish. It could be knocked off accidentally, but so could a lot of safeties. This gun is huge and heavy and not good for carry. Lube is lube. Grease is good around the recoil spring and in the channel with the plombus. That's about it.
Well done! Lol. I don't own a Hi Point but I now know more about it than my Glock. All guns should have a Plombus. In fact most mechanical systems should adopt a Plombus. Plombus is now in my predictive text.
It’s actually a very interesting design but the downside to it seems to be the casting and if you got a hi point that shoots well that means you’ve gotten good casting!
I've seen alot of hi point videos but nothing like this. It is the perfect combination knowledge and humor lol. That said the beauty is in the simplicity. I often find myself defending them against gun snobs. I have had several in the past and always sold them not because they didn't work, but because I got hard up for money I will get another and keep it. Honestly the new yeet 9mm does nothing for me and I will get the standard c9. They are very underrated usually by those that speak from second hand knowledge rather than personal experience
I had an Erma 22lr that looked a lot like the hi-point internally. I bought a 9mm hi-point for a truck and fishing gun, it is butt ugly but it is extremely reliable. After firing over 1000 rounds through mine I still like it but I wouldn’t recommend shooting +p rounds through it.

Miraculously.
Hell yes thank you! I don't want to take it apart it's a major pain. So I took it apart 😂
Great review my c9 is very reliable and powerful
that pistol made like VP70 😂😂
Cool video!
Use the upgrades clean and it is a great pistol very true
Well done! Lol. I don't own a Hi Point but I now know more about it than my Glock. All guns should have a Plombus. In fact most mechanical systems should adopt a Plombus. Plombus is now in my predictive text.
Can you make a full video of your carbine? Great video man. I subbed!
Thanks! I'll see what I can do.
It’s actually a very interesting design but the downside to it seems to be the casting and if you got a hi point that shoots well that means you’ve gotten good casting!
This is a pretty much a scaled up Jennings/Raven/Davis pistol
Rick and morty joke went over a lot of heads I see
Thumbs up!
It would be fun to have one with a steel slide & aluminium frame.
Yeah the .45 and 10mm are huge but as cheap as they are it's very hard to break them look at demo ranch tried breaking 100 of them pretty reliable
JXP10mm is Awesome...Great Shooter 0 issues!😊
I had an Erma 22lr that looked a lot like the hi-point internally. I bought a 9mm hi-point for a truck and fishing gun, it is butt ugly but it is extremely reliable. After firing over 1000 rounds through mine I still like it but I wouldn’t recommend shooting +p rounds through it.
"Inertially Enhanced" 😂🤣🤣
I’m working on my second under barrel flashlight mount prototype due to the fact they don’t make one for the c9 I own
No slide milling required
So you can just leave out that bar to remove the mag disconnect feature?
What cocking handle do you have on your carbine?
MCARBO, it's great!
I keep thinking about rick and morty when i hear plumbus
The design looks a lot like a Bryco 25.
The internals look very similar to the Jennings Ja22 and other ring of fire guns.
Is the same mecanism as the old raven .25 and jennins but the buffer or plumbus was cheap plastic
YIKES!!
A gun is a gun who cares about the looks 💯
1:40 is kind of a myth. The spring absorbs the energy of the recoiling bolt or slide; it doesn't contribute anything to the early phase of the cycle.
How much the magazine
The 8 round magazine is less than $20.
Best video on the ugliest gun made.
What is the coating on the mags?
They are blued... in some way or another.
@@firydeth I have some old ones and they look like plain steel.
@@rtz549 sounds plausible. I used "blued" in the very minimal sense.
Fun fact the thing you keep calling a plumbus is called a bolt retainer but let's just call it a plumbus it sounds more funny
18:35
Yes.
You get what you pay for...
Looks like a BB gun ..
So... the C9 is engineered like a last-ditch wartime gun?
That's probably not far off!
I thought it was a boomerang that hurts when you actually catch it
Like the simpler M3 submachine gun that replaced the 1928 Tommy gun!
Enjoyed the detailed video.
Still would never myself or recommend anyone buy one.
My feelings remain unhurt.
Так вот для чего нужен плюмбус!
Most of these CZcams gun "specialists" that criticize the HiPoint never been in the military, they're all posers and wannabees
looking for a threaded JHP 45 barrel.. see them all over for Glocks.. who has Hi Points??
Check out Cheaper than Dirt, they have everything you need in Highpoint.
Gen 2 JHP45 out now has Threaded Barrel!😊
Good guns, compared to the garbage from Kel-Tec.
Nothing better then sound of the magazine falling out of the handle of a C-9 while it’s holstered
Stop calling that part a plombus! It's called the dildus.
Looks like some kind of battery operated space gun…and you overpaid BIGTIME!…lol
