    Tara knows nothing. Mao is a legend. She's the rare type of performer who keeps evolving. She doesn't conform, she's always trying something new, always working hard. Not connecting to the audience? Watch her Sochi FS, it's raw emotion.

      SquishyTeli that programme should have broken the world record. The best free skate I have seen (together with Yuna's les mis at 2013 Worlds) - I love Mao and all her imperfections. :)

      Ugh RIGHT?!? The whole time I was thinking wtf does Tara know about connecting to music or an audience? She wouldn’t know emotionally motivated choreo if it bit her in the backside. Also, her repeatedly bringing up the 3A rotation 🙄 shes just jealous

      I agree, its funny when Tara mentioned Mao is missing connecting to the audience and I’m like hmmmm Tara has no slightest idea what shes saying....any program of Tara in the past has no sense of connecting to the audience.

    The triple axel looked fine to me. Even Tara who was attacking her throughout the program said, "I think it was all the way around." when she was looking at the instant replay. I really don't trust tech crews. There often seems to be an "agenda" or "reputational scoring" component (RCS instead of PCS) to their decisions that belies the actual jump itself.
    According to these announcers, sincerity and spare elegance these days in skating is taken as a lack of artistry, while an ear to ear smile and overwrought expressions and gestures are necessary for high art.
    I am so grateful for Mao that she stayed faithful to herself and always gave the audience genuine performances with triple axels, incredibly flexible spirals and spins, balletic flow and motion in and out of her jumps, which have beautifully symmetrical quick whipsaw spirals, dynamic and acrobatic step sequences, her profound spiritual element that somehow connects with human experience which she expressed so well in the Sochi LP, and genuine, elegant expressions. If you look closely at her photos, Mao has one of the widest ranges of expressions you will ever find.
    To me, Mao is more mythical, magical, athletic and emotional: she is the Ballerina Phoenix who arose from the disastrous ashes of her Sochi SP to give the greatest performance in history at Sochi and then carried that greatness into Worlds 2014 just as she did here in 2010. Yet, she doesn't even get 200 points in 2010 Worlds and merely gets 3rd place in the freeskate at Sochi. These scores are absurd, so I don't take them seriously. .

    • @joaocampelo3725
      @joaocampelo3725 Před 4 lety +8

      Ohh.. I never agreed more with a comment!!! Mao is a mythic creature. She’s an angel, a devil when she wants (Vancouver free skate) and she’s a dream skater!! Judges are so wrong.. I think there’s so much behind those scores.. Mao deserves more than that.

Unfortunately, Mao, as great a skater as she is (and she is one of the greatest I've ever seen), has to share the spotlight with another great skater (Yuna), when under any other circumstances, she would be considered the greatest.
