I think skating is boring most of the time because skaters pick boring music in major chords and they're always safe and boring (redundant, I know). Mao picked such a dramatic piece and filled the room with her fire. She melds the rise and fall of the music perfectly with her artistic expression and her power moves. I see where you're coming from. I'm a figure skating fan DESPITE the music, not because of it; coaches usually choose the same 10 pieces of music, almost always with horrible cuts and terrible editing. That said, there are some skaters who bring music to life, and have the rare gift of making their performances memorable. Mao was the best of them IMHO.
This program is incomparable. It is deep music with courageous choreography and mind blowing skating by Mao.Technically only the judges knew why her score did not shoot up the roof but the overall affect in the eyes of skating fans is that it is impressive in a HUGE way.
There are some wonderful skaters in the world. But there are not so many those who could touch my heart by the performance. Whenever I see Mao’s performance , tears form in my eyes. Incredible, graceful and soulful!! You are the queen in figure skating .
Best skate of all time. This is a masterpiece. The drama and passion, perfection of execution, difficulty and uniqueness is unequaled by any other skater ever. This powerfully delivers the message to never give up but fight to the death through life's difficulties until you succeed and it inspired me unbelievabIy. I jumped out of my chair and watched in amazement the first time I saw this history making performance on TV, wondering who was this ninja, warrior queen. Now I am Mao Asada's biggest fan.
I watch Yuna for her jumps. But Mao, I watch for the elegance, her triple axels, her spins, her spirals and her intense footwork sequences. Mao will forever be my favorite skater in the world.
The problem here is that back in 2010 the IJS simply did not place that much importance on the triple axel in terms of point content. As is evident, this jump has only been landed by one other lady besides Mao Asada since the 2010 Olympics Games, which is a testament to its extreme difficulty --- even in comparison to a good triple lutz, which 80 % of the senior ladies can do successfully; only fewer than 1% of them can do the triple axel. Thus, I believe that the triple axel, if landed successfully, should garner at least a base point of 10 in the women's competition. :)
I don't think skaters will put the triple axel in unless Elizavetta and Mao start landing them consistently and winning because of it. Right now it's almost the Achilles heel of their programs because they focus so much on the one jump that the rest of the program falls flat if they miss it. For the others, it's a big risk to take and not worth it if you can win without it. I believe many of them train it though in case the time comes.
I was there 10 Years ago watching my hero skating and now i'm here watching this video and i think that nobody will take her place in my heart As the best figure skater in the world . I hope she's fine and that she knows how important she was , she is for me :)

Mao Asada was a genius on the ice. Most skaters would have been overpowered by this music, with such "gravitas", but not Mao. An interpretive genius ...
i love this program and this performance i find her shining with confidence, there simply is no hesitation and she really shows great attack. love how she does every element so perfectly makes it look so easy and her one handed biellman spin was exquisite, and she really has some guts by doing not one but TWO 3A..
The judges were always tough on full rotation as this was the period that they added a technical expert to the judging panel. Watch Sarah Hughes during her gold and you can see some jumps in her double doubles that didn’t land with full rotation, ( still deserved gold). As a choreographed piece this was bold, brooding, dramatic, and completely unique. This was a Russian piece of art and the diva in Mao rose to the occasion with fierce mastery.
Sooner or later, many female skaters will carry out 3A or quads. Then Mao Asada will have true glory. Of course she was a top athlete, but it's not important only results but challenge and courage.
her technicality are really great like her biellman spiral. she's the most flexible among the competitors..congrats MaO i hope you will aim high next year and be the world's figure skating champion again!

A couple of days ago, when you cried just after long program, i did together cuz i could sense how massive pressure you had been carrying. I really love this program, the music is exquisite, the performance just perfection. A masterpiece from the most gifted skater....It's Art on ice!!!!!!!!!!
this show her vancouver score was way over-scored. but no one gave a damn coz yuna beat her. sp she never break 66 marks since 2007 outside home after growth spurt. lol she got what 74?. clean here 129? and 132 after 2 major mistake? Don't forget 09 teb! less mistake and she got 115! since when mao break 200 mark after 2 major mistake? just watch her gpf 2007 which is lot better she got 132! of course 2x UR and 1x 2- foot landing never caught. 138 with small mistake at 2014 world which is based on her infamous home record. Which shows 142 is already way too generous. If You judge 142 on 2010 scoring system, mao would be lucky break 135 mark.
***** you gotta be kidding.. Yuna was perfect, but Mao had some errors on this performance. FYI, she didn't take first place in Sochi FS because she had several URs and other errors.
girolle01 why is it Kim's fault? she had no chance in Sochi when they were rigging the scores any way they can just to keep Kim down even she skated clean. Kim's technicality should be higher than Adelina and the rest actually. She was the only one who skated flawlessly, meaning no errors in her performance. Mao, Caro and Adelina all had errors in their jumps. Just check the score sheets.
Daisuke Takahashi recently said in an interview Mao's step is so good and he respects her. We usually think Daisuke's step is the greatest, however, "Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself, but talent instantly recognizes genius." Tara also loves her step sequence.
In this peerless performance, the innocent princess transforms into a desperate, nimble angel firing wildly rotating lightning bolts from gyrating limbs during her dire step sequence (1). She is bewitching and beguiling in her cat-like agility, as she springs into the air with a twin attack of triple axels, and an exquisite flurry of spinning rotations that are synonymous with feline finesse. She strikes bizarre behind-the back, peek-a-boo and mask-like poses through black gloves with her arms and hands like figures out of Picasso’s modernist paintings: Les Demoiselles d’Avignon and Three Women. Her sultry spiral sequence begins with the prima ballerina performing a beautifully limber cross grab one-handed Biellman, followed by a nimble transition into a picturesque arabesque: with her legs stretched almost fully perpendicular to the ice, just as they are when she leans far back into a statuesque fan spiral. In this sequence, her black gloved hands reach desperately to the sky, as if to ask the Almighty why someone so young and vital must fight so hard to stay alive. As for spins, she drops into a crouching position, crosses one leg on her knee, fully extends her arms upward and locks her hands far above her head, before rising upright and extending her legs up 90 degrees to the ice in a rapidly revolving leg extension. During this spin, she places her black gloved hand just above her head, which is prostrate to the sky, like an ill-omened halo pronouncing her dark fate in life. Then, she wraps her head and leg sideways around her back in a doughnut, drops into a sit spin with her legs extended lower than parallel to the sitting position, before fully extending her head and right leg all the way up behind her back in a one-handed Bielmann. During this spin, she pulls her black gloved hand in flush against her chest, cups her finger tips upward and opens her mouth to the sky, as if entreating the Almighty for a drink from the River of Life. For me, these are the most dramatic, elegant and flexible spins and spirals I have ever seen. The poses she strikes are like great modernist art works. In my opinion, the heavy, plodding, desperate and dirge-like drone of Bells of Moscow (Prelude in C Sharp Minor) has a profoundly somber and masculine tone that contrasts sharply with Mao's highly feminine, ethereal and tender nature, thus offending the sensibilities of those accustomed to her Fantasie Impromptu, Czardas or Clare de Lune performances. It is such a sharp break that many of her fans can’t take it; it undermines her effervescent image, almost as if they are witnessing the Fall of Mankind (or in this case Eve not Adam) in the Garden of Eden. In addition, her heavy make-up, the black gloves and her blood red and black costume further enhances this sense of lost innocence, with her prodigal passion and dark abandon fully on display in her alluring poses and contortionism in the spins and step sequences. She stalks the rink stealthily like a wild cat on the prowl that hungers for life. Furthermore, the fact that her performance and skating seethes slowly like burning coal with no ultimate climax and release as in Sochi further frustrates the viewer’s expectations. The tension that builds is never really released; it seems to just grow heavier and heavier like Atlas bearing the whole weight of the world on his shoulders; until abruptly at the end the entire weight is dropped like a lead ball with the deep gong of the bell. Throughout the performance, a sense of apprehension mounts into smoldering anxiety that ends in interminable desperation, impeccably matching the sense of entrapment in the music. She powerfully portrays Rachmaninoff's inspiration for the composition- his nightmare of being buried alive at such a young age, as he gazes in horror into the depths of a coffin at a funeral and imagines himself the deceased desperately fighting for life as he pounds on the lid for release. Seen in this sense, the choker she wears around her neck displays entrapment. To me, her stunning costume and performance of the choreography is pure genius: a revolutionary artistic and dramatic “prelude,” no pun intended, to the tragic grandeur we see in Sochi. In other words, to experience the rich beauty of tragedy and redemption, there first needs to be a fall, and Bells for me is Mao’s first descent into tasting the fruits of the darker side of artistic expression. Besides, she is so very beautiful here: the quintessential Dark Angel. Her skating in Bells is a consummate Modern Art performance: her beautifully bizarre poses and movements combined with her desperate expressions are a moving representation of the Cubism found in Picasso's paintings. This performance is also one of the greatest examples I have seen of synchronicity, or a series of meaningful coincidences. Mao skated to Bells of Moscow on March 27, 2010: the eve of the anniversary for Rachmaninoff's death which was on March 28, 1943 and the composition is about a young person desperately seeking to escape death. Furthermore, Mao skated to Rachmaninoff's 2nd concerto on March 29, after breaking the record in the SP on March 27, 2014. These are also Mao's most resounding victories in the World Championships, and in my opinion her two greatest overall performances (SP and LP). 1. I don't mind her not getting 150+ here. She should have beaten the WR in Sochi though, winning the free skate. That was the travesty of the ladies event.
I am delighted to say here Mao Asada proved me wrong! At the beginning of the season I really didn't like her two programs. I loved light, ballet, gentle Mao SO much in 2007/08 2008/09. I wasn't sure about "Bells of Moscow" or the SP but this performance is GENIUS, BEAUTIFUL! The step sequence has PASSION and techicallly SO hard. She certainly stepped up here. WELL DONE!!!!!!
i love this programme, many people think that this kind of music is too heave and it is contrary to Mao's style, somehow i found mao is capable of present the spirit of the "dark" , "strong" music. and isn't this what's called expressive. show sth that is not what one is born to be.

演者は演じやすい、観客は理解しやすい、審判は評価しやすい。
ここで振付のタラソワ女史と浅田選手やってのけたのはそれと真逆なこと。
既にある物語に依存することなく純粋にフィギュアスケートを通し一つの世界観を表現するという離れ業。浅田のどの所作をとっても無駄が無いだけでなくドラマを感じさせられる。まさに革命的プロ。二人の天才に感謝。

真央ちゃんの引退を知り、真っ先に観たくなったのはこの世界選手権の鐘です。バンクーバーもソチも良いけれど、個人的にはこの鐘が一番好きです。
フィギュアスケートの採点なんてカラオケみたいなもの。点数を伸ばすにはコツがあって、キム・ヨナはそれが上手いだけ。いろんな意味でね。でもそんな物で人の心に残る感動や芸術、演技は、生み出せない。
私は浅田真央のプログラムが大好きよ。

138 with small mistake at 2014 world which is based on her infamous home record. Which shows 142 is already way too generous. If You judge 142 on 2010 scoring system, mao would be lucky break 135 mark.

FYI, she didn't take first place in Sochi FS because she had several URs and other errors.

why is it Kim's fault? she had no chance in Sochi when they were rigging the scores any way they can just to keep Kim down even she skated clean. Kim's technicality should be higher than Adelina and the rest actually. She was the only one who skated flawlessly, meaning no errors in her performance. Mao, Caro and Adelina all had errors in their jumps. Just check the score sheets.

Daisuke Takahashi recently said in an interview Mao's step is so good and he respects her. We usually think Daisuke's step is the greatest, however, "Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself, but talent instantly recognizes genius." Tara also loves her step sequence.

真央ちゃんとキムヨナの演技を、見比べてみたら失敗してないのに点数は２位・・・どういう事なんでしょう。摩訶不思議ですよね～今年のソチではキム・ヨナの銀はおかしいとISUに不服申し立てて２００万人以上の署名を集めたとか・・・これこそメダル取るような演技だったかと思うくらいなのにね。笑えますよね。

In this peerless performance, the innocent princess transforms into a desperate, nimble angel firing wildly rotating lightning bolts from gyrating limbs during her dire step sequence (1). She is bewitching and beguiling in her cat-like agility, as she springs into the air with a twin attack of triple axels, and an exquisite flurry of spinning rotations that are synonymous with feline finesse. She strikes bizarre behind-the back, peek-a-boo and mask-like poses through black gloves with her arms and hands like figures out of Picasso’s modernist paintings: Les Demoiselles d’Avignon and Three Women. Her sultry spiral sequence begins with the prima ballerina performing a beautifully limber cross grab one-handed Biellman, followed by a nimble transition into a picturesque arabesque: with her legs stretched almost fully perpendicular to the ice, just as they are when she leans far back into a statuesque fan spiral. In this sequence, her black gloved hands reach desperately to the sky, as if to ask the Almighty why someone so young and vital must fight so hard to stay alive.
As for spins, she drops into a crouching position, crosses one leg on her knee, fully extends her arms upward and locks her hands far above her head, before rising upright and extending her legs up 90 degrees to the ice in a rapidly revolving leg extension. During this spin, she places her black gloved hand just above her head, which is prostrate to the sky, like an ill-omened halo pronouncing her dark fate in life. Then, she wraps her head and leg sideways around her back in a doughnut, drops into a sit spin with her legs extended lower than parallel to the sitting position, before fully extending her head and right leg all the way up behind her back in a one-handed Bielmann. During this spin, she pulls her black gloved hand in flush against her chest, cups her finger tips upward and opens her mouth to the sky, as if entreating the Almighty for a drink from the River of Life. For me, these are the most dramatic, elegant and flexible spins and spirals I have ever seen. The poses she strikes are like great modernist art works.
In my opinion, the heavy, plodding, desperate and dirge-like drone of Bells of Moscow (Prelude in C Sharp Minor) has a profoundly somber and masculine tone that contrasts sharply with Mao's highly feminine, ethereal and tender nature, thus offending the sensibilities of those accustomed to her Fantasie Impromptu, Czardas or Clare de Lune performances. It is such a sharp break that many of her fans can’t take it; it undermines her effervescent image, almost as if they are witnessing the Fall of Mankind (or in this case Eve not Adam) in the Garden of Eden.
In addition, her heavy make-up, the black gloves and her blood red and black costume further enhances this sense of lost innocence, with her prodigal passion and dark abandon fully on display in her alluring poses and contortionism in the spins and step sequences. She stalks the rink stealthily like a wild cat on the prowl that hungers for life. Furthermore, the fact that her performance and skating seethes slowly like burning coal with no ultimate climax and release as in Sochi further frustrates the viewer’s expectations. The tension that builds is never really released; it seems to just grow heavier and heavier like Atlas bearing the whole weight of the world on his shoulders; until abruptly at the end the entire weight is dropped like a lead ball with the deep gong of the bell. Throughout the performance, a sense of apprehension mounts into smoldering anxiety that ends in interminable desperation, impeccably matching the sense of entrapment in the music. She powerfully portrays Rachmaninoff's inspiration for the composition- his nightmare of being buried alive at such a young age, as he gazes in horror into the depths of a coffin at a funeral and imagines himself the deceased desperately fighting for life as he pounds on the lid for release. Seen in this sense, the choker she wears around her neck displays entrapment.
To me, her stunning costume and performance of the choreography is pure genius: a revolutionary artistic and dramatic “prelude,” no pun intended, to the tragic grandeur we see in Sochi. In other words, to experience the rich beauty of tragedy and redemption, there first needs to be a fall, and Bells for me is Mao’s first descent into tasting the fruits of the darker side of artistic expression. Besides, she is so very beautiful here: the quintessential Dark Angel.
Her skating in Bells is a consummate Modern Art performance: her beautifully bizarre poses and movements combined with her desperate expressions are a moving representation of the Cubism found in Picasso's paintings.
This performance is also one of the greatest examples I have seen of synchronicity, or a series of meaningful coincidences. Mao skated to Bells of Moscow on March 27, 2010: the eve of the anniversary for Rachmaninoff's death which was on March 28, 1943 and the composition is about a young person desperately seeking to escape death. Furthermore, Mao skated to Rachmaninoff's 2nd concerto on March 29, after breaking the record in the SP on March 27, 2014. These are also Mao's most resounding victories in the World Championships, and in my opinion her two greatest overall performances (SP and LP).

I thought this was one of Mao's worse programs because the tone of the music is so heavy and does not match up to her soft and souffle-like personality and image. Your interpretation of this program made me realize a lot of things such as Mao's amazingly unconventional artistry on Bells of Moscow's canvas.

ここで5.18点損失。ヨナ選手は3S転倒したものの真央選手よりTECは上。PCSはヨナ選手の方が、2.56点上。これを考慮しても140はいかない。おかしすぎる…！

Stunning performance. Should judges give her more 150+ with two 3A, geprgious spiral. Beautiful step and one hand spin! Mao's going to another level.
I don't mind her not getting 150+ here. She should have beaten the WR in Sochi though, winning the free skate. That was the travesty of the ladies event.

I am delighted to say here Mao Asada proved me wrong! At the beginning of the season I really didn't like her two programs. I loved light, ballet, gentle Mao SO much in 2007/08 2008/09. I wasn't sure about "Bells of Moscow" or the SP but this performance is GENIUS, BEAUTIFUL! The step sequence has PASSION and techicallly SO hard. She certainly stepped up here. WELL DONE!!!!!!

i love this programme, many people think that this kind of music is too heave and it is contrary to Mao's style, somehow i found mao is capable of present the spirit of the "dark" , "strong" music. and isn't this what's called expressive. show sth that is not what one is born to be.
