In this weeks episode we go to the Dentist in Mexico for dental care and make our way from Quartzsite, Arizona to Yuma, Arizona. While in Yuma we travel to Los Algodones Mexico, a small border town known for its plethora of dental offices and pharmacies. Dental care in Mexico has flourished for many years. In many ways Mexican dentistry is as good, if not better then, the dental work you get in the US. Just much, much cheaper. Good video. I was just there to see a couple of dentists for evaluations. Will be going back soon for the work.
I went 2 years ago to get 17 teeth pull and get dentures. I went 2 days. One day we waited in that line out for about an hour. The next day is the day I got my teeth pulled and the dentist told us to go to the front of the line they would let me go right way. That day the long was much shorter. If we would of gone to the back of line it would of be only about 10 minutes. Now I need to go back and get more work done. Thanks for the information.

Thank you! We used cash, but the dental office we went to accepts CC or checks. HSA probably may not work in Mexico.

This was a great video for all of us. Answered many questions I had. Interesting in your experience in dental cleaning in the states. My hygienist always uses the ultrasonic water pick and only picks up the manual tools if needed (like your Mexico experience). I guess it all depends on the hygienist. Thanks for sharing this.

Great video! Smart to walk over. Just watched a video of a couple that got the shakedown going over in a van. I was shocked when they headed on down Baja. You have to know where to cross for sure. They also were asked to erase their camera footage and someone told them to livestream next time...or at least say you did. And yes honesty is always the best policy~

Last time I was there, years before COVID, we waited 4 hours to get into Algodones and took just enough time to pick up his meds and get back in the long line to leave. After waiting that long, we did not take time to shop or eat.

Hi, I’m so happy to meet you. We’re looking to relocate to the area and this whole process is new to us! We also do not have dental insurance and need dental work. I was shocked to hear about the lady who had the very large fine. 😳 What happens if you’re having extensive work done and are prescribed a pain prescription? You aren’t allowed to fill it and bring it across? Or, if you divulge truthfully, is it then allowed? I have no idea of the rules but greatly appreciate you teaching us! My Father has serious periodontal disease and cancer. I’m not sure what the doctors will do for him but the fact that the resource is there just about makes me cry with joy. I hope it’s ok I asked? You need to come to Rockport, Texas! Awesome rv parks like Lagoons etc. Lots to do in and surrounding ares. You will love the beaches, fishing camping, shopping just so much fun to have.

I just broke a back tooth and the exam and xrays alone, in Arizona, was $260.. They then told me I needed a crown, which would be $1,800.. Instead, my friend referred me to Luis Medina in Algadones. I haven’t been able to go yet due to my work schedule but it looks like that’s who you went to. Small world and glad to now have a visual reference.

I WILL the next crossing ! 2 hour wait in traffic. Another 45 minutes while they emptied everything in the vehicle on to a table and went through it sock by sock.
You've got my exact hair style except for the colour. We must be sister's from different mothers - I too, always pick the line that takes the longest even if it has the fewest people in it. It's really disheartening to think that dental, medical, etc. prices in the USA and Canada are so much more expensive than for the same services in Mexico.

The ultrasonic cleaning is best..can clean deeper below the gumline. Floss everyday!! Your Dentist will not be happy because they can't get a new BMW off of you. 😆 Glasses are a deal in 🇲🇽 too. I have good vision coverage but can't get fully loaded glasses for $60.00. Safe travels 🙏

Costco probably would be about the same for glasses. But probably more choices there. Dentistry prices are amazing! Sanitation is way more than in the states!
Yes, they were very concerned about safety for the patients and themselves.
FYI regarding glasses, get you scrip and optical width, and order from Zenni optical Way cheaper than any in person store, typically about $15 for a decent pair of glasses.

There are a few really good online companies now~ Foomoo is another one. Exact same brands, progressive/coated/flexible lenses, etc~all the bells & whistles that would have been over $400, we paid $90 & a second identical pair for $50. Three yrs later, still look brand new, excellent quality. You can even try on various styles virtually on most sites.

That’s incredible for dental work, and I have had prescription sun glasses for a while now and I can’t go without. So what was the drink you make with the tequila.? I just looks so warm!!!
The drink is called Coctel Vampiro or Vampirito.
If you get meds in Mexico bring a U.S. prescribed bottle to put it in.
It did cost us any more when we declared it they just checked is on over
We certainly wouldn’t recommend doing that. Especially if it’s a controlled substance. Be honest, do the right thing, and you’ll be OK.
Better yet, try declaring it. You're allowed to bring a 90 day supply of medication back into the US, as long as it's not a controlled drug. The agents know all the tricks. If they determine that you put Mexican medication in a US prescription bottle, you'll find yourself in a world of trouble. Just declare it. Then the worst that can happen is that they confiscate it.

We get a referral from someone then call the dentist office to make an appointment. Dr Luis Medina and his staff are great. 928-227-1040. Let them know Brian and Shawnna Johnson referrer you.
So if you get a temp or permanent Mexican visa or global entry card the line to get back into the US is very short. A temp visa is very easy to get.

Yep I always declared what I am bringing with me over the border. I never had a problem. That woman’s decision to conceal her meds cost her big time. Follow their instructions and you’ll won’t get into trouble.

@@kingair350 I wondered the same thing. I have never heard of a fine in the US that was discounted by 90% if you paid on the spot. Discounted fines paid directly to the 'agent' is a scam that occurs all over the world in many forms. I would be pretty surprised if a US CBP officer would be involved in one(they are paid quite well). MX officials are another story. A vanlife YT channel has video of a MX customs official strong arming a discounted fine over some CBD products(that were actually legal in MX)

Yeah if you have a diagnosis and you don't see a doctor down there and they don't prescribe it down there and then you just go down and buy it and bring it back whether it be diabetes medication or anything else whatever is pharmaceutically controlled here then you would be in trouble correct?

Good question. We’ve always went with referrals. Googling Los Algodones Dentists will yield good results.

Hi Dan. Great question. Our understanding is that most Dentists use both. Some use IV sedation by Anesthesiologist as well.
Interesting. We were there in March of 2021 for meds and booze, and not only did we not have to wear a mask anywhere, but they didn’t spray us or ask us to use sanitizer. There was only one person in front of us heading back.
Perhaps they loosened restrictions?

On January 12, 2021, CDC announced an Order requiring all air passengers arriving to the US from a foreign country to get tested no more than 3 days before their flight departs and to present the negative result or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19. Is this the same when crossing borders by land? Did they asked you?

Recognize everything been there quite a few times. You didn’t mention how many dentists they have there literally hundreds as well as optical stores. Not many people there like less than half what I’m used to. Pharmacy is really cheap. Have a friend who owns two lots with park models and rv sites with hookups east of Yuma. I would be there now except for covid home schooling grandchildren. Interesting they close the border that early normally 10pm but honestly they shut down most everything in town at 5pm. Need to get back to finish some dental work myself. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your selves.
Traffic is down about 70 percent from normal. Many dental and optical shops have closed.

I was down last year, and they accepted my Visa card, albeit there was a small fee for using it, compared to cash.

Nothing wrong with Fentanyl when you are really in pain. It is not poison ok. It is just an abused drug. Best pain killer in the known universe.

Use an enhanced drivers license.
We used our passports, but some where using both regular and enhanced drivers licenses. Thanks for watching!

Yeah, that ultrasonic scaler is a No Bueno for me too. They can pick at me all day with the manual picks and I could nap right through it. The ultrasonic scaler is nothing but pain.
