Learn the Law? Learn the Constitution? What a novel idea! If The People would learn our Constitution then they could do what the Sheriff here does - ENFORCE IT!
Its been a long time since I've seen walking tall with Joe Don Baker. I wish they would show the movie, and other movies like Billy Jack another great movie
Most of the years growing up, my father and I only saw the sequels on tv and the short-lived tv show with Bo Svenson, never knowing about Joe Don Baker being the the original BP. We were finally relieved to see the first movie. Especially my dad who was a fan of Baker's tv character Eischied in the a miniseries and tv series.
Grow up, this is across both isles. That's the problem, folks like you let them divide and conquer. I am pissed they get salary and benefits for life after 2 terms. What American gets that type of benefit? No Congress ( both parties) need to remember who works for who.
While adding humor to the movie, this event NEVER took place. In real life Judge Treece and Buford had a good working relationship. Judge Treece did indicate that the movie was not representative of the real story in many ways. He stated that things were not nearly as bad as the movie made them out to be. For all of the hype he said there was little difference in the case load between Buford and Clifford Coleman, the sheriff that followed Buford into office. The movie was basically a myth.
@mikeelam2010 What you said about the movie being more myth than reality reminds me of that quote from The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance: “When the legend becomes fact, print the legend”. Also I thought this part of the movie was funny especially when he says “leaks out”😂
I hate to be the one to tell you this but JUDGES lie. The judge was probably part of alot of pusser getting shot and murdered I Knew some judges in my neck of the woods that had so much money in their safes at home they couldn't shut the damn door.
My mother ran for sherff and I really warming him backs i. The 70 we was at my mother daddy house and we watch him and billy jack he was a bad man back in the day
Reading through the articles, I could find on Sheriff Pusser and McNairy County . This never happened, and Sheriff Pusser had a good working relationship with the judge he worked with. This was more than likely done for cinematic affect. The audience could understand how judges and other elected officials were corrupt and it would resonate with them. Sheriff Pusser was not only fighting dirty elected officials but also The Dixieland Mafia and State Line Mob. This was thrown into demonstrate how much power a Sheriff has in his county or other equivalent municipality.

Baker's performance was great, but the real Buford Pusser was huge and nasty looking. He didn't return home, get beat up, and decide to become the avenging lawman. His family had been involved in law enforcement for years before this, and he joined the Sheriffs Dept around age 19.

Joe don Baker a bad boy although he's shorter then the real Buford who was 6 7.
