- Joe Don Baker ..best known for his roles as a Mafia hitman in Charley Varrick, deputy sheriff Thomas Jefferson Geronimo III in Final Justice, real-life Tennessee Sheriff Buford Pusser in Walking Tall, brute-force-with-a-badge detective Mitchell in Mitchell, James Bond villain Brad Whitaker in The Living Daylights, CIA Agent Jack Wade in the James Bond films GoldenEye and Tomorrow Never Dies and the brilliant and tough NYPD Chief of Detectives Earl Eischied in television police drama, Eischied.

Buford Pusser was a legend, and Joe Don Baker portrayed him well in that movie.
I wish he had done all the other Walking Tall's, none of the others put the emotion and realness to the job of playing Buford Pusser like he did, his portrayal was the most passionate.
I think they got Bo Svenson to do the others because he's a dead ringer for Pusser..I agree Joe Don Baker was great but Bo looks just like Pusser in his final years as sheriff.
+PolizeiPaul Agreed. Actually Bo was great in his depiction of Pusser, as well. And the fact that Bo was as lethal in real life (look at his bio) made his character come across as someone who'd kick ass, as Pusser obviously did.
agree with you, grit tv show the movie , I loved the it I had to dig deeper.
never liked him from interviews and personal anecdotes about the man but he always did good work. Since I knew going in that WT II was largely fictionalized, I thought Svenson did good job and was actually a good movie thanks largely to "John Witter (Logan ramsey, Jr. [btw, look up Logan Ramsey, Sr., USN, to see something interesting])", "Ray Henry", "Pinky Dobson (Luke Askew)" and "Stud Pardee (Richard Jaekel) (and cameo by Red West)." Someone in casting really outdid themselves putting that line up of villains in play for Svenson to deal with. I think those guys really made him look good.
teller121 Your never liked Joe Don Baker or Bo Svenson? No biggie, just curious who you were talking about.
His role of the first Walking Tall was tailor made for him!!
IMO: Joe Don Baker should hav won a Academy Award for Walking Tall.
"You got a warrant ?"
"Yeah , I keep it in my shoe !"
Best line !
lots of great lines from that movie...." I always thought you walked tall...Looks like you gotta learn how to crawl"........"I had to stand up for myself alone, and you know what they did to me,.. until all men stand up for what they believe in, ...the same damn thing could happen to anyone of you"........"My children are motherless cause of the man at the top..And that's who I'm after "..and soooo many others, great movie, my favorite ever.
It's good to hear Joe talk about what a good man Buford was. This is a very close to my heart subject, being from the area at the time. Buford was a good man and so is Joe Don Baker. It would be nice to see how he would have played Buford in the other two chapters of Walking tall.
i agree. much better actor than bo.
Joe Don Baker is a Southern treasure.
He held up with The King of cool Steve McQueen in JR. Bonner. Then he did Walking Tall. Always thought a lot of him. Good interview. Wish it was longer.
Joe Don Baker, what a great actor..
Saw Walking Tall, just awesome. .
He is a damn good actor and loved him as Buford Pusser, just wish he could have done the other two Walking Tall's.Like a lot of actors he has a quality about him that you can never forget, his voice, his eyes, regardless of what it is you just don't forget Joe Don Baker.
Buford was set to play himself in the next films. He signed the contract in Memphis, and was killed in a car crash later the same day.
Joe Don Baker is completely underestimated as an artist and has his own deep understanding of the human condition to carry into his acting. He can be compared honourably with John Wayne and James Garner.
Joe Don Baker is a great actor. no matter what film he did. very under rated and made a lot of good films. loved him in walking tall.
Buford T. Pusser was a true American badass! We could use a few more sheriffs like him today.
Baker`s portrayal as the sadistic hit man Molly in Charley Varrick was chilling.
+R Paz the hit man later graduated 2 dealing arms in The Living Daylights
And the corporate guy in Congo !
So many great lines.
One of my favorites: "Now sit there, and start talking... with good will!"
Mine was in Walking Tall " You let them get away with this you give them the eternal right to do the same damn thing to any one of you" Incredible line
Makes it even greater because he was tearing his shirt off as he was saying it
One of my favorite actors. Especially loved Framed and of course, Walking Tall.
THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER SHERIFF WITH THE GUTS THAT BUFORD PUSSER HAD. REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND.
what about Joe gleniwitz
+state trooper What about My My My My Mitchell? What would his mama say?!
In more ways than one ! Some of the people hated him for 1 thing and that was putting a black man as his top Deputy and that was the real reason he was not reelected sheriff ! Damn racist ! He was the 1st sheriff to do that !
Eliott Ness and his team count for shit ? They may not have been Sheriffs but they surely put their life on the line against even more dangerous mob gangsters and many other cops did the same with other gangsters after that . the reason why this guy was percieved as more of a heroe is that his events became a movie of a normal guy who decided to face a gangster mob . all the other cops who went to the same shit were ordinary people to who decided to become cops to fight gangsters but just because there is no movie made about their lives they remain inknown thru history .if there wouldn,t have been people like Buford Pusser you would have lived a lot more shootings from mobs up untill recently . Its those people you never heard of that made the difference and made the world a bit more secure today.
Its ok to idolize one that happened to be recognised as a heroe but never those who lived thru the same shit but didn,t get as much attention for their actions even if they were as great as his
AMEN BROTHER!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Joe Don Baker played Buford Pusser better then Bo Svenson did not doubting his acting ability.
Walking Tall is one of my all time favorite movies . Joe Don was the best Actor for the role. However I still favor Joe in Cape Fear the most.
Tim R I always liked Eischied Tim!
I just saw Joe in Cape Fear two days ago! I had forgotten that Joe Don did a great job in that remake. Amazing how Nolte character never quite understands who he's dealing with until the wheels have come off.
A great guy....always will be Buford Pusser.
Joe Don Baker is an American hero.
kudos!!! u were a great actor that portrayed buford!!
Great actor with so many memorable roles!
Walking Tall was one Joe Don Baker best movie he played in first move different actor played in in part2 and 3
I've never seen nobody play a character like Joe Don Baker played Buford Pusser and the only time everyone in the audience stood for a standing ovation at the end
Hi home town in Groesbeck in Limestone County Texas. If you ever drive through take a look, it is a little place. Long ways from Hollywood. I think he went to what used to be called North Texas State University in Denton Texas and was in the "Drama" or "Theater" group there if I remember correctly. Seems like a good guy. Great Actor, I have always enjoyed his work. BB
A natural assured actor. Cool, polite, deadly. Up there with the best. And looking good at 80.
Not 80 in this video, as he said original Walking Tall was "21, 22 yrs ago (1973 film), making above video c.1995.
@@teller121 yeah but he still looks good today
Love the voice.
Great villain, "Molly" in "Charley Varrick."
Joe Don didn't take the part.of Buford in the other 2 movies out of respect to Buford who at that point was dead and Buford himself was going to do the next movie playing himself a deal that had been announced at a press conference earlier in the day that Buford died.
Lorrie Twobears That fuckin sucks I sure wish the real Buford Pusser was still alive
Also, Baker learned from family that none of the script in part II was true and he turned down huge $$$.
Love Joe Don Baker.
I was born in 1968 I grew up reading about him and when I was old enough my father took us to see walking tall shier pusser was my boyhood hero and when my son's were old enough I bought the movies and watched them and with that said we will go and see HIM in McNair county and honor the man and our hero may the Lord bless you and your family always Buford
Joe Don Baker is one HELL of a great actor. He has never played a bad part!
Ohh, there's one...
@@FH-cn3mg Two
He did four episodes of In The Heat Of The NIght..
Joe also did a good job when he played Captain Tom Dugan on the tv show, "In The Heat of The Night". It was fitting that he played a cop which seemed to be a cool tribute to his role years earlier as Sheriff Buford Pusser, his most memorable peformance.
walking tall great film
Total badass in"Framed".
If you're a Joe Don Baker fan and you haven't seen it, you simply have to get hold of the BBC's original Edge of Darkness TV miniseries. Slow moving at first but with a killer hook to draw you in at the beginning, it builds into something epic and mythical. Bob Peck (you may remember him as Muldoon in Jurassic Park) turns in a haunting performance as a determined Yorkshire detective out to avenge the death of his daughter. But is Joe Don Baker who gives us a career best as a CIA agent gone rogue, a white knight cowboy out to bring down a terrifying nuclear conspiracy between the powerful of both countries. He's a deadly killing machine with a religious passion for golf and a fondness for ballroom dancing. What's not to love about that? His best work, and I include Charlie Varrick in that.
There's never been a more fulfilling ending to a miniseries in Edge of Darkness -- if anyone wants to watch it, stop reading here -- but when Jedburgh brings the two slabs of plutonium together and irradiates the gathering? What a hell of an ending.
I would love to hear him talk about MST3K.
He sounds like a guy with a sense of humor.
Would enjoy his thoughts on them poking fun at one of his B-films.
Just watched Edge of Darkness (British series) again and loved him in it. Great alongside brilliant Bob Peck, sadly no longer with us. Glad that JDB is.
*Happy 80th Birthday Joe*
1:34...Baker emodied so wonderfully. The low key and sensitive aspects of a family man...although when he smiled in advance of ,an action scene...look out!!!
such a humble man. its pretty hard to believe hes 77 in this interview. that is if the interview was recorded in 2012. cant believe it. he pretty much looks exactly like he did in walk tall
RIGHTEOUS APPLE PIE yeah this was taped in the late nineties man
Thanks Tony. He was way cool in that role & I enjoyed Ieshied( ms?) also. I agree he was the real Buford Puser. Watched him again the other night in Guns of the Magnificent 7. Was such a neat guy. Again, thank you.
Joe Don Baker is... MITTENS!
Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes is what made me like him as an actor.
This guy was seriously brilliant as a hit man in Charley Varrick. His best film.
JDB Is the man!!!!!!
labanacheck lowery I absolutely adore this man!!
Joe Don Baker _is_ Mittens!
I'll never forget him as "Molly" in Charlie Varrick.
"I'm Molly..."
"I didn't drive all this way for the amusement of morons."
"I don't sleep with whores... not knowingly."
and
"If you don't start telling me what I want to know, I'm going to start hurting you very badly."
It ought to have been illegal for this man to age. he should be the official actor hired for all southern roles. Buford, the shady PI in Cape Fear remake, Varrick hit man and other things. he is even great in the occasional 1960s westerns as young bad guy.
No Severson looks more like the real Bufford as he's pretty tall and I do like him a lot but Joe Don Baker has the personality and is my favorite.
He really held up with Father Time.
I always thought that Joe Don Baker looked more like Buford than Bo. Joe Don made the character more real, IMHO. The first of the series was always the best, to me.
Seems like a very good guy. I like his acting
This gentleman is a class
Mitchell!
Loved him in Mitchell!
I love this movie.....
Joe Don was exceptional in Charley varrick
Awesome actor!
Love Joe Don!
I really like JDB- nice fella. Also, he was in "cool hand luke" although rarely see him.
agreed...very handsome
Aren't you put put checkered flagger crash on DVD Blu-ray
amen
Walking tall is a very good movie but you know what rock did a good job also in walking tall but I really love your checkered flag or crash I watch it on CZcams all the time I wish you bringing out on DVD and Blu-ray so I really love that movie get this rabbit foot out of my ear
If superheros really existed Buford Pusser was one.
He's a cop.
Don's an awesome man!
great guy
I Love me some Joe Don Baker ! ❤️🇺🇸🚔
Is he still working? He was so handsome when he was younger,😊
He is semi-retired. Very rarely performs now. He deserves too though, as he is 80, and has been acting 50+years.
LOVE JOE DON BAKER RIH
Love. That. Movie.
I wonder if he regrets turning down the "Walking Tall" sequels. Has he ever mentioned why he didn't do them?
They deliberately veered off true account of his life into sensationalism. After hearing from Buford's family, after he and they went through script, he turned down a boat load of cash and walked away.
He made peanuts in first one because it wasn't low-budget sleeper, so it took a lot to walk away on second one.
This clip is being linked to MST3K episodes by CZcams so yeah there are probably a lot of Mitchell references. Thats why I am here. I liked a lot of his flicks, he was a really good bad guy in a Walter Matthau crime film called Charley Varrick and the Robert Duvall crime flick called The Outfit but yeah, Mitchell was one horrible flick for sure..
Joe Don baker is my 3rd cousin
What's the difference between you n bo
You should look up Jimmy Buffett and Buford T. Pusser... pretty funny story..
Love JDB !
Checkered flag or crash on DVD and Blu-ray please
Paralax view ? Ever watch it ?
Rossi sample portrait recognize a man worked with FBI
MITCHELL ! ! !
i think i can hear the interviewer breathing into the mic
Mitchell
I love Joe Don Baker also but bo svenson look more like Buford pusser and was the same height as Buford pusser at six foot six and he done two of the movies and done a great job also
Is Mr Baker still with us?
No, Joe Don Baker is ok. He's in his late 70s and still gets around.
Never gonna live it down ahahahha.
Angus T. Jones in 50 years.
Most of the views & certainly many of the comments on here come from MST3K fans. What say you?
I heard 2day he passed away last year. He was always 1 of my faves & I'm devastated if it's true. If so, can u tell me how & when or if it isn't so. Please find the truth!
He’s still alive
You guys watch Joe Don Baker movies? -MST3k
Buffords daughter Dawna said he is most like her daddy.
Tony, do u think there is anyway possible for u to get legal permission to play Jedburg for us. I would be so happy & grateful!
The other movies would have been better because of the first movie you wanted to see him know him from the first movie it would have been more complete movies to have the complete story of just one man to think about and care about because you did not know the other actor you just knew joe don baker was Burford
Insurance investigator peter novick from Speed Trap...
Molly
preston
If Buford lived, he could be our president right now with Trump backing him. The what if...
Buford would have been against the corrupt businessman that is Donald Trump. I think he probably would have been a supporter of Bernie Sanders. After all, Bernie is a man of integrity who IS fighting corruption in politics!
@@jasongaylor686 🐂💩
If it wasn’t for 007 films, this guy wouldn’t be popular
OliAliNes3723 .... not true (for me anyway ) walking tall did it for me. 😊
Incorrect. "Walking Tall" is the primary film he is remembered for. Just ask any film fan.
