    Hiya Rex: I did watch this to the end as well as your linked video. So yes I'm commenting about something on my new Zulus LFR. First, as I become more familiar with it, I'm thinking it's pretty darn cool. However (and there is always a however in life), I discovered something I think bares mentioning. Let me give you some context. When I go to the range it's in the morning like at 8:00am, here in SW Oregon.
    And the range is faced due east so the sun is directly in your face. With an optical scope it's very challenging. A sunshade can be screwed on but until a little later you really have to put your hand over your non-shooting eye to see anything. In these conditions the Zulus is unusable. There is no way to keep the direct sunlight out of the ocular lens.

    QUESTION: Rex, I don't understand if the IR Illuminator is necessary for the Digital to work properly?
    Also, How do the various night vision devices detect or see others' IR Illuminators or Lasers?
    Is it possible to remain stealthy while still using an IR device, maybe in a different frequency?
    With the PVS-14, using the IR Illuminator or Steiner Laser does show-up as a bright light to others wearing night vision.
    Is there anyway to run the Digital Night Vision with such impressive results without sacrificing stealth?
    The red glow of IR Illuminators is bad because the unaided eye can see the red glow from quite a distance.
    Can Digital be used only in a passive mode, to detect if any IR Light is out there, such as from the typical home doorbell camera...
    Or someone else also sneaking around in the dark, shining their IR Flashlight like a bright beacon seen from afar.
    Okay...as you can see, this really is just one question.
    Can I still remain stealthy if I must use any kind of active illumination?
    If so, can you do a video looking at this, or point me in the right direction if you've covered that.
    THANK YOU

      Q1). The IR illuminator is helpful in any lowlight/night setting. You can see well without IR in moonlight and in certain enviornoments with other lighting in the area. In complete darkness you will need to use the IR.
      Q2). The Zulus sees my Steiner DBAL fien as shown in the video. Other lamps like the one on the PVS-24 are visible through the Zuklus.
      Q3). Being 'stealthy' is a matter of training, how to employ such tools... righ context, right place, right time etc...
      Q4). The red glow of IR lamps can be visible to naked eye, especially at close range... but I would imagine the other guy with the IR lamp would have the leg uop in that context.
      Q5). Yes, digital can be used in passive mode. Works well in monnlight, and snow, poorly lit farmyard etc...
      Q6). Being stealthy has NOTHING to do with the equipment choice. It has everything to do with tactics, techniques, procedures...etc.. A well trained individual will be carefull on light discipline in such contexts..

    Depends on the intended use.. If critter hunting cheap digital NV scopes are great. Turn the IR illuminator off and they are useless in the dark. The Zulus looks to be a nice scope for say coyote hunting..
    If you’re purchasing it for the intended purpose off 2 legged critters where you may be the prey they aren’t so hot. A PVS-14 is a FAR better buy at that point. Also moving in the dark with a weapon mounted NV is more difficult and slower. If the 2 legged critters have NV capabilities you will stick out like a sore thumb.
    I hunt coyotes at night with a digital NV scope and have looked through legit analog NV. TOTALLY different. The need for IR with digital NV is its Achilles heel. I have 3 big flood IR’s mounted to tripods that I flood the area with so I don’t have to have a IR on my rifle. That’s the only way I would use my digital NV scope in a SHTF prepper situation.

      @IndependentArmz Před 2 dny

      Valid, but why spend 3k if 300 will do the job you need to do? These type of scopes are made because that is the most needed thing in the market. Not 3k worth of tech on a 500 dollar gun.

      @lanejohnson7656 Před 2 dny

      @@IndependentArmz Depends on your intended use for it. My setup with a Sightmark Wraith and Hog Hunter IR works good for critters like coyotes and feral hogs.. But if your intended or secondary use is preparedness for 2 legged critters they are far less than ideal.. You can’t see without IR and in the case of 2 legged critters you just as well hang a billboard up saying here I am when turning the IR on.. If they are out scurrying around at night in a SH TF scenario they likely have night capabilities

    Hi TRex. I have some information concerning JBM Ballistics and/or Ballistics AE which I believe you will find it relevant enough at least for a brief (or long discussion) on a video. Promise to make it worth your while. Perhaps is something you are already aware of but many of us I am sure are not. Please reply if interested. Best Regards and thanks for all your works. 👍

    What kind of rifle would be best used for this kind of scope optic whatever you want to call it would a AR. Be ok to ues I know after about 500 yards a AR kinda of loses against the bigger rounds

    • @wilfdarr
      @wilfdarr Před měsícem

      There are big round ARs: semi is less precise, the spread opens up at longer ranges. Bolt guns are more precise but slower firing. Everything is a compromise so you'll have to decide what you want to compromise on in your situation.

      To add simple context to op. ..... maybe
      The Nemo is available in 300 win mag and I believe in 338 Lapua. There are others I can't recall the mfg available in 375 cheytec and 416 cheytec. All in much larger action than the typical ""AR-15 "" platform. Yet in the 15 class receiver one can up caliber from .224 caliber all the way to .50 caliber. Same with the ""AR-10 "" platform. Can be had from .224 thru .50 cal. It all depends on what your purpose is and requirements for range and pay load delivered, as well as budget.
      Probably nothing in here you may not have known already.

    The pulsar is not the best of thermal scopes, I think the similarly priced InfiRay th50v2 is a far superior thermal showing a lot more detail. The zulus is a great nv unit at the price. All the same an interesting overview of these units 👍
