Hey rex, what's the recoil rating? I don't see any remarks on their site, and know that night vision devices can be pretty sensitive to recoil.
@@CaptainKzer Not sure of rating. Its designed for firearms. Most reviews I've seen were on air rifles or large bolt actions.

@@TiborasaurusRex when I see a slew of content creators all reviewing the same thing all at once I pay no attention to them. A good example is the olight red dot that just came out, but for me that is a dud due to not being able to replace the battery.
I've been looking at these for a little while. You answered a lot of my questions and filled in some things I wasn't aware of. You remain one of the primary drivers of my optics purchasing decisions.

@@nathanielmilam75 Optics I've purchased as a result of Rex Reviews: PA 4-14x, Arken SH4, Arken EP5, PA 3x, and probably this one. That comprises 90% of the scopes I have in inventory, and I have multiples. Finding a reviewer who has a similar mindset is a great way to get turned on to the stuff you might want.

Got mine about a week ago. I opted for the rangefinder as well. There's a cell phone app that talks to the scope via bluetooth and does ballistic calculations. I haven't had a chance to work it all out yet, but I'm impressed with the low light functionality.
Very pumped on that version. Maybe even more for the 3x12 version w/ the rangefinder. Hard to find usable reviews of the rangefinder version.

This looks like a nice unit. It looks like it's aluminum instead of being plastic. I'm kind of surprised it doesn't have a compass to go with the accelerometers because lot of times they are in the same chip. That could be a nice feature if they ask you for feedback. I saw that they also have a version with a laser range finder and ballistic computer. It amazes me how much better the digital nv has gotten. Maybe someone will make a monocle/bino with that chip or does it still have that digital lag people complain about?

Every year the thermal dramatically improve, this years pulsar would be even better, a closer comparison!
Its an apples to oranges comparison anyway, also that thermal footage was captured in extremely non ideal conditions.

I got mine a few months ago but haven't had time to test it other than looking across my yard. It made a wagon wheel at about 50 yards easily visible with detail that couldn't be seen with the naked eye. My only concern was using it on a rifle since so many other reviews were on air guns. Glad to see it works on standard rifles.
I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago. It should be here tomorrow. With the discount I paid $537.00. I was a little nervous about the quality, even after some of the other videos I'd seen on it. Your video took away a lot of that nervousness. Thank you for the thorough review. I’ve got the same model, my opinion is it’s a great scope. This my fourth scope from Arken and I’m happy with all of them. Only issue I’ve had they didn’t ship me some flip caps for my 1-8 scope but the scopes are great even if they are manufactured in china. I’ve been thinking about getting the laser range finder model. And they are coming out with the 7-35 and have them for sale. May sound odd but I’m using my thermal to find my targets and then use the Zulus to shoot the targets. My only wish would be to have a good QD 0 MOA mount for it, that would be the only thing I would change about the whole scope. Hopefully, Arken is listening!!!! Your video to me gives more insight and information than the website. This scope with the IR in auto, makes it better than any of the others I’ve used. The Sony chip I think is the magical component. Just my opinion and thoughts. Great video, thanks for sharing and posting.

Thanks for the great review! On a somewhat related note, I have found that some of the highest mAh capacity and top quality 18650 batteries can be purchased at vape shops. I run Samsung 18650 batteries in all of my night vision and thermal stuff with much longer life than random Amazon batteries.
Thanks for the info, how has it done holding a charge on the rack in between uses. Do the batteries run dead or does it need to be racked plugged in?

Rex does not seem to be very active on this thread. Anyway, the same here. I would go with atn x-sight 5 if it was not for many negative posts related to the atn's quality. A lot of people found bugs in the atn's firmware, at least that is what they say. I talked to the atn;s representatives, unfortunately they did not sound trustworthy. I wish that the atn addressed this issue on its website. A statement addressing the current problems and what they are doing about it. Have you heard anything related to atn x-sight 5 issues?
By the way, onleaf is chinese. or it does not matter? In most cases, we do not have a choice, but in this case we still do. disappointed.

Thank you for the review. I keep ALMOST buying it. Wanted to wait for a complete USA review. Now I have that, but now wonder about the laser rangefinder (VERY appealing). And in the UK they have the 3x12 version with the laser. Then again, I hear about a blended NV/thermal version in early test. This is like trying to decide on a new P.C. in the early 1990s.
My only concern is that WIFI/Bluetooth is detectable and Chinese manufacture guarantees that spyware/remote control is built into the hardware. Along with that, anything that emits light is detectable. For peacetime use this is a fantastic scope, but our world is rapidly becoming hostile so tactical considerations have to take precedence.
On mine you have to turn on the wifi function otherwise when you turn it on it defaults to off and is undetectable on the network. Mine doesn't seem to have bluetooth. I think it only comes with the ballistic calculator version.
Never gave me the opportunity to use the code, but I bought it anyway,,, Still a great product for the price.
I want something like this but shorter ranges. I want 1x to 8 or 10 . 5x is to high for a minimum. But a holowsun night vision red dot isnt enough.
Anyone recommend something in the middle. I want it for a zastava m77 .

I bought one earlier this year and initially had it on a 5.56 but recently switched it over my 8.6Blk build. I have daytime videos at the range, RAV Recoil Activated Video, and night time video, no pigs or coyotes are down yet but still hoping.
Took me over 3 months to get my Zulus! Still have not received any batteries! 6 months in total.
Have had one for a while, I love recording video
but isnt the zulus's algorithm for rifled barrels? ive thought on putting it on my shotgun too but im wondering

Was wondering when you would review this (since it is from Arken). As mentioned, not meant for combat-duty (in areas with easy access to modern technology), but more vermin-duty or general low-risk low-threat observation. Aesthetically very pleasing design.
How sensitive is zero-shift when mount/dismount with a quick release setup?

At 32:20 you begin to comment on the IR Illuminator, and didn't spend more than 6 seconds on the topic.
I just watched your more recent night vision $500 vs. $5000 and I left a comment there, inquiring about IR Illuminators.
It's not just you Rex, I have not yet found a video from a good source who has adequately covered the illuminator issue.
Personally, I am unhappy that my 'Sportsman's Guide' Gen 1 Night Vision Device, has such a noticeable red IR glow.
In fact, I've used my Gen 1 scope around the public park in the evening, and people from a distance saw the red IR illuminator glow.
How can this be avoided?
My IR built in illuminator is 805.
The scope is a Firefield 5x50 (I think) cost me about $150 maybe 10 years ago.

What kind of rifle is it?
I have had one with the IR rangefinder since late last year. I agree with almost everything you said except what you could put it on. It is rated up to a .308 rifle.
Mine lives on my AR 15. I’ve ranged out to a little over 1100y with the range finder. The ballistics program is amazing. You can zero at whatever range you want with a one shot zero. After you enter your ballistic data and range your target it will automatically give you an aim point.
Very good review. One of the few things I would change on it is the reticle thickness. I think it is a bit too thin.
In many ways I like it better than my IR Reaper thermal.
The only improvement I can see if this was made in USA and still have the same price.

My X-Sight II can connect to my phone through their app via the WiFi and/or Bluetooth. This lets an observer see exactly what the shooter is looking at. It's older tech, though, which translates to about twice the weight.

Absolutely, a properly calibrated mil scale reticle is truly universal to any load.

Is the eye relief far enough to use on a large caliber without getting scoped? ✌️
There are videos of guys shooting it on 50 BMG, so not an issue. Since it's a digital image you can actually hold off a bit and remain in focus. I remove the rubber boot to open up more of the screen image.

Question: in your professional opinion, being the honest man that you are, is it worth it to purchase this (for urban setting) or to save up and spend a 'bit' more on a thermal scope?
Assuming monocular use: With this digital night vision you will be better able to identify what you are looking at, you will be able to see through glass (without IR turned on), and you can equip all you folks with one of these for the same price as a good thermal.

The problem I've had with NV is washout with any artificial lights in the area. So I've been learning towards IR instead.
I don't know what your application will be for NV. Please remember if its for security, then anyone with elce with night vision can see you as if you were shining a flashlight around.
This doesn't wash out. All digital.

Optics are getting outa hand! Who would ever imagined you'd be getting this stuff for the price. I'm using a Monstrum $168.00 scope that is as good as my $500.00 Riton! Just imagine what you'll be getting in another five years!
I got the Arken 5x25 and they sent me rings,,,,I needed a mount ,,,I have tried on a couple of different occasions to order the mount. And every time I try,,,,,,.It will not let me order.,,,It says something about my address,,,,,But had no trouble ordering the 600 dollar scope,,,,,but the 69 dollar mount I'm having a problem,,,,,,hhuuu

To be fair. The thermal vs NV comparison isn’t quite fair. Especially price wise. Thermal is always more expensive
But Arken is dropping there Thermal/NV/Daytime zulus here soon. Same as this just added thermal. 256core thermal 3-12 zoom with still 5-20 zoom on NV side. Im waiting for that to drop. Be a pretty decent setup for the price and even at little 256 core, good enough for 50-100yrd thermal stuff.
Rumor is a 3xx core version is coming out eventually also.
How in the hell does one focus the scope? Moved the eye piece to the left, then to the right and still blurry as all hell.
