Two French U-N peacekeepers have been wounded by sniper fire in Sarajevo.
The soldiers were injured as intense fighting broke out in hills south of the Bosnian capital on Wednesday.
Under rainy skies, residents of the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo's were again menaced by sniper fire on Wednesday.
Pedestrians in the city's main intersection scurried alongside French APC's (armoured personnel carrier) to protect themselves from stray bullets.
Two French peacekeepers were injured.
Anyone or anything caught in the crossfire is a target.
Cars passing through the intersection were immediately abandoned and promptly struck and bullets collected as souvenirs.
U-N soldiers have been deployed to the intersection in the last week to protect people trying to go about their normal routines.
At the same time- plumes of smoke floated above the hills around Sarajevo as the Bosnian Army and Bosnian Serbs exchanged heavy artillery and machine gun fire.
Fighting appeared concentrated around Debelo Brdo hillside south of downtown Sarajevo.

all the people who love call of duty should get a weekend in a place like this.
My best friend grew up in Bosnia during the war, then his parents moved in France. We played all Call of duty games since Cod 4, he is a big fan of fps games. I also knew a lot of people who lived in Albania, Ukraine, etc in my life, who loved those kind of games even if them or their families knew war. A lot of people love those games so you can't say that. Peace.

Coming from a minority the only thing left for us in any of the Balkan countries was relentless exile and misery
These places have no money to rebuild a lot of their countries income comes from tourists so you'll still find bombed out schools where kids take classes no doors in the door frame etc.

I don’t know the circumstances with this specific conflict but I know they often aren’t allowed to fire as peacekeepers unless there is someone directly attacking them.

The Yugoslav Wars were started around 1991-92 as the country of Yugoslavia (Jugoslavija) collapsed along with the soviet union. Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Slovenia and eventually Montenegro split from Yugoslavia to be free. Some groups such as Republika Srpska or Republic of Serbia formed to attack Bosnia.
Bosnia won the war, everyone else just kept split from Serbia.
I'm a Serbian so I'm on Serbia's side in those wars, no matter the events.

Sarajevo was held by bosnian forces, right? I always wondered how some random snipers could roam the city without being tracked down by bosnian soldiers. I mean really... Sniper Alley? Always at the same place? For years? Without being spotted and killed? Hard to believe...
GreyD.99x Some Serbian forces surrounded the city, president of Bosnia begged all forces ( militants, militias etc ) to defend Sarajevo. Serbs attacked Muslim parts of the city with the lowest number of Serbs, and so on, there’s a documentary I really recommend watching. Has really good info

A lot of the sniperists were tracked and killed by the Bosnians. They were recruiting and training new ones and positioning them on the lines. It's all documented in the papers of Serbian Army.
