James hoffman has told that dry or wet filter paper has no significant difference in taste.

I would bet this guy a Gazillion dollars or anybody else could tell if the filter was wet or dry. I did a wet and dry test with my Aeropress and I couldn't tell the difference.

Ya, James Hoffman did a test in one of his aeropress videos and he couldn’t tell the difference either

I wet the filter only because it keeps it stuck to the black holder better when it's turned upside down. If James Hoffman can't taste a difference then no one can.

The inventor of the Aeropress himself doesn’t even wet the filter. I think it’s quite unnecessary.

Try leaving the filter in hot water for a minute, and compare with another cup without the filter to compare.

Maybe there are many different brands of filter out there, some of them require us to wet it, otherwise the taste of paper will go thru.

Slightly eccentric advice. I don't notice any flavor difference, wet paper or dry.
Usually when people recommend wetting paper filters in systems, it's because they're concerned some part of the mixture will saturate the paper and stay trapped in a dry filter, so (they assert) using a wetted filter may help to minimize that loss.
But you're saying the filter actually affects the flavor of the coffee. I never notice. But if you're really worried about it, why not just switch to unbleached filters? or a steel filter?
Also if you're worried about that, what's with the doubling up on the paper filters?

inverted, wetting filter, double filter... adding a lot of faff without benefit (in my opinion)

Also take the rubber plunger off and clean inside it every now and again, it can get kinda nasty under it if you don't clean it out.

Do a blind taste test between wet and dry filter paper

@@aboutcoffee3562 the thing he wanted to point out was that James Hoffman and others already did this test. Their conclusion was, that there is no difference in taste at all.

James Hoffman did thorough testing. No need for wet or double filter. Also said beauty of the Aeropress is water pour not important. Where’s the link for filters😂

Doesn't the dry filter get wet once the coffee starts to go through it? What's the logic of dry being bad?

    • @DavidGarcia-pi9wn
      @DavidGarcia-pi9wn Před 7 měsíci +1

Usually the paper is acid bleached to get it to be white
Pre wetting allegedly helps tame the acidity added by the paper
I use a stainless steel filter so I don’t know anything about that

There's no way that the logo has come off by just washing it. Must have sandpapered it off. Neither of mine are close to that state after heavy use.

I've had mine quite a while and after about a cup a day with just light rinsing off most of the time after the label has faded quite a bit. Its not fully gone but its not vibrant like it started. It might be that some of them weren't made as high quality as others.

Great video, dude! I'm having an issue here, when I press down the plunger some of the water comes off through the sides of the filter and go to the table. A mess as you can imagine 😅
How to stop this from happening?
