    When I check product reviews I always look for lowest ratings first. If there are plenty of those I don't bother with high ratings. Doing this has served me well.

    • @RollingxBigshot
      @RollingxBigshot Před 3 měsíci +72

      Nah some of those low ratings be from incompetent people, there was one for a cheap PlayStation compatible controller for $20 and the 1* reviewer was complaining that it wasn’t the official PlayStation controller because it didn’t have any of the PlayStation logos.

    • @Yenneffer
      @Yenneffer Před 3 měsíci +51

      @@RollingxBigshot Yeah the 1-star reviews are not always all that useful. More often than not it's something like "product arrived broken", which is more on the seller than the item itself. I like to check the mid-range reviews, these tend to be a bit more balanced lol.

    • @frankb5728
      @frankb5728 Před 3 měsíci +28

      I stick to the 2/3 stars because they usually tell the whole story. 1 star reviews are either people who made a mistake and put 1 star instead of 4/5, ordered the wrong item and blame it for their failings or are just plain stupid. There's always an exception but I usually don't look at the extremes first

    This is a pretty common thing in Asia where a lot of students will have one the same way people out west will typically have a hotplate for their dorm rooms, and it's mostly only really for soup or instant noodles, oatmeals or congee, and reheating leftovers with a splash of water on the bottom before you toss in the food.

    • @TeaBurn
      @TeaBurn Před 15 dny +1

      Yeah, that makes a lot more sense than having this thing. I rather have an inexpensive electric single hot plate and a separate pot or pan that I can easily wash or swap out if something happens to it. Easier to repair or replace the hot plate too. I imagine the coating will wear out on this thing, and then you'd be stuck with an even worse piece of e-waste.

The settings from 1 to 20 that you may have are just controlling how often it turns off. That casuses a lot of food to burn or water to boil over.

    I got the larger version of this, by Dezin as well. It's more of a pot shape and came with a steaming basket and is stainless steel, instead of non-stick. The settngs are 200W and 600W. 600W is perfect for getting water going for noodles, then turn down to 200W once you add them. Plus the steaming basket is perfect for frozen vegetables for ramen (my main use scenario of the pot). The main reason I went with this one is it's very large size, 1.6L, it's perfect for two packs of ramen and an egg added to the water.

    I feel like they had no practical reason for making the outside bottom rounded like a traditional stovetop pot. They should have noticed that as soon as it's placed down, it wants to tip over.
    The whole C shaped heating doesn't sound good too; There are pots and pans specifically designed for even heating for a reason.

      And the electric skillet has temperature regular knob instead of just on/off!!! Just another piece of junk from China! But I di admit it looks really pretty - but way too small even for my ramen!!!

    For eggs, try preheating it up to the highest setting then turn it off add the egg and cook only with the residual heat while unit is off. If it’s still too hot, preheat with the lowest setting, then turn it off and try. Just a thought.

    Could you set it to the low temp but turn it off before it gets to full temp? Sometimes on a stovetop, I turn off the electric burner, which still has heat, and the cast iron skillet still has enough heat to cook eggs eggs at a lower temperature. Yes a bit more hands-on if you have to turn it on and off to maintain temperature..

    We bought one of these a few years ago, we take it with us when we travel. It works well enough in hotel rooms for simple small meals. It stays packed in the tote that I call my travel kitchen right next to a small coffee press. The handle I just prop up on the small plastic container of silverware I bring, about the size of a pencil case.

      You need to look up old Westinghouse commercials from the 40's and 50's. They show a stove top that has the stew pot built inside the top of the stove. It's was kinda nifty. I don't know why they stopped making them like that anymore.

    Back in the sixties we had an electric lidded fry pan. The cord plugged into the opposite side from the handle and it had small feet. Mom used it for family style cooking at the table for things like sukiyaki where everyone served themselves.
    I think the temperature knob could be twisted to any heat setting, could be wrong though.

    One thing you could have tried with eggs to me seems quite obvious: Eggs don't take long to cook in the first place, right? What about putting the egg in with it off, then turning it on low. I bet before it even hits 450, your egg is probably already done and out.
    Not ideal, of course. But, would make cooking an egg more practical.

    A good place for a device like this one (perhaps a version with an added lower temp setting option) would be on a car camping or road trip in an EV with a full 120V/15A power outlet in it. Pair that up with a mini refrigerator and you’d have a pretty minimalistic mobile kitchen, without the need for packing a stove and fuel.

    The best appliance you can get for dorm/ apartment cooking is an induction cooker. This is for fire safety, the amount of power it provides, simmer/ slow cooker control, and versatility of using several types of pots/ kettles with a single device. Nothing else comes close. The only reason you'd use a hotplate when induction cookers exist is it is more lightweight if you need a device you can throw in your suitcase. Furthermore if space is a premium, get a microwave with air fryer/ convection features.
