    The Chapter Review in ABeka is slowly assigned as homework over the course of the chapter. That way it isn't so overwhelming for the students.

I'm looking on their site and all I can find is the two levels of my story but here you show a few older levels of these same books. Thank you for this video! We have used TGTB years 1, 2, and 3 so far and will be using year 4 this coming year. We love it!! However I am looking for something new for the following year. I've been looking at Story of the World, but didn't realize it has an old earth focus. So that's out! I'm now looking at Masterbooks after you showed it. It checks all my boxes! 💜

    I know this is an old video but I’m researching History to use for this fall 22-23. I was thinking of using story of the world but after seeing your review and letting me know it was old world theology that nixed that one. And it looks dry. I really like color curriculum. So I’m thinking of using Masterbooks but my question is what do you recommend starting with? My twins are going into 3rd grade and haven’t done a formal history curriculum yet. Should I start with the my story series (level 1 or 2?) or would it be fine to start with the America’s story series?

    • @mandy-maltz
      @mandy-maltz  Před 2 lety

      I'm not really sure to be honest. I'd recommend going to the masterbooks website and seeing which one they have for that specific grade. They are all laid out by grades on there to make it easy.

    I have a 1st & 2nd grader. Would Doing My Story 1 be ok to do with both of them? And do you think that is enough? Or should I do something else for a History for them as well? This is the first year I'm adding something MORE than LA, Math, Writing, and Science 1 time a week. But they have really been interested in Geography so they do know a lot that I taught them just from review and youtube videos, but I want a curriculum this year... but wondering if I should add History as well or if this has "enough" history in it for a 1st and 2nd grader.

    • @thegreatestislove8604
      @thegreatestislove8604 Před 5 lety +1

      I’d say start with my story because it’s first grade and helps them understand the world around them. That’s important because how can they understand history of places they’ve never been?

    • @popehj
      @popehj Před 5 lety +2

      My Story would be perfect for a 1st and 2nd grader. If you want to use Master Books Science, I would either do the new Adventures in Creation book 1 or the God's Design for Life Beginners. The Math Lessons for a Living Education and Language Lessons for a Living Education are both excellent for math and language arts. Love Master Books. They are really well thought out and a delight to use.

    With master books how involved are you as the teacher? I am considering a highschool science from them, but was holding off because I want to be sure that my student can work independently. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience!

    • @mandy-maltz
      @mandy-maltz  Před 4 lety +1

      I think that really depends on the student and their personal level. There is a lot of independent work. For my 7th grade, I basically just show him his assignment, and he's off on his own. Not every child will be the same, but my son is pretty average and he enjoys being able to do it on his own.

    I'm trying to find good history material that isn't from a religious perspective, but all the best homeschool resources seem to be Christian. Christian educators definitely win some points from me for how well they care about education

    • @kytruth1027
      @kytruth1027 Před rokem

      @@ravenbird3014 Story of the World is actually secular. It of course has some Christian history in it, but it doesn't put much emphasis into it and does focus a lot on other beliefs, gods, etc, which is why a lot of Christians don't use it. 🙃

      @mandy-maltz  Před 5 lety +1

      We never did My Story 1, I went straight to 2. I don't know if MB would recommend that or not , but that's what we did and there wasn't a problem at all.

    • @popehj
      @popehj Před 5 lety +1

      My Story books are independent of each other. You do not need to do 1 prior to 2. But as with any curriculum, it is a tool and you use how you want. You could do both in one year for older students, you could do 1 before 2, 2 before 1 or not do one or the other at all. Master Books is a very flexible curriculum.
