      We are doing American the Beautiful this year!! I'm really excited to try it! There are so many wonderful options if you want to beef up the lessons, but even just the basic history is excellent! Beautiful books! We're excited to use the literature books alongside the history. I've never done something like that before, but I think it will make the history even more engaging. Are you going to add some of the videos they have to supplement different lessons? I heard that was an optional add on...like a subscription. Thinking about that as well. I work full time outside the home, and the way they lay everything out is SOO easy to follow, and I think will work for kids working independently. We will just talk about it when I get home. We're also big fans of Generations too

    We used Notgrass last year after having used many many others in the past. Notgrass was absolutely our favorite! Really brings the history to life. Edited to add, I also noticed and appreciated a difference in how respectfully non European people groups were portrayed and studied more in depth as opposed to other curriculums from the very outset. They portray the first nations as legitmately being nations ... not barbarians, not an inconvenience in "the story of the white people "... Something is wrong when North American history starts with the Pilgrims. Thank you, Notgrass.

    We used Notgrass our first year homeschooling- I think it was called From Adam to Us? We finished the curriculum, but found out that we really don't enjoy or retain information from history textbooks. We found that we love learning history on at least a four year cycle so you can really dig in and learn deeply about a time period before moving on. But so many people seem to love Notgrass!! I see so many moms choosing this curriculum! We really thrive with literature based curriculums, so it's definitely just a preference thing. I think it's so cool that your son requested to study American History. We spent the last two years studying American History and it was amazing. It's probably my favorite history to study. I'm sure he is going to have an awesome year!

    We LOVE Notgrass, but sadly aren’t using them this upcoming school year. The last two years we’ve done American history, plus the 50 state’s curriculum so we’re tapped out in that area and needed a world history. I wanted to do From Adam to Us, but I’ll have a 6th, 3rd, and kindergartner, plus a toddler do it didn’t fit for us this year. I wish they had a more elementary world history offering. America, the Beautiful is on our schedule for the following year. In the mean time we’re using Sonlight and BFB to round out world history/geography.

    I did Start Spangled Story with our early elementary kiddos. We got through the first book and they got pretty bored. The things I loved about it were the things they disliked (of course). I loved how in depth it was, the readings were thorough and really covered every people group and era very well, but my YOUNG elementary students (K-2 at the time) just weren't interested in focusing on one subject for that long (fair enough, it was a lot!). The books are beautiful. The student notebooks are thoughtfully laid out and I really liked the stories. But we did sell it and I have to say, it sold quickly and held its value really well. So....there's that🤣

    • @mandy-maltz
      @mandy-maltz  Před rokem

      Yes! They are made to be done in a year. There's a LOT of images, so that's where there are 2 textbooks. The reading isn't long at all. They provide so many images and things, that it makes it look massive. This one is made to be finished in 150 days, leaving us 30 days of wiggle-room in the school year!

      Our programs are designed so that you can pick and choose the extra activities that work well for your student. Reaching each lesson only takes 10-20 minutes. Many families successfully finish our curriculum in a year, while others choose to go slower and spread them out over 1.5-2 years. Either way is fine!
