Thank you for sharing that added advice about having grace and patience with toddlers and modelling a Christ like response to distraction and interruptions. I needed to hear that today.

Thanks you so much I love your advice! I have 5 kids as well and sometimes it feels like no one is listening and someone always has to go potty! Thank you for the reminder that all these interruptions are God ordained!

Thank you for being so honest. I totally agree with the “too graphic content” in history for little hearts! That’s why it’s so hard for me to find a history program.

That tidbit about patience hit home!!! My 3 yr old loves to distract his sister while doing her work. And I always feel like it’s a battle.

Thanks for the review-- we've used these curriculums too and none of them were for us. I agree with you on the pros and cons -- I would just add that master books felt so light that it wasn't something that can be used for several kids because it's so tailored to young ones with the lack of detail. We moved up to the next one and still felt the same--- felt like it was missing content and just not enough. Just imo

I have 2 boys, kinder & 1st grade. I am having a really hard time figuring out history. I always hated history as a child and I don’t want that for them. We really haven’t done any history yet, unless you count the Bible 😉 we do lots of that.
I have been doing so much research and was leaning toward Beautiful Feet for history, we use TGATB for everything else. But I don’t think my boys are ready for TGATB history.
Would you honestly recommend master books for this age?
Beautiful feet is $250 for their history books alone, although if done 2-3x/week the curriculum is stretched through 2 years.
I will look into master books now. But I need mamas with experience to show me the way! 🙏🏻

Thank you for this review. So helpful. We have from Adam to us but haven’t gotten to it. I am feeling we’re going to feel the same as your family did going through it. What program are you leaning towards for middle to high school? I was hoping to go with notgrass since they seem to have a good high school option. We have been doing mystery of history and I love the content but it doesn’t have any breakdown in history like American history or government and such.

I think God would want you to teach history honestly. He would want you to pick books that are intellectually correct and present the truth. You trying to shelter your child does not protect him it makes it harder for him to see danger. Like it or not there is much evil. This should not be hidden. Children used to work from sun up to sun down. They are designed to be resilient and strong. You are training him to be weak and naive.

When I was in 7th grade my teacher read an account from a gory battle scene. I remember hearing about someone’s intestines coming out of their body. I was crossing the room, trying to leave when I passed out. My teacher caught me before I hit the ground and I woke up to 25 of my classmates staring at me!
All that to say, the right information at the right developmental time. There is such a thing as too much when teaching innocent, young children. It sounds like hers were elementary aged at the time this was made. It is not dishonest to skip the gory details until they can handle them. You can cover those topics in a more general way first and fill in the blanks later on.
