I'd enjoy seeing you plow again. I plowed for the first time in probably 20 years this past Spring. Fuel intensive, but necessary. And it showed when I got on the ground combining when it was a bit wet, and again sowing wheat. Just another tool in the farming selection. Thanks for posting! Oh, and have a nice Christmas!!

    • @SoybeanFarmer3300
      @SoybeanFarmer3300  Před 2 lety

You just brought back the memories of the trouble I had with my little combine and it's worn out tires getting over the land I had plowed that year. The year was 2019 and it was a wet Harvest that year. I put the link to that plow video in my reply to Nelson at IP Farms, you probably have already watched it, I re-watched it this morning and remembered I got to figure out why these trips don't hold well. I was just now outside standing there studying the takedown so I can examine those trip mechanisms and it hit me just like a brick in the face how I'm going to have to remove the moldboard portion in order to get the pivot bolt out.
You might remember when I bought this plow from cousin Scott then set out to replace the share, shin, moldboard and the missing trash sweep, where I had one heck of a Time learning how to deal with what are called plow bolts. God sent some really good people to help me out of that jam so with the knowledge gained and the tools gained at least it won't be so difficult to get those moldboards off.
Thanks for watching and supporting this channel my friend.

YES this thing works great and I think now I can talk while on a tractor or the F600 maybe even the combine too. now I need to use the 1500 foot pounds of nut busting torque contained in the Earthquake battery powered impact wrench I bought earlier in the year to do a take down on the plow trip mechanism so I can find out why it was tripping so often for no apparent reason. that was a serious frustration the last time we tried to use this plow. czcams.com/video/c8dUPYKYd9w/video.html

Raining over there at your place yet Larry, I just looked at the Doppler radar probably start here in the next 10 minutes. Good to be getting some rain after such a dry year.
You may have been here long enough to remember the videos of me trying to replace the share, shin, moldboard and the missing trash sweep on the plow just after I bought it from cousin Scott. I had one heck of a time back then learning how to deal with old rusted plow bolts.
I was just standing outside looking at how to take the plow apart to look at the trip mechanism when it hit me I'm going to have to remove the moldboard in order to slide the pivot bolt bearing out. For a few seconds there I was flooded in my mind with the horror memories of trying to get the old moldboards off so they could be replaced with new moldboards but then I realized I'm now empowered with the tools and the know-how because God sent to really nice people out of nowhere to help me with that situation back then. So it's just more nuts and bolts for my fancy battery powered impact wrench and if it wasn't about to start raining I'd go out there and start playing with that impact wrench.
Always good to see you here in the comments Larry and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

I drove the old type excavators that used ropes instead of hydraulics, there was two drums one for lifting the other to control the drag line buckets of clam opening bucket. There was a foot brake for each drum and to get them set even was a delicate operation on something so big. An old guy operator showed me a tip and I'm racking my old brain box to remember but it ain't coming back to me. But the trick was real easy and made driving those machines a pleasure not a chore. So I'm right there with you on the 3 point linkage. Good to see it sorted.

Good to see that you were able to solve problem without making any internal adjustments........On both of our old 4020's the 3 point hitches are not used......Their only use is to provide PTO power and major hydraulic power to run the unroller tables , baler and Bale Bandit..... The Tables are run off the tractor Remotes, whereas the 1 in hydralic lines to the Bandit...are plumbed directly off the main pump...... We had to replace the maiin pump....with one we had off a 4840..........The New drive system will have a Marcuest Hydralic Drive in between the power unit and the baler...... 1000 RPM input 540 output...40 GPM hydralic flow....... Too bad the LIGHT from really large subscriber channels ,is under a basket!

The Chisel and the seedbed finisher go at it every year on the 3 point hitch of the 4020 finding out I had a lift problem as I did was just another way of satan keeping cousin Scott and I from being able to work the same field at the same time together, did it with the combine stuff too because of my fuel situation. Yeah when going into the back to adjust that load shaft finger you could go get a cheap deep well 9/16 and extension and weld them together.
If you clean the socket and the extension real well with ether and then use a good rap of high-quality duct tape or electrical tape you will be fine. There's a spring on that little nut that you're turning inside their that wants to push your socket off anyhow

6 full turns on the turn buckle fixed it and I still got threads left on the control rod. now I need to go back and take that half turn out of the pump pressure adjustment screw. no need to run the pressure any higher than it needs to be. thanks for dropping by Ed.

Is your JD dealer friend God? I thought you said that HE gave you the information you needed. You thanked God for the information. So your friend is God. Cool.

In this particular exchange there was a lot of drama about the gear jumping..
and then there was the part about the poor mechanic who didn't understand how to put the load control shaft back in and where the control lever should actually be. www.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=jd&th=292092
I'm glad I was able to adjust the threaded rod and still had plenty of threads to adjust on.

I presume that you have checked that the oil reservoir (transmission?) has sufficient oil in it because as you said the tractor is sitting nose uphill?
I guess that you have a handbook for this tractor - if so study it to see if there is a filter in the hydraulic system that you are not aware of because it might need changing or cleaning. Has the oil become contaminated with water (milky appearance)?
I say this because I cannot for the life of me see why shortening the linkage rod should solve the issue with raising the plough unless perhaps some of the pins, turn buckles etc have egged out from use which has resulted in it effectively become longer collectively over its length or arc of operation.
I suppose another issue could be that a lever where it is attached to a shaft it may be rotating on the shaft when it shouldn't because the roll pin or whatever fixes the position has broken / dropped out / become loose.
One last point to make life easier for yourself when ploughing make sure the R hand lower lift arm linkage adjusting mechanism is well lubricated and easy to adjust. Similarly the top link needs to move easily so that it can be easily adjusted both shortened and lengthened so that when the plough is in work at the depth you want the main beam/frame of the plough is parallel with the soil on the unploughed land.
I have no idea what the design is inside the plough leg that allows it to break back if it strikes something really solid under the surface but many of them rely on powerful spring pressure to remain in work or alternatively force the plough body back into the soil.
Safety Point: Springs are a potential massive store of energy that if released unwittingly can cause colossal injury to an operator in a flash so please be real careful.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your wife.

Dan my friend I truly enjoyed this comment of yours. It was if you were actually standing there with me having a methodical well-thought-out conversation concerning all of the different issues which could be the culprit for the adverse effect I'm dealing with. Just like you my friend I still have great difficulty visualizing how shortening this linkage actually enabled the valve to open more fully. After being advised to thoroughly examine all of the linkage and the bushings to make sure they were not sloppy worn out, as you mentioned, then all indicators Point towards the internal valve as being worn to the point where it might be possible to correct the condition through the internal adjustment of the valve, but if the wear is sufficient then replacing the valve would be the correct solution. for now adjusting the linkage will get me another couple of years.

I'm leaning heavily towards part numbers 29 through 32 needing to be replaced. These parts are the shims that set up the working load resistance and according to my owner operator manual for the F145H plow each shim it's supposed to provide 600 ft lbs of Workforce before allowing the plow trip to trip. It makes sense to me as old as this plow is, those shims are simply rusted away or worn heavily.
Dan it is always my pleasure to find you here in the comments thank you for that my friend.
I wish for you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.🙂🧰

The tractor presenting a problem with its lift actually broke in line but that had to be fixed first, now on to figuring out why the trips on this plow release too easily.
