- This may not be the MOST interesting video to all, but before we started vanlife, we loved watching the budget breakdowns of different places we wanted to go to. Without further ado, here is how much we spent road tripping the UK for 22 days!

ABOUT US:
Hey! We are Kyle and Madie, two 20-something year old kids who live to travel. We have been together since 2016 and graduated college in December of 2021. We left August 27, 2022 to travel the world and travel on a budget of $60 a day as a couple. Follow along with us to see some epic places and see if we are able to stay on budget. Cheers! :)
$500+ a week does seem a lot, but, nearly half of your total spend went on van-juice. The indepencence that that offered was, I think, well spent & justifiable. All of those off the beaten tourist track has made your trip in the UK somewhat unique. Well done. Most enjoyable.
We would completely agree!!!
Great overview video!
Glad you enjoyed it :)
I’m late to cook Sunday dinner now because watched your English tour. That’s something you missed was food, the English breakfast and the Sunday roast. Cheers for sharing, was enjoyable. Stay blessed
Hope you enjoyed it!
A shame you had bad weather and the petrol does cost a lot in the UK. It was interesting to see the breakdown, thanks for sharing.
Maybe we’ll have to come back again for some better weather 😁
Hello Kyle and Madie. You deserve millions of subscribers. I believe you'll reach this soon... Love watching your videos ❤❤❤
Thanks so much!!! That really means a lot 😁❤️
@@kyleandmadie you're welcome. Just continue what you're doing. Take good care always ❤️
So that's about $72 a day which is really good. Most people when they travel to Britain do maybe a week and stay in hotels and rent a car. It's good to track what you spend but you'll have memories for a lifetime.
absolutely!!! Throughout everything we do, we always have stories to tell!
Love seeing thr scenery videos but also like seeing the breakdowns. I am sure the cost of lodging would have been expensive if you had that. Stay safe and enjoy!
I guarantee it would have been WAY more expensive with lodging added in there!
That's actually quite reasonable for three weeks around the UK 🙌
Glad to hear we didn’t do too bad!!! 😁😜
The weather is not crappy in fact it's been hot and very uncomfortable, for awhile. Cost of living is cheaper here than it is in the States
Considering this was back in July/august, it was VERY crappy weather
#1 at last !
Hey you were pretty quick this time 😁
@@kyleandmadie a life of idle leisure makes it possible
Haha I’d believe that!!!!
you guys did amazing!! awesome work budgeting! how much was shipping the van over and fuel costs??
All together after some fuel surcharges, we ended up paying $2800 to ship the van!
@@kyleandmadie then how much for flights? Any camping fees? Awesome job documenting everything I love this! I’m about to start my express van build soon and just compiling good info
@MI_Living we paid for our flights with points! If you check out our website (kyleandmadie.com) we teach you all about how to fly with points! It was only 15,000 points each to fly from Detroit to Paris (+ $120 a person) 😁 we don’t stay in any campsites unless we have to! We use an app over here called park4night and we find tons of amazing free spots to park! Thanks so much for the love ❤️😁
You guys should have visited south west wales. Tenby is a nice seaside town. Much nicer than north wales, bar snowdonia area.
We would have if the weather would have been nicer!!
@@kyleandmadie hopefully you can another time, and the weather is better. That’s why our hills are so green 😂
the weather was so bad in anglesey
but you had to head up to liverpool? lol
I can’t believe they imported a van from the US, mileage is going to be a concern and the fact it would be difficult to find a European van (don’t sell that one here) that doesn’t use diesel. Mileage should be way better than that in this day and age, and compared to the US gas/petrol is way higher but if they’re expecting it to be much cheaper on the continent it won’t be hugely different until you get to Eastern European countries. On the upside, groceries are much cheaper in Europe, so being a little strategic with what is bought could bring food expenses down considerably. If they have an external mains power supply socket on van, it may be worth paying for a night once a week in a caravan/motorhome site and fill up on electricity and fresh water because it’s always included in the cost - tho since they brought a van over from the us they’ll likely need a inverter. I really question the wisdom of shipping that van into Europe, mileage expectations, just the size of it in narrow European roads, fuel type (you can get unleaded obv, but it’s what Americans would consider high octane and that van ain’t designed for that), it’s done now but it was a mistake in my opinion. Still, sure it’s all an adventure and tho they haven’t posted in a while they must be somewhere on the continent now hopefully having a great time.
I was shocked you only get 16mpg out of your van. I get 38mpg out of mine, That would have destroyed your budget for sure. You have seen places in the UK I haven't, mainly because of the price of fuel. They don't call it rip off Britain for nothing. France and Spain are better for Van life so I hope you have a cheaper experience there. Just avoid Switzerland or at least fill the van up with gas in France and do a shop before you go in. Have fun.
Yeah the MPG is definitely a killer 😂 over in Europe we are driving much less than we did in the UK, so we will hopefully save a little money there!!! Thanks for watching 😁
Welcome to England both of you, yes blame our present Government life can be expensive and there are some fantastic places here take care and always lock your van take care 👍
thanks so much!! There sure are some beautiful places in the UK :)
You guys spent so much bringing your van over here. But it uses double the fuel of European vehicles. Would you both not been better to hire one over here for the time here and then another maybe for France. Better still. Correspond with Dan and Buy a homemade camper van here . . The saving on fuel alone would halve, But no shipping costs either. Not sure how it would work, But could you of made it work.
It was significantly cheaper to build out our own van and ship it than it was to buy one already built here!
How much did your new fridge cost?🤣
Haha that was $350, but we should be getting money back from our old one, so they just cancelled each other out 😂😂
16 miles to the gallon!? Good grief!
She’s a gas guzzler 🥲
In the U.K. Vauxhall Movana and Vivaro have some engine configurations that will deliver around 40mpg.
