- Lake District, you are a STUNNER! The past week we had some pretty terrible weather, but Keswick came through with some rays 😎
We got to visit the cutest little street market (Keswick market) as well as have a well deserved pint after our day of swimming and sightseeing 👩🏼🌾
Our trip continues North as we are making our epic road trip around the UK! Next stop, Scotland 🏴

Hey! We are Kyle and Madie, two 20-something year old kids who live to travel. We have been together since 2016 and graduated college in December of 2021. You'll also find North Yorkshire - about an hour from the Lake District - to be equally beautiful. There aren't lots of lakes, but the scenery is just as spectacular in it's own way. North Yorkshire is a separate County from Yorkshire itself.... I'd recommend Richmond castle (impressive!) and Castle Bolton. P.S. They're not fences, they're stone walls...... Those roads are literally hundreds of years old, and were originally intended for horses and carts.
Glad you enjoyed the roads around there in your van. I drove a van around all areas of the lakes for 5 years. It can be challenging, particularly with tourists who have no idea, but you soon get the hang of it. The milk tanker and feed delivery drivers are the real experts though.

Obviously don't expect you to get pronunciations right every time, so it was funny how it really made me wince every time you included the W in Keswick. It's more like Kezzick. And yeah, parking is a nightmare in the main holiday season. Seeing you swimming in the lake reminded me of around 30 years ago teaching my oldest daughter to swim in Derwent Water - we had 2 weeks of crazy hot weather, so lucky. You made me want to return 😍

@@kyleandmadie Don't worry about it guys. The English language must be very confusing from the way so many words are spelled to how they are pronounced? E.G. comb & home? to mention but a few. What's that all about? I as an Englishman of 63 yrs still find it rather crazy. 🤔

Yep - sorry - outside of warm June this is one of the worst summers in my 50+ years here - the lakes didnt get any chance to warm up. They never get really warm ,warm but they can be so better than this year.

@@kyleandmadie The Lake District gained World Heritage status a few years ago, and almost 20 million people now visit the Lake District each year.... it does get very busy! As someone who was born here, I avoid the places you visited, because they get so busy. I personally think the Winter is the best time to see the Lake District. The volume of tourist traffic reduces by around two thirds, and it's a lot easier to get around....

I live about an hours drive from The Lake District and probably take it for granted but I tend to avoid Summer because of how busy it gets. I actually love the aesthetic you get if you go on a windy/rainy day especially hiking in the mountains and its even more stunning in Winter when there's deep snow on the mountains and you get a freezing cold but sunny day - the deep heart of the lake district has to be the drive to and at Scafell Pike (The highest mountain in England) It's a shame you never got to go to that part but glad you enjoyed it.
If you think it's hard doing pronunciations of British place names just wait until you get to the continent. France, Holland, Belgium have got some difficult ones. In the town I grew up in SoCal there is a street called Yosemite. When we were kids my young neighbor called it ' YO-SE-MIGHTY'!!!!
We are AWFUL at pronouncing names of towns 🥲We have a city in Michigan called Ypsilanti (ip-sa-lanti) and everyone from out of state calls it (yip-sa-lanti) and we cringe every time so we can only imagine was locals think hearing us pronounce these...

Only 2 days?? You need to ask first for places to see. Sadly you missed all the mountain passes, a Roman fort at the top of a mountain (Hardknott) , a steam railway, Beatrix Potter, and all the other Lakes. Better luck next time.

There are much bigger waterfalls than Aira Falls across UK and even in lake district - e.g. just a few miles to the west, this;

Keswick is pronounced more like Kez-Ick. The 'w' is not pronounced.
