Indira ji always loved the company of genuine intellectuals. She had great fondness for Arts and music and always encouraged the folk art of India. She was an intellectual in her own way.
I suspect that Shastrijee didn't die a natural death at Taskent but Indira Gandhi colluded with the Soviets to eliminate Shastriji. The reason was her huge almost overwhelming ambition to become the prime minister. And the way Indira leaned towards USSR all through the cold war and her socialist policies (Bank Nationalization etc.), her allowing Soviets unfettered access in our economy, Industry & defence all lead me to conclude this. If Shastriji were not eliminated, he would have solved the Kashmir problem with Gen. Ayub Khan of Pakistan who was very peace-loving and always wanted rapprochement with India. During his time borders were open and people moved about inside each-other's territory without any problem. The war of 1965 changed everything forever.
