Rendezvous with Maneka Gandhi Part 1 & 2

  • The saga of the Gandhi family continues..
There has been intense curiosity about Indira, Rajiv and Sanjay, an obsession spanning more than five decades.
We saw their weddings & too many funerals.
They seemed blessed - and then cursed - as the young wives became widows.
They never spoke. They never told us how it had really been. And so the world continued to speculate..
I had first met Maneka long back when Sanjay was alive, and powerful. She was young and a feisty girl then. The woman who sat before me in 2003 was changed. She seemed somewhat war-weary, somewhat resigned; but social conscience and honesty intact. Her old humour came through in flashes. Her strength and bravery was evident.
In this Rendezvous, Maneka Gandhi broke her long silence and shared the relationships, the love and the turbulence that has marked her life.
For those who missed it - it’s here for all to see..and feel..

Salute to you Simi Ma'am, you took the interview with such simplicity, no pretense, no drama, right to the point, very simple and you talk so well, there is magic in your words, all the interviews taken by you are very good, very heart touching❤Maneka ma'am is really great lady. She has seen a lot of ups and downs in her young age and has faced them bravely. I salute her for her bravery, for her kindness, for her thinking. Lots of love to such a strong lady and again Simi ma'am, I have never seen an interviewer like you. You are great in yourself...love you so much♥️

Six or seven years back , I e-mailed Menaka Ji . I asked her to help rescue two dogs kept in cage in a nearby house. I couldn’t get it done even after police complain. She did responded personally and saw to it that the dogs were rescued. Her heart still so beautiful, even after what life threw at her. I have immense respect for her.

Following are excerpts from an infamous case. you judge the innocence by yourself:
      Maneka Gandhi v/s Indira Gandhi
First Appeal Order No. 74 of 1984
      Decided On, 10 May 1984
      At, High Court of Delhi
By, THE HONOURABLE MR. JUSTICE M.L. JAIN
For the Appearing Parties: Master Feroz, R.K. Anand, R.K. Kaul, Rani Jethmalani, S.U. Khan, Varun Gandhi, Advocates.
      ................................
      (5) SMT. Indira Gandhi the mother of late Shri Sanjay Gandhi filed a reply on 23- 10-83. She said that after the departure of Smt Maneka Gandhi and Varun from 1, Safdarjung Road, Varun was allowed to meet her on some Sundays for a brief spell of time but since October, 1982 Varun was not allowed to visit her except on 13-3-83, his birthday that too for less than half an hour. However, she contended that she is one of the legal heirs to the estate of late Shri Sanjay Gandhi but she would not be interested to claim her share for herself and would like her share and interest in the properties to be treated as the properties- accruing to the ownership of Varun for his benefit She desired that the properties to the extent of her share and that of Varun should remain intact till he comes of age to manage the same by himself. She had no objection to the grant of letters of Administration in favour of Smt Maneka Gandhi to the extent of her share only but with respect to the share of Varun and that of her provided for by her in his favour, she asked for suitable arrangements to be made so as to avoid any misuse in any form by any one and to have strict vigilance over the management of the said shares accruing to Varun.
      (6) IN her counter reply Smt Maneka Gandhi alleged that the visits of Varun to Smt Indira Gandhi had to be restricted because the child was being placed in undesirable circumstances likely to cause distress and trauma. He was being used for political publicity by his grandmother and was made to pose before the photographer and television crews. The child was being exploited instead of being loved and no mother can acquiesce into the use of her child and as such these visits had to be restricted and curtailed. Smt Indira Gandhi who is 'administering the joint family property has not paid a single paise for the education, maintenance and welfare of this little child whose father's accounts have been frozen after his sudden and untimely death whereas other grandchildren are getting all benefits out of the income of joint undivided family property. She contended that Smt Indira Gandhi has no locus standi to file
Does this connect with what she told in the interview ???????????

I have always had an image of Maneka Gandhi as a rude and egoistic woman. I had never seen any of her interviews and her parliament speeches or heard of the things she did for the animal rights and child rights. I always thought of Sanjay Gandhi as a negative character in the Indian politics. I got to know few secrets about the Gandhi family through the autobiography of the late Khushwant Singh, other than that I never tried to seek the truth behind the feud in the family. That image of Maneka and Sanjay Gandhi changes from today. Based on the interview I found her to be a strong and brutally honest person.

But she did her best with Varun & we can't hate her for his doing as we can't blame her for loving sanjay despite all of his short coming .
I also think she had been dominated by Sanjay and she still consider lot of things as love but they were abuse .I don't know it is there i can feel it .

This epic interview should be a an eye-opener to every human to take a pause and think about 2 things a) how soon we judge a person in our society especially a public figure just based on a journalist's agenda than reality. Growing up I always heard the same version about Sanjay Gandhi slapping his mother or Indra gandhi had a hand in his death as she couldn't able to control him. Apparently both seemed to be false reporting! b) Menaka Gandhi: a young soul was subjected to every possible turmoil from having everything to having nothing but still she survived and not bitter! On top of it she needs to defend her husband for something would have been part of political scene back then. I feel we all were very unfair about Sanjay, Menaka or Varun! No wonder why she wasn't been able to survive long in politics as she was too blunt and honest. Such a true women who still kept his love alive even after 23 years later and blushing while talking about her husband's every little things. Just broke my heart!
