Want to wire them to a 2 position “ON-ON” 3-way old school metal flip switch and wire them also to the cargo lights my concern is do I have to run and use a relay also
I ask because The Cargo lights have a switch in the cab which may allow me to turn AUX lights on from inside the cab using cargo light switch the plan is to use the Aux lights when reversing or line up to trailer at nighttime but not necessarily be on with my reverse bulbs as I have led ones in my tail lights with plenty of light for normal situations in parking spots not so much for trailering/towing
The 3-Way 2-position “ON-ON” switch I’m thinking of using will be mounted somewhere close to my hitch under rear bumper and Plan is to have the first “ON” position so AUX lights function with cargo lamp switch in cab but I can use the other “ON” position to flip lights on from back of truck if disconnecting trailer or need light behind truck so I don’t need an off function on my switch
Have 7pin trailer plug in in the back of truck so my hot to battery and grounds can be wired off of it
1) do I need a relay to wire lights up in this manner
2) can I run my wires to my cargo lamp hot wire that is behind cargo lamp outside of the cab with T-Taps to not have to wire all the way inside cab up to the cargo lamp switch
3) can I grab from 12v hot from my 7pin or should I run my hot all the way up to battery

First off, nice video & 2ndly, all you just did was wire the switch backwards with the two power outputs coming from 2 sources! I did this with my motorcycle's undergrowth led pods! It's nice to be able to control how & when something works! Again nice & easy to follow video!

Does the green wire runs from the batterie negative side?
@@shijansantos You can run it to the battery negative or you can ground it to a chassis ground, which ever is easiest to you. It just needs to be a ground. Thanks for watching!

My question just to make sure; if I wanted the switch to 'throw' the opposite as what you showed (down is in tandem with stock back up lights) I just install the switch in dash that way...wiring stays the same....yeah...makes sense...

Great video and explanation, thank you for this. I do have a question about how I would like to wire my aux reverse lights. I would like the aux light to come on while in reverse and but also be controlled by a stock switch in the vehicle that controls the cargo bed lights. Truck is a 2019 Chevy Silverado. Any input you had would be greatly appreciated, thank you again!

Great VIDEO! Thank you!! I have only one question though... as I am confused about the "orange" wiring. When talking about the switch, you discuss orange going to pin 8 on one end and to the battery (for constant on availability and switch light remaining on if switch is grounded) or to fuse box (for ignition on activation) . MAKES sense on both senarios.
THEN regarding the relay... you note that orange is connected to pin 30 and then back to the battery.
SO... will there be TWO orange wires connecting directly to the battery... one to switch and one to relay?

Perfect timing for his video! I just bought a Globex Performance rear license plate mount thing on my 2016 jeep renegade... I am using Rigid Radiance. I wired the red ambients as a third (fourth?) brake light. I am working on figuring out which is the reverse light so I can tap into to get the same functionality as this from my relay.
One question, is there any difference with a 6 pin switch?
It would depend on the brand of switch, MOST of the time manufacturers stick to a universal pin layout as to make all switches the same, but sometimes you get a company that just doesn't follow the rules. I would just reference the pin numbers in this video and see if they match up to the pins on your switch because with a 6 pin, I THINK it's just another ground pin. Great video. Question is there a way to add a momentary switch to the circuit to flash the lights? I'm guessing it is as simple as addinh the switch and some one way resistors to eliminate feed back. Maybe I'm just tired but I cant figure it out.
I did mine on a relay so if I put it in reverse they would be switched on and off automatically with the high beams. Foreward off-road lights are similar, but with the ability to disable them with a dash rocker as well as off with low beam.
Appreciate this video. I going to hook up the external backup lights to my truck. I was told I probably wouldn’t need to have a relay, but you are using one for these . The lights I’m going to use are 9,000 lumens . Should I be concerned about using a relay?

The relay is a standard automotive relay, available at any parts store The pins on the relay are numbered.
Hi rocky this is exactly what I was looking for but can this same process be done with a 5 pin halo switch?
I think the rigid kit already comes with the relay harness... i think this is a good idea though.
Is it possible to make the neutral of the switch (middle) for the lights to come on when reversing. The top push in when you want to use them freely and the bottom to turn them off?

I have upfitter switches and would like to use them along with the extra switch that will go installed to my trailer for better lighting while backing up and hooking up. Is it possible to use the pin box to do some of the wiring that would connect truck and trailer with the upfitter switches?

Is there a way to bypass the relay? My set up are in cabin RGB LEDs t-tab to the interior cab light with an on-off-on switch. Everything is working fine but because of my cabin lights dim out when the door closes... I believe that the relay is making a buzz as the lights dim out. Any advise?
Terrific video and instruction. I want undertake the same installation as you have shown, however, with one addition. I would like to add a switch in the rear of my vehicle that would allow me to turn the rear lights on and off manually. Are you able to help with how I would wire this switch to work with the three position switch at the front. Thanks
You could add another switch to the rear, but it would be independent from the other switch. You would have to turn the lights on and off at the rear. You couldn't turn them on at the rear and then off at the front, or on at the front then off at the rear and so on. Automotive switches and wiring makes it very difficult to replicate a typical "3-way" switch like you would have in your house.

I have an Auxbeam switch panel. Would it be possible to wire it with 2 different switches instead of a rocker? to where I can manually turn lights on on my switch panel but have a different button mounted on the dash where "on" means it turns on with the reverse and off means it doesn't?

where does the second orange wire from the battery come from. one to the lights and one to the switch. or did you just splice it somewhere?
Awesome video but i still have 1 question, i plan to run the switch to the fuse box is it better to run the relay to the fuse box as well or should that be direct to the battery?
I always run relays directly to the battery with an inline fuse, but you could run it to the fuse box as well. Just make sure you are using an empty/aux location in the fuse box for the relay and not sharing one. You could use a shared one for the switch though. Thanks for watching!

Idk if you have a video for this question but I want to add a dual color (white and amber) light bar to my 4runner spoiler and my plan is to have it like this where the white turns on with the reverse and also have it turn on with a switch but now my problem is how can I wire the light bar where I can also turn the amber on with a separate switch. So pretty much the light bar has 2 color and I would like to have each color its own switch and also have the white turn on when I hit reverse, is that possible?

If they are under 30 Amps combined, you could theoretically use a single relay. I would suggest using a relay and fuse on each though, just to be safe.

The lights used in the video were a low end/no name brand light. The were advertised as 36W each, this would make them just over 5 amps for the pair, but as I always do I tested them later on and they turn out to be 9W each. This now makes them about 1.5 amps for the pair. This type of "cube" light is usually around 12W per light making a pair about 2 amps, now with all of that boring info aside, I can answer your question. For a standard pair of "cube" lights you can get away with wire a little as 18GA. but I would recommend 16-14GA with a 10A fuse. Sorry for the long explanation, thanks for watching!

In theory you would have to run everything through the switch first.... so you could disconnect power to said lights ...

Could you write out the pin numbers for the relay and the switch as a little side note
Relay *Pin 30* = Battery + with a fuse, *Pin 85* = Ground, *Pin 86* = + From switch, *Pin 87* = + For Aux lights. As for the switch, pin numbers would vary from switch style & brand. I hope this helps, thanks for watching!

What kind of relay is this? As all the 5 pins i look at have different diagrams on them
Most are the same, they can just be wired differently. The relays I use are known as Bosch style relays.

Great question. I have reviewed a lot of installs and it seems more often than not a diode is NOT being used.

You may have covered this but, how did you wire the 2 lights together to get 1 positive and 1 negative?
tattoochef82 82 He wired the lights wires together. Positive to positive and negative to negative. In the end he end up with one positive and one negative. I hope that helps!
