    If you only want LED reverse lights just cut in to the reverse light wiring in the tail lights. It's a really easy fix without having to chase around the engine bay and dash. It's only 2 wires, just keep positive to positive and negative to negative if daisy chaining a couple of LEDs as they draw very little power.

      Legally you'll need a switch. And you'll need to determine whether your wire and fuse are beefy enough for the extra current. Caveat emptor.

    I've started putting a plastic splint in with any joined wire or soldered connector. I cut little 2 to 3 mm wide strips off a PET drink bottle and slip one or two of those inside the heat shrink. They won't melt and they add a bit of rigidity to the join which makes them longer lasting.

      There's not technically a negative trigger wire. The positive trigger wire goes from the reverse light input to pin 85 (or 86) on your relay. the negative that's along side it is to earth the LED in the switch so you don't need to connect it, but I show it at 9:20 - I just shorten, add a ring terminal and earth it to the battery.

    If my switch has only 2 wires (blue and black) but is a 4 pin on/off rocker, and I have done everything shown in the video, why is it not working? The only other difference is that I have a small round 7 pin which has the black wire as the constant and the reverse lights. Also, I noticed that the black trailer ground wire is joined to the positive terminal and has an inline fuse. Would having 2 separate inline fuses (for trailer lights and LED lights) both running from the positive battery terminal make a difference to the power received by the trailer reverse/constant wire? And why have they made the reverse wire a constant wire? Wouldn't that mean that the reverse lights would be on all the time? Should I do something different? Cheers Tania

    • @4wdsupacentreAu
      @4wdsupacentreAu  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey Sean,
      That’s correct but you could have them switched independently. A good idea would be to have a 3 position switch, so you could have ON, OFF, and ON when reverse lights are on.
      You could just use 12V power from the battery as the trigger for the ON position of the switch so the reverse light doesn’t need to be on. I’d recommend a fuse if you go that way, and keep in mind you can flatten your battery, plus you’ll need to check the legality of having rear facing lights that you can switch.

      Sorry I've taken so long to reply here.
      What you'd have to do is replace the switch with a 3 way switch obviously (probably a DPDT), use the same method for the trigger if you want the reverse lights to work and then on the third position of the switch you'd need to have a constant power source into the switch and then make the output of that third position linked to the trigger output from the switch (white wire) or run another independent trigger to the same pin on the relay
      I might do a video on this idea too!

      Absolutely can do - but if you wanted to have a crack yourself, you'd just need to connect the red trigger wire (that I trimmed) and black earth wire directly to the battery.
      Add an inline fuse for the red trigger wire near the battery and you're laughing!
      It means the included switch will turn the lights on and off without needing another input (like the reverse lights in this case).

    • @enjay8950
      @enjay8950 Před 3 lety

      You will need 2 relays. To do this, run a trigger wire from the headlights to the first relay.(Which therefore switches the relay on when headlights come on) Then add a second relay to control the reverse lights, and pull the trigger for that relay from the first relay. So when the first relay receives power from the headlights it then supplies power to the second relay. which then supplies power to the reverse lights.
      So power runs through the first relay (when headlights on) and into the second relay, and then into the reverse lights. The headlights controlling the first relay will switch on the second relay therefore sending power to second relay.
      Just simple 4 pole normally open relay.
      It's a bit hard to explain but easy to draw up the circuit for it. I hope it makes some sense from what i've written. If you type into youtube "moss motors how to wire relays" There is a 3 minute video which is very good.

      @@4wdsupacentreAu is it possible to run this without the switch? It comes with a white blue and black cable connected to the switch, should I cut and solder these together for a constant on feed to the relay?

    Great video but I’ll leave it to the professionals.

      Hey mate, I did tap into the reverse light wire - as a trigger for the relay. There are plenty of ways to set up extra reverse lights and this is just one of them.
      But if you mean run lights directly off it without a fuse and relay... go ahead if that’s how you want to do it, it’s your vehicle! Just check local rules in case you need a switch to be able to turn them off if need be!
      Doing it the way in the video means you can run some pretty powerful lights, completely on their own circuit, so you have separate fuses and it’s safer / won’t overload your factory wiring.
      Again this is one way to do it, but if anyone has their own ideas and they’re happy to give them a go, then go for it!
      Cheers,
      Cahn

      No, it’s hooked up to the reverse light wiring so can only come on when the vehicle is in reverse!

      Lights can't blind people.
