Thanks for the videos, glad to see then back on my feed... your videos helped me understand what I needed from a new AVR when I was shopping a while back ... my 90s Sony reciever finally died last spring and I picked up a Denon AVR S960H for a great price. So far I'm very happy with it for my living room entertainment system. Cheers, and happy holidays!

@@TechnoDad BTW, I noticed what looks like a few nice lenses for a DSLR/Mirrorless (not being nosey, swear!!) in the background. Just was thinking you'd be a good reviewer of photography equipment if that's an interest of yours. A major strength of your A/V videos (IMO) was discussing return on investment for items and photography equipment is just like audio equipment investment wise. Often one item 3x the price of another barely outperforms the more budget friendly choice- if at all. Would look forward to that, assuming it's something you'd enjoy. 4500 owner since jan 20 and still love it. Only thing that has me eyeing new receivers is being able to add more height channels.
2 things- those external amps will wake your speakers up plus make your AVR last longer. Also I'd look at some cooling fans or an aircom, the cooler running temp will keep that 4700 kicking a$$ for a lot longer. Hot temp is my only complaint about the 4500.

So I'm about to purchase 2 Klipsch RP6000F II and want to fire them with the 3800H - Sub will be a RP1200 SW
Most of the time I will listen to music only, wether through the eARC from the TVs spotify, my smartphone spotify via Bluetooth or the built in Denons spotify.
I want to bi-wire / bi-amp the Speakers, so my question is how the Watt output of the denon will be?
denon wiring guide suggests to use the "sourround back" channels to bi-amp/wire the speakers - so will there be 1 amp per channel? 105W at the highs and 105W at the lows?

Whew Jonas!......... slow down fellow audiophile.
There's a lot here. Perhaps some more time sifting through what's important to you or not. Please consider that a good stereo system & a good home theater system ARE mutually exclusive. One can have either, but not both.
Check the specs too. As a HT A/V receiver, the Denon 3800H fails with a frequency response of -3dB @ 20Hz to 20KHz because it can't handle any subwoofer frequencies below 20 (really 30). As a stereo receiver, the Denon 3800H fails because when used in a 2 channel mode, the distortion skyrockets.
The one semi-exception............. is to use that "excrement" brand's surround processor. It's the only way to sit on the fence without it being so uncomfortable.

The X1800H you show is not a US/ Canadian model. The US/Canadian model comes with Front Pre outs, making it more versatile than the 2800 in some respects. Adding a 100W amp to run just the front channel speakers is a very nice bonus. This model unfortunately does not have the Audessy XT32, but neither does the 2800.

This is the first time i've contacted an American site and it may well be the only time... but.... Usually our prices over here in the UK tend to be more (generally) than with you in the US... never the less. Three months ago I purchased the Denon AVC-X8500HA new in silver (which is an amp over here and not a receiver therefore no tuner) for £2,249. You can work out the £ to $ conversion due to fluctuations in the exchange rate, but either way that's a very good price. It was bought from a main dealer by the way and it's not a refurbished or a "seconds" unit but boxed and brand new with a six year guarantee.

I was looking at the x1800, but I think the x2800 would be better but because room is right next to neighbour, I ended up getting a Samsung q600b soundbar with 9200s rears. It has a upfiring pair of front speakers, which I feel only produce processed front l+r but the overall sound is well enough for a lounge. 30 maximum for most films. The woofer only hits from about 40hz, and I crave deeper bass. But it is a very good sounding system. One day!!! 🙃

I advice against 7.1.6 because there is a video of some guy who actually does the mastering of movie theatre films to 4K UHD BluRays and he says the best configuration for your home is a 9.4.4 because having 6 speakers on top makes the top layer too crowded and not spacious. You can easily locate the mid top speakers. He also said the front-wide channels do help a lot with the base layer being more atmospheric and closer to the theatre experience. So go 9.2.4 or if you have the space to use 4 subwoofers for optimal bass saturation.

    • @anone3842
      @anone3842 Před 12 dny

I don't think the wide channels even get used most of the time because they only get used by Atmos processing if the Atmos sound objects are panned from front to side surround speakers... if they use static objects... which almost all movies do only - then any objects on front or surround channels will *never* be played on the wide channels at all - I think Ealan Osbourne even had video about this, where he found nothing coming out of his wide channels at all for many movies. And this mastering guy saying don't use top middle? Even TechnoDad here showed in his test audio videos that they are much better than a blank space in middle, so...not sure the mastering guy knows what he is talking about, or how the home systems work!

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY 6700 HAS 95% OF SAME FEATURES AS 6800. YOU ARE A MORON FOR SPENDING $4,500 ON THE 6800.
GOT THE 6700 UP HERE IN CANADA AT VISION ELECTRONICS FOR $1,450 CDN . WHEN IT CAME OUT 3 YEARS AGO IT WAS $3,600 CDN .

15:57 I’m willing to pay a bit more for a quality product assembled in Japan. They use better components. I can get the 4800 for 1.300 euros or the Marantz CINEMA 50 also for 1.300 euros. I’m not sure what to get, yet.
Alleged Denon has better cinematic qualities and Marantz better audio music qualities.

Personally, I would go with the X4800H.

Too bad they don’t have two HDMI outputs, I’d rather still buy the S970H because of that.

Just discovered there's no point in blowing cash on stupid Soundbars but instead get an AVR. Sadly after learning a lot, all these have some or other issues from Onkyo having bs QC problems, Yamaha making their AVRs with plastic despite solid quality and sound, Marantz and Denon downgrading their AKM based AVRs to a cheap Ti DAC chip. Arcam having insane price but nothing out of ordinary etc etc. I'm thinking Yamaha A6A for now.

for the price of expensive avrs. their amp section should be like 150 watts into 8ohms minimum and 200 watts into 4 ohms. most have garbage amps. and they wanna charge like over 2k, some avrs are over 6000 dollars…. and still have bugs. 🤦🏻🤦🏻

Yes, that’s the problem. People who buy in the price categories surely (like me) have big floor standing front speakers and even my center is rather big. Why don’t they build asymmetrical amps with 2x250 or even 300W for front ( and Stereo) and 7x80 W or so. You can draw 1500W with no problem from any socket in the world. In Germany you can draw 3,5 kW out off a normal power socket….
And digital amps have a real good efficiency factor and don’t get too hot like class A. Ok, one could buy a stereo power amp or two mono blocks, but I don’t want to clutter my room with too much gadgets. The best subwoofers, like SVS, have amp with 1000 to 3500W ! And you need Watts for bass.
My front speakers would play so much deeper and fatter with more power.
