    V-MODA has finally released their first studio reference monitoring headphones called the M-200. The new V-MODA M-200 headphones sport a very similar look to their other headphones in their range but the M-200's have a super-flat sound structure that gives a very accurate reproduction of the original source material that producers and editors need.
    The M-200's have 50mm drivers that are capable of frequencies up to 40kHz and the earcups fit completely over the ear for superior passive noise cancelling. The M-200's are made of mostly metal making them very durable for studio sessions. They also have the metal click-fold hinge which makes them compact for easy transport and storage. The M-200 headphones also have magnetic removable and replaceable ear cushions and you can still customize the outside of the earcups with your own branding or designs.
    The V-MODA M-200's come bundled with two separate cables, a 1/4-inch adapter, and a clam-shell style hard case. Watch our review and unboxing videos and then you can check out our review summary below to see if the M-200's are perfect for your own studio monitoring needs.

    Just recently bought the M-200, the build quality of the headphones is incredible but that about where the niceties end. The comfort is horrible, the padding on the headband is too thin to the point where you can feel the hard stitching, and the pads on cups are so thin you can actually feel the integrated ring on the bottom of the pads, the clamping force makes you feel like your head is being pinched in half. The sound quality of the speakers with the speakeasy cable is A-shaped, meaning the mids are emphasized and treble and bass recessed. Giving them a very muffled sound. For the balanced cable, I'll have to get back to you on that because I haven't found anything that takes a 3.5 mm connection. Why couldn't V-Moda use the industry standard of a 4.4 mm connector instead? Now I have to buy an adapter for a very uncommon connector. Overall thus far the headphone is way overpriced for what your getting. You are better off buying a pair of Audio Technica ATH-MSR7b if you want a balanced pair of headphones. They're $100 less and they sound better than V-Moda M-200. If V-Moda wants to be a fashion company, sell clothes not headphones.
    P.S. The balanced cable subdued it's A-shaped signature a little but the detail is lost due to the headphones being so mid centric. These headphones will not give you an accurate response as the artist intended. Unless you feel like mess with a equalizer and that might not work for some people.

    • @natskar
      @natskar Před 3 lety

      They are very comfortable to me and have the flattest eq I've heard in a closed back headphone (my opinion)...and it comes with the quarter inch cable adapter in the box so why would you need to buy one? Also my thinking of why you might believe they sound A shaped is that you're used to listening and getting attuned with headphones that have recessed mids making these "pop out" more to your ears...but I may be wrong. I don't necessarily disagree with you about the audio technica headphones you named though, especially they are more comfortable.

    • @richardwarner4585
      @richardwarner4585 Před 3 lety

      @@natskar, I was talking about the 3.5 mm balanced cable, all the balanced devices I could find either use an XLR or 4.4 mm port, that why I said you need an adaptor. After re-comparing them to Sundara (balanced) and K712pro (yes they're open back but they are the flattest headphones I got), I now come to the conclusion that M-200 still have a slightly muffled in your face sound that could be mitigated by some wider and/or deeper pads. If anybody knows if V-Moda or a third party has made or is going to make bigger pads please let me know. My ears hurt from wearing these.

    These headphones are great to listen to music casually as well. I actually think they are the best in the current VModa line. The M100s sound bloated in the bass, and it bleeds in to the other frequencies. M100s and the other lesser models sound muddy.
    I don't think these are strictly for studio use. All genres play well with the M200.

    I'm pretty sure the Plate covers on the M-200 aren't compatible with the over ear custom plates available on the website
    "WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SHIELDS FOR THE M‑200 AND THE OTHER OVER-EAR MODELS?
    As the ear cup housings on the M‑200 are larger and flatter, so must the shields be. The M-200 shields therefore have a larger ‘safe space’ where we can color print or laser engrave your design or logo, but are currently not available for 3D printing. Please note that the Over-Ear Shield Kit (www.v-moda.com/us/en/products/over-ear-custom-shield-kit is not compatible with the M-200."

The padding in the earcup came out and I can't put it back it's ripped 360° all the way around. Braided 3.5mm cord also didn't last. Once the gold plating came off it. Pfft no use for it. Just wanted to throw in 1 thing about the one ear monitoring. The flex in these makes it super easy to listen on one ear, all you need to do is push the headphone behind your ear & it stays. This is one of the main reasons why V-Moda is my #1 choice for DJ headphones. I've had a pair of m-100's for 6 years now (replacing them finally due to wear and tear) and they still hold that flex. --- Really looking forward to trying these out. Enjoyed the unboxing/review, good to hear that they are really making them with a flat response. 100% gonna get some now.

      I still have my original crossfade LP from like 10 years ago. V-Moda headband and ear cushion materials are awful, and are prone to flaking and falling apart, but you can buy replacement ear-cushions online that are deeper than the originals, so your ear doesn't touch the speaker grille, and I wrap my headband in self-adhering silicone tape, which provides a great protective cover and is easily cleaned, without any kind of glue that would stick to the V-Moda.

      It really is personal preference BUT most people who produce like to have reference monitors like these M-200 since the sound is absolutely flat... The M-100's are way more rounded in sound. You might want to use both to get an idea of the source material and what they will play like on other systems...

    I'm a producer and I'm planning to buy V-Moda headphones and I generally make Future Bass, Pop , Melodic Dubstep and Bass house and I want a great MIXING AND MASTERING headphone ..I'm confused between the m-200 , wireless 2 and m-100 master .... SO which one should I buy ?... And which one has the best soundstage ? And are those ear cups of m200 bigger than the m-100 master and wireless 2 ? .......

    • @RealDJblaze

      If you want FLAT monitoring/mastering headphones then you should go with the M-200... If you want a good all around listening set of headphones then go with the wireless 2 or M-100 Master depending on if you want them wireless or not... They almost sound identical...

(dongle notwithstanding). tbf I already have several pairs and tend to use the legendary (and affordable) Sony MDR-CD900ST most of the time at home. As for the Crossfade non-codec version, I still don't see the point in selling headphones that have inferior bluetooth quality to just about anything on the market these days, unless they're simply getting rid of old stock. Aptx should be there by default.

    Big fan of V-modas but for studio use these just seem to be confused. Cable should be more of a studio cable as opposed to their normal thin cable. Pads should be thicker and with a larger opening. They look to be similar to their others which they call over ear but are really on ear. Price should be closer to $200. $350 just doesn’t seem right when they basically took their wireless vmodas and removed the wireless function and tuned to be more neutral.

    • @RealDJblaze
      @RealDJblaze  Před 4 lety +3

      I have to totally disagree with you on this one... The cable could be a bigger/thicker cable but the Pads are JUST right. You don't want them thicker because it will change the sound signature. These pads feel different than all the others they've made in the past even though they look similar. I have huge ears and All my V-MODA's always fit all the way over my ears with the exception of the M-80 and XS. The Price is just right at $350. You need to try them out first before making comments on things you've never used. The sound signature is excellent for studio use and they are super-flat for these users. The sound is totally different from the others which is what they wanted to do with these all along. Studio headphones don't need wireless function. They have the Wireless versions for that. People won't use these to DJ with or to listen to smartphone music so the bluetooth is not necessary.

    I have to disagree with your opinion on the M-200’s. I just picked up a set of these cans and the sound is average at best. The mids are over-emphasized to the detriment of vocals and highs. These do not sound like an accurate representation of the source material with a flat EQ. They sound like listening with an EQ boosting the mids way, way too high.

    • @RealDJblaze
      @RealDJblaze  Před 4 lety

      That is your opinion as well and you are entitled to it! Sound is almost totally subjective and people also hear things differently. I still stand by my review and the assessment of the M-200's. In fact I still use them daily for monitoring and editing...hope you find something else you like better than these. Good luck!

    The cable is way too short and crappy (1meter). Can't turn your head around without knocking something over. Good luck unplugging it from any device without the adaptor coming off.. Very flat bass response which means you'll be endlessly adding bass to your mix. Not loud enough either. Really like the design though...

    • @RealDJblaze
      @RealDJblaze  Před 4 lety

      So basically, these headphones should be used as your super-flat option that is exactly as the source material, but true producers (as I can see you are) would have multiple headphones or multiple monitors to get another more round and bass-heavy sound to dial it all in.

      DJBooth Pro Audio I get what you’re saying, thanks for the answer;I just chose the wrong headphone for what I want. I’m just letting people know what they can expect from the cable (wasn’t covered in your review and in my opinion is very important) and bass response in case anyway expects to make bass heavy music with these.
