- A video showcasing carrier qualifications with Training Airwing-1, Training Airwing-2 and Training Squadron (VT) 22 on the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) during an underway supporting carrier qualifications. George Washington is pierside in Naval Station Norfolk in the stages of inspection and survey, a comprehensive evaluation of the material condition of the ship to ensure it’s fully prepared for sea operations. (U.S. Navy video by Mass Communication Specialist Seaman August Clawson)
I love the look of love on his face and body language about his "Mother" watching this video. What an amazing thing for both of them. You deserve this. ❤
I remember when we took our A6 nuggets out to qualify & back then, the Navy used T-2's for primary flight training. The look of exhilaration on the pilot's faces with their first trap. Navy aviators RULE ! God bless them all ! 🫡 🇺🇸
A good friend from college flew the A-6. He loved the aircraft. Especially after flying low levels through the mountains out of Whidbey Island
T2 was before A4 for jet training in 80s.
He's living the dream! ❤
That’s gotta be the greatest job in the world. Congratulations.
Much respect for any pilot who can land a jet on a boat.
I'm sure glad that trainin' kept kickin' in!
As a Plankowner of the USS George Washington I can't tell you how proud I am that she is back in the active fleet and training the newest generation of Naval Aviators (and the rest of the crew that support her). The Commissioning CO, RADM Nutwell, put it succinctly on the day we were commissioned (4 July 1994), "The Commanding Officer that will put this ship to bed has not yet been born!" The admonition to the crew was to keep CVN 73 in fighting shape for the next 50 years. She is halfway there! God Bless her and all who sail (and fly!) on her!
Born in Queens, NY also, my parents and little sister flew down to Pensacola to witness my Winging. While my family was very proud of my accomplishment, 😅my mother commented privately “ Son I am very proud of you, but when are you going to use the brains God gave you. It wasn’t until she arrived at Pensacola that she fully realized that Navy pilots land planes on boats. She said, with all the airports all over the world, you want to land a plane on a boat🤷♂️! While funny she maintained a look of puzzlement why anyone, particularly her dear son would want to do a thing like land a plane on a boat.
Returning from very black and nasty night ASW hop in the North Atlantic her words would sink into my brain even for just a micro second….mother had a point!
Capt J F 👨✈️
Your mother is so proud of you
So are we
Brings back great memories. Retired A-3 pilot
The A-3 Skywarrior was such a badass aircraft. Shame it was retired.
Loved that Spain flag representing. Congrats to all Naval Aviators. Best job in the world, I'd say.
Awesome work!
Fly Navy
Fly Marines
Awesome Video. Thank you all for your sacrifice and service. Merry Christmas and God bless
Congrats. Great motivational speech.
I was on the USS Ranger CV-61 back in the 80's and it's funny years later they still use the "ouija board" for aircraft deck location because technology just can't do it as quickly as a human!!
Way to go V2X making the Navy look good.
God bless all of our Nation’s War Fighters. 🇺🇸💪🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸
They got balls of gold !
It's the night landings where the rubber meets the road. I understand you never get use to them
VT-21 for the win. :)
what are wings?
Dear mama.
Bitchin' Video!!!!!!!! 🦅 ⚓ 🇺🇸
I thought Quals were done solo?
You and me both. Surely, they're not putting instructors in the back seat now during initial quals. If so, it's a huge step toward wuss-dom.... If there's too much risk to do it solo after all that FCLP, just go ahead with UAV's and put wings on the terminal gamer-kids.
The aviator already has his wings when doing carrier qualification.
No, a pilot must qualify landing on carriers as part of the training curriculum to get their wings, if they don't pass, no wings - at least not in carrier jets. When they qualify on carrier landings in their assigned fleet aircraft (after initial jet training) they have passed intial training & gotten their wings, so when they qualify on the carrier at t hat point yes they do have their wings.
@@lori1270 Not anymore, Navy is currently working on phasing out carrier qual in the t-45.
So military speak I know
NOT to be mistaken that we all should open the airways to Drunks, Punks, Addicts, etc ! Get it right please.
Out
My vision sucked so that dream when down the toilet for me!😒
It's still alive, as nowadays they'll provide you with Lasik if you meet the other qualification standards.
You Generals playing with 35, F-35, and "Dick" - make sure you are only copying the fact that he was a hard worker, a perfectionist, fearless, ansharpshooter, extremely quick with a punch and reflexes ( could catch flies with his hands), and was dexterious - could use both hands equally. Was admired by the military, and police. But never as much as my grandfather....
It is SOOO nice to see a British Aircraft playing a PRIMARY role in the US NAVY
