This man is a legend and a saint among those of us who practice the art. Thank you so much for the translation. I've been watching the original since it was posted, and am happy to see it in a more familiar script.

Master Chen Xiaowang has impressed me with his wonderful way of teaching Tai Chi and also Chinese calligraphy: I was lucky enough to learn something from him!

It's the key and the method that can be refined until the day we die. There is no end to softness and the softer we become the more mysterious our power.

Thank you for providing a correct translation! This was a jewel, so I couldn't leave it as it was, but unfortunately lacked language skill. Glad there was someone with precise knowledge to translate this important piece.

I was just thinking the same thing. When I watch Yang style teachers who have real skill and describe and demonstrate the eight energies, at the higher levels its all internal they can throw you around like a rag doll and transmit various Jins to send you flying or into your organs, etc...as long as they touch hands with you. Even when their body is in a very awkward comprised position. This Chen style while clearly an excellent martial art and this a top excellent Chen style master, appears much more like Shaolin mastery combined with some more circular movements and relaxation to perfect body alignments for Li issuance. That's not a bad thing in any way. Shaolin is excellent and effective. My body is too old for that though haha. I'd rather learn Yang style from Sifu Liang Dehua or Sifu Adam Mizner online. The way I see them teach the various jins for combat seem more Tai Chi Chuan to me. Very interesting and grateful to see this video posted. Have 20 + DVDs of this great Chen Style master. It does feel Shaolin is the biggest influence here in this Chen Style. Very interesting.

@@greg6509 I mean, Chenjiagou and Shaolin are like 30 miles from each other. It would not be unusual to say they didn't exchange knowledge. However saying Chen isn't Taiji goes into the question of what is Taiji, because Yang came from Chen. Not to mention, there are multiple versions of Yang, from what I understand older forms were much more similar to the Chen style, but the forms were gradually simplified over time.

@@taoliu3949 All good points. From my historical research, the Chen boxing Yang Luchan learned was much different than what is taught now in Chen village. Check out the fast forms of the Gu Lüping (Lisheng), Tian Zhaolin, and Wu Tunan lineages of authentic Old Yang Style. This is about as close as what we can get today to what the original yang style looked like. All of these lineages have masters though that can express Jins the way I'm describing. Without the need for almost any physical force or li used. I've only seen a couple Chen Masters be able to do this. James McNeil's Chen Style Master, Master Pan Wing Chow who learned from Chen Fake the first road back in the early 1930s was one of these if you check out his videos. Master Wu Tunan, disciple of Yang Shaohou and before that the Wu founder, is one of the big ones who historically claims Chen Style was never called Taijiquan and is different than what was taught to Yang Luchan as the Chen master who taught it also learned from Jiang Fa. Jiang Fa brought some kind of Taoist martial art to the Chen Village. That art, combined with the Chen Family Pao Chui became what we commonly know today as Chen Style Taijiquan. Which has much Shaoilon influence. Some say Old Yang Style was taijiquan without the Pao Chui influence. Who knows, but check out those three lineages on youtube including Qi Qingsheng. Tian Zhaolin will take you to his grandson. This lineage looks the most like Chen Style from the outside. What I've research was it got name taijiquan or grand ultimate boxing from royalty seeing Yang Luchan perform it. Beforehand, it's ancestors were know by other names. Fascinating stuff and I do study and respect Chen Style as well. But Old Yang is my fav. Cheers!

@@greg6509 Paochui has been around since the Ming Dynasty, long before Yang Luchan was born.
Yes, it's true that historically "Taichi" did not apply to the Chen style and was applied retroactively. But then that begs the question "what is Taiji" because Yang Luchans style obviously came from the Chen Style.
