  • My dad teaches me how to cook a Fiji style Pulao. It’s a great one pot meal that’s great for feeding the masses with ease. As a camp cook up or easy to do home cooked meal. This delicious meal is sure to get you on the good side of the crowd. Enjoy!!
    Welcome to Adventuring Pals. Our aim is to provide with you with loads of information about our travels and experiences so that you can better plan your very own epic adventures.
    We are a family with two young boys and we have been working and traveling around Australia since March of 2019.
    We left our home in Hervey Bay Queensland and have been lucky enough to live in some amazing locations including Cape York, Torres Strait, Far North Queensland, South East Queensland and Tasmania, and we are still going with no end date in sight.
    We are usually towing our Jayco Expanda caravan behind our Mitsubishi Triton and that is now our home.
    We share with you all the ups and down about our life on the road as a family with young children. We show you where to go, how to get there, what to do there and because we usually spend months at the places we go, we can give you almost a locals point of view.

    G'day Elvin and Esh, just came across your vlog during the big wet we're all having now along the Aus east coast. And a spicy Fiji Pulao would definitely go down well right now ! Although no offence to your Dads, but I prefer the Fiji Muslim weddings style Pulao, sticky with a lot of ghee. I use the Syd brand 'Pacific Premium' pulao mix when I cook at home, but could never get it the same as the wedding ones. Pulao has almost become a staple dish here whenever there's a dinner gathering of whatever Fijian ethnicity. Also the 'Pacific Premium' brand of curry powders etc have become very popular even amongst the sub-continental Indians and the diaspora. There's also a Sri Lankan spices shop that provides a service of grinding up your own dried spices with a Chakhi while you wait. Kava also definitely goes well with Pulao. Although I'm yet to come across a subcontinental Indian or from the diaspora that enjoys Kava at a Fijian dinner party, I'm sure there's some out there.
    Now for the real reason for my commenting, I'm green with envy of your caravanning around Aus. The Mrs and i had plans to sell up and do the Van life around Aus as well but the fkn Pandemic disrupted it all. Anyway, still on the cards as we've been avid campers, multi-day bushwalkers/hikers as well. But we've mostly done NSW & Vic. It's great that you guys did it b4 the Pandemic. Jaiden and Jordan would have had the experience of a lifetime. Good on you guys for taking that leap of faith to do it, I'm sure you guys had your fair share of naysayers. It'll be something that they'll be telling their grandkids about.
    I would definitely be referring to your vlogs for places of interest etc when I actually get going. . .
    All the very best to you guys and the family and a massive Vinaka Vaka Levu for all the great vlogs. 👍🏾

    • @AdventuringPals
      @AdventuringPals  Před 2 lety

      Thanks mate. Much appreciate the comment. Hope you guys are safe where you are. I’ve never had a Muslim Palau, not that I can remember anyway, but I’m keen to try if I ever get a chance.
      It’s so good that we have such a great range of food and spice choices from all over the world. Much different to when we first moved over here.
      As for the van life, I hope you can make it happen. It’s the best thing we have done with our family so far in life. No regress at all except maybe we should keep going lol.

    I’m from Samoa and married to a Fijian Muslim. Living in NZ and I really do love learning how to cook each and every Indian food at Fiji style. But I have one question please. Did your dad add any yellow curry powder into it or not please? Because I am going to try his recipe for sure 😊 Did he use only masala or both masala and the yellow curry powder please? If you don’t mind 😊

    • @AdventuringPals
      @AdventuringPals  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi. Sorry for the delayed reply. He used pre made Pulao masala. I’m not sure if it has the yellow curry powder mixed in already as different suppliers have their own mixes. But he didn’t add any additional yellow masala to it himself.
      I hope this helps. Good luck trying it out. Please let us know how it turned out.

      Great Video!, fyi the masala from the video didn't have any yellow masala(which is masala minus turmeric powder). Good thing is besides the look of the dish there is not much difference in taste. Good luck!

      Hi mate. Thanks for asking the question. We usually put in equal parts meat and rice measured out of a bowl. So for 4 cups of meat we put in 4 cups of rice. You can add more rice to feed more people if needed. Hope this helps.

    Why do you have kitchen outside your homes in Fiji?

    • @AdventuringPals

      Because we use wood fire stoves a lot and it also prevents from smelling out the house. But this is in Australia and we like cooking outside when the weather is good.
