    I have not cruised yet on Saga, but I'm looking forward to booking a future cruise, especially since they offer a large number of solo cabins. I'm recently widowed 😢, and my husband and I loved to cruise, and that is something I would not want to give up. The Saga ships sound and look very much like the Viking ships, which was our favorite cruise line. I'm surprised you didn't mention, as a reason passengers keep going back to Saga cruises, the *all-inclusive* fare, which is a *huge* advantage over other cruise lines that "nickel & dime" you to oblivion. (Obviously, that is an American term, as I'm an American). Viking fares are also all-inclusive, which was attractive to us, but it sounds like Saga has an even better all-inclusive program. Thank you for your reviews, I enjoy them very much!

      You will have a great time. They do a great “get to know other solo travellers” programme so that you can, if you wish, meet and link up with others. But everyone on board is so friendly and interested in having a good time that no one is left out. Note: their group visa policy only works for GB passport holders so you will need to speak to their booking team to sort out any visas you need for shore excursions.

    The experience with Saga is peerless, I’ve never cruised with any better cruise line! Everything about the experience is wonderful! There is just one very big downside, now even more iniquitous since they have dedicated single cabins! The price charged for solo travellers is monstrous when you compare to fares charged for couples!

    • @PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel
      @PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel  Před 3 lety

      Agree we have just attended the naming ceremony and had a tour of the Spirit of Adventure and the she is stunning. We used the chauffeur service too which was excellent. Our video review of our experience will be out tomorrow. We are booked on the Spirit of Adventure in November. It is wrong that solo passengers have to pay such a significant amount more, must be very frustrating!

  • @davidcurrer
    @davidcurrer Před rokem +2

    Very interesting comments, but I'm surprised that you're impressed by the size of the solo cabins. I've just booked my first Saga cruise, and was disappointed that the only singles left are 'standard', which are described as being 185 sq ft in size - smaller than Saga's standard twin/double cabins. My previous Celebrity cruises have been in Concierge-class balcony cabins, which are described as being between 225 and 240 sq ft. My Saga booking is also considerably more expensive than my Celebrity cruises, even allowing for the inclusions that Saga provides, and the fact that I was occupying a twin/double cabin on my own with Celebrity. I will be interested to see if the Saga experience neverthless compensates for this higher cost. I obviously hope that it does!

    Hello, we went on a Saga Cruise last year and unfortunately we won’t be going on another. The ship was beautiful, the food was stunning, cabin was beautiful, staff extremely accommodating but the entertainment was not good, there was a sedate feeling on the ship and in some of the bars we waited ages to be served and we weren’t allowed to go to the bar. Agree the almost free transfer is very good, but the cruises are expensive and the extra cost does not match the cost of transferring yourself. We’ve been with TUI in the past, staying in a junior suite and again the ship was beautiful, food stunning, cabin beautiful, staff extremely helpful but the main thing for us is the entertainment was far superior and far more bar staff. We don’t go during school holidays so not many children on board the TUI cruise so for us it will be TUI from here on.

    I have cruised with quite a few lines and much prefer the luxury lines where they are mostly adult and the ship and the destinations are the main features. I don't pay much attention to the various loyalty programs even though we have standing with Cunard, Princess, Viking and Celebrity. I pick our cruises based on places that I want to visit and ships that look interesting and are less than a 1000 passengers.

      Hi Lou, thanks for stopping by and commenting. I think the more you cruise the destination does become the driving force. But equally, if you have mobility issues, you are helped every step of the way so you can get maximum enjoyment.

    We thought when we became gold members we were in but found our loyalty did not count when we had to cancel our cruise just prior to covid lockdown. Our gas boiler decided to breakdown just as we were due to pay the balance of our forthcoming cruise, did we want 15 years hot water and heat or a fortnights cruise, the brochure said as gold members we could cancel and have our money back. So we cancelled and waited for our refund. Nothing. We got in contact and we’re told oh no you lose your deposit, over £800 a months pension. Sorry Saga you are losing more than that, we have finished cruising with you at least.

    We usually cruise on Princess or Celebrity and do like them, we are the Top Elite level with Princess. We are Canadian and ex Brits, Saga sounds great, but we do not like the sound of the formal wear at night. As we would be flying all the way from Vancouver, 1 suitcase is just not enough for all that clobber when we go to Europe for a month, what with visiting relatives while there too. Do they only have set dining times? we like the Any Time dining usually, one reason being that as you sit with different folk every night, no one knows that you might be wearing the same outfit on a few nights, plus we do not like being locked into a set time.
    However we do like the sound of the tips, drinks as of 2020, and wifi being included. Plus Saga having small ships of 999 pax.

    • @PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel
      @PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel  Před 4 lety

      That is a pain with the luggage allowance! Saga have any time dining and the food was amazing. The speciality restaurants are all included but you do have to book those. We were very impressed with Saga and this ship was beautiful and loved that it only catered for 999 passengers. Have you lived in Vancouver for many years?

      Dress is smart casual throughout the cruise except for specific formal events (we had two nights on our most recent 16 night cruise). So you only need one smart outfit. And men can get away with one jacket and tie (or bow tie to dress up) for the entire trip. Avoid jeans / denim. And no shorts in dining areas (but casual trousers are fine). No need for any toiletries (huge bottles provided). They also provide binoculars, hairdryer etc in each cabin. For a two week cruise: underwear, pyjamas, 2 casual trousers, maybe 5 or 6 tops/shirts, 1 smart outfit, walking shoes, swimwear, sweater and coat. There is an on board self-service laundry if you really need it.
