Place a 4.7K ohm 2W Resistor in the swirl connector plug, across position 2 and 3.
This will trick the ecu and stop the limp mode.
Here in the UK it still passes the emissions test, it may not be the same in the US.
The OM642 is a super engine.
I believe it is the Nag1 transmission on the van, and again it’s excellent.
I know of some Mercedes and Chrysler vehicles with over 300k miles and no issues.

have you tried to trick a computer by doing this resistor trick? if so on what year and make?

Been used on vehicles dated from 2005-2010, but any year will be fine if it’s an om642

but don't forget, that can the guy took camping and either got stuck and spun the tires or they were trying to use it to pull vehicles or tug out of mud to burn the trans like that. Hope you do not associate with them anymore. They will abuse your goodwill.

OM642 at least doesn't fail catastrophically like BMW N57 and many other modern engines with failed crank or rod bearings....

That's a lot of risk to take on for what returns you might get from it. I think stay with your S class as the only Mercedes in the family for now. With fair market for this 07 Dodge 2500, it's about 6k and that's not considering the windshield and major EGR replacement. If I'd buy, I'd only deduct the cost of the repairs first. And that's of the set if tires are still usable.

After replacing the intake, replace the steel pipe between the EGR valve and intake with block off plates. You might get a CEL for low EGR flow but no limp home mode and the new intake stays clean.

Just remove them and by pass with a resistor.
